A shape shifting horror fantasy story set in medieval times told in first person POV by Ilenio, a young man from a small village who is chosen by the high lord of the area, Lord Brahany, to become his personal assistant in solving a series of horrible murders. The choice is hardly casual because Ilenio is a Visionario, one who has visions about the killer and his slaughters, and the Lord Brahany needs a person of his kind in order to change into an eagle and fight the evil darkening his land. And their connection must be as intimate as it can get to trigger the transformation.

What's particular about this book is that it isn't a classical shape shifter genre. The story takes place in a medieval setting and the nobleman that turns into an eagle, can do so only because he has a special connection with a young peasant. Without him, there would be no shape shifting at all and since the story is in first personPOV, it is mostly focused on the emotions and feelings of this special connection, rather than mere action.

Sheepherder Ilenio has visions about a string of bloody murders that has been terrorising his village. After an encounter with Lord Brahany in the forest, Ilenio is ordered to go to the castle. What he doesn't realise at first is that his parents have sold him into slavery. It turns out his visions are magic, and Lord Brahany needs to have sex with Ilenio to activate his shape shifting magic and change into a crime-fighting raptor and protect the village.

An interesting premise but I would have liked much more world building and more details!
The book was too short and rushed for me to really connect with the characters or understand what was happening.

The force of Lord Brahany’s will is more than an innocent young man can deny, but what seems at first to be merely a master/slave relationship, morphs into something much more powerful as their story progresses. Ilenio’s character may be young and naïve, but stupid he is not, and he never lets his master forget it. The balance of power may always fall more towards Lord Brahany, but Ilenio is the key to everything. The ferocity with which Lord Brahany and Ilenio engage each other is a complete sensual and sexual explosion for the senses.
