هذيان مريض يدعي الفقر. حريص على المال أكثر من حرصه على صحته و متعته و احترام الناس له. و يا ليته يحسن إنفاق هذا المال فيما يفيد أو حتى فيما لا يفيد بل يكنزه و يدخره قرشا على قرش دون أي فائدة له أو لغيره. و في أحد الأيام يرى احتراق منزل بمن فيه و ما فيه فيرى حقيقة غده متمثلة أمام عينه فيصيبه الرعب و الحمى حتى يموت على فراشه و فوق نقوده التي لم تغن عنه شيئا.
دستوبيا دستيوفسكية بأفكار تبدو تشيخوفية و لكن بلغة ركيكة لا تناسب أيٍ منهما و لا تتناسب مع ترجمة العبقري سامي الدروبي.

- انتهت القصة ويخطر ببالي المقولة الشهيرة "الإسكندر ذو القرنين، مات خال اليدين" مع رؤية يديه تخرجان من تابوته!

- دوستوفسكي يأخذ انساناً فقيراً بالمظهر، يعيش حالة من البخل الرهيب، يخترع وهماً ليصرف عليه (زوجة اخيه)، يصاب بالمرض اثر مزحة (فقدانه للعمل) ويموت فوق "كنز" كان يكفيه ان يعيش حياة كريمة وكل ذلك بسبب الخوف من الفقر!! يحضرني قول محمود درويش ايضاً "وانت في طريقك للحياة لا تنسى ان تعيش".

- الربط النفسي بين الفقر والخوف منه كان ممتازاً رغم رتابة القصة وتكرارها.

Mr. Prokharchin is a miserly man, a misanthrope if you will. Ostracized from society by his own miserable attitude, he is not someone to envy. When he dies, those living in his board house discover that he was actually very wealthy, and that his own selfishness for keeping his fortune to himself and safe, drove him to live the life of a beggar. A similar character to that of Dickens’s Ebenezer Scrooge, but without any form of positive redemption at the end.

This is a short piece, but one worthy of being read. Four stars.

قصة قصيرة من أوائل أعمال فيسكي، قال سامي الدروبي أن دوستويفكسي كتب في مقال له بأنه استوحى شخصية "الفقير الغني" من خبر عن رجل فقير اكتُشِف بأنه يملك الكثير من المال. وذكر سامي الدروبي أيضًا أن ترجمة كلمة "بروخارتشين" من الفعل: ينفق، فكانت هنا بمعنى المنفق.. وهذه الصفة تتعارض مع حال بطل الرواية البخيل.

في هذه القصة يرسم فيسكي شخصية البخيل بامتياز كعادته، فالبطل هنا هو شخص يعيش فقيرًا طوال عمره، ملابسه رثة، يعيش في ركن في بيت كالفقراء، ويدعي دائمًا بأنه فقير.. يمرض في النهاية ويستبد به الفزع بسبب مزحة قالها أحدهم عن أنه قد يفقد عمله، ويظل يهذي إلى أن يصبح كالأموات ويُكتشف في النهاية بأنه غني، فقط كانت النهاية غامضة بعض الشيء. فيسكي كالعادة يتعمق في النفس البشرية لوصف حالة شخصية الفقير الغني أو البخيل.

من الملاحظ انتقاده للرأسمالية بشكل خفي ثم لعنها بشكل واضح، وقد فعل هذا مسبقًا في روايته القصيرة قلب ضعيف، هذا لأنه كان شيوعيًا في هذا الوقت وسيُسجن لاحقًا لهذا السبب.

Ogni tanto ci riprovo, ma con risultati fallimentari: sembriamo quasi due amanti che non vogliano rassegnarsi al fatto che tra loro non funzioni.

جنس تصویری که داستایفسکی از مرگ نشون می‌ده با تولستوی فرق داره. انگار... داستایفسکی مرگ رو به سخره می‌گیره.

The narrator of this story tells us that this is a "biography" of Mr. Prohartchin....it felt more like a backstory of a short time in his life leading up to his death (we know from the beginning few pages that he dies). He was an elderly man who lived in a flat owned by a lady who tended to favor him and didn't charge him as much for his meals. He was of a very humble grade in the service and was paid as little as his grade was. Mr. Prohartchin owned a box with a German lock on it and he always kept the key on his person. He seemed very poor. He goes missing for a few days and the other tenants of the flat go looking for him and we hear a tale of what happened...or was it Mr. Proharchin's demented memory.

This story was fine, but what kept me reading was wanting to know what was in the box just like the others in the house.

The moral of the story: "The broken screen seemed like an emblem of the fact that death tears away the veil from all our secrets, our shifty dodges and intrigues."

إن بقية باقية من شمعة كانت تضيء في تلك اللحظة لوحة شائقة جدا لمن يلاحظها.. عشرة نزلاء متحلقين حول السرير، بملابس غريبة، مشعثي الشعر، لم يحلقوا لحاهم، ولا غسلوا وجوههم، قد تورمت أجفانهم من النعاس. بعضهم شاحب، وبعضهم يتصبب منه العرق.. بعضهم يرتجف محموما، وبعضهم يقشعر جسمه من البرد. والصندوق المبتور بطنه يكشف عن أحشائه التي تبعث على الاشمئزاز. والغطاء والمخدة ملقيان على الأرض تحت الحشو الذي ينزع من الفراش. وهذه كومة من قطع فضية ونقود أخرى تري متلألئة على الم��ضدة العرجاء.

هذا المشهد هو روح القصة في نظري.
قصة عادية تخلو من العمق..

Opinió: Fa un parell d'anys vaig llegir 'Les nits blanques' i no em va fer massa el pes, així que vaig decidir deixar de banda aquest autor. Anys més tard he descobert que aquesta obra no s'assembla gens a la resta de la seva literatura, així que li he volgut donar una altra oportunitat i ho he fet llegint aquest menut que aplega dos relats breus.

El primer que trobam és el que dona nom al llibre, és a dir, 'El senyor Prokhartxin'. Aquest relat el protagonitza un humil funcionari que viu llogant un pis en l'establiment de la Sra. Ustínia Fiódorovna. Allà s'hi allotgen una dotzena de llogaters que viuen en plena harmonia, però per algun motiu no consideren el Sr. Prokhartxin un més d'ells. Un dia, però, decideixen fer-li la guitza, bàsicament li explicaran coses falses i del tot inversemblants i una d'aquestes coses acaba trasbalsant profundament al protagonista.

L'altre relat és 'La centenària' i és protagonitzat per una velleta de 104 anys que va a morir entre l'escalf de la seva gent. Aquest, a diferència de l'altre, té un to més tendre.

Ambdues històries tenen com a eix central la mort, però en elles també hi trobareu un toc irònic i de crítica social.

I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M GONNA SAY THIS!
I always enjoy Dostoyevsky. But, this time, I DIDN’T enjoy reading this story! It seems really obvious that he wrote it when he was very young. It lacks the DOSTOYEVSKY TASTE.
I wouldn’t recommend it to any of my friends.

Pues si, en esta historia veo el despliegue del trabajo de un personaje que hace Dostoyevski. Un personaje silencioso, que no pareciese dar mucha información de sí mismo. Y que si embargo, Dostoyevski lo describe, reflexiona casi con cariño sobre él. Lo talla y pule minuciosamente, hasta hacerlo imborrable de mi menoria.

A short story exploring the psychology of greed.

The previous short story that I read (White Nights) I didn’t love very much, but it kind of stayed with me, so I really wanted to give Dostoyevsky another chance - and he’s starting to grow on me. I liked this one a lot better.

The motif of the miser is not something that I find very relatable or interesting, and I had already encountered it in the works of Molière and Jovan Sterija Popović (was Dostoyevsky drawing inspiration from these? I’m not sure), hence 4 stars. However, I find his description of insanity and frenzy extremely exciting. I felt a strong sense of empathy for his unfortunate protagonist and was very much invested in the story. I am always amused by good depictions of mental illness in literature, and this one was top-tier. I especially enjoyed the symbolism of the burning fire and the part where the fever spread to Mr. Prokharchin’s neighbors as they became greedy for his secret fortune.

The obvious moral of the story is that death reveals all secrets, but I would argue that there is a lot more to it - he’s covering universal human experiences, psychological trauma, a sense of fear and guilt, and even a critique of the society that births this type of individual. It was my first read of 2025, and it was great. I plan to read more of Dostoyevsky’s work very soon.

This grotesque little story owes much to E. T. A. Hoffman and Gogol and does not even begin to suggest the mature Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Yet it is fun to read about this wizened little old man who rents a corner of a room in a Petersburg boardinghouse and is ignored for years until ... until the establishment begins to fill up with younger bachelors who work in the chancelleries and who begin to taunt Semyon Ivanovich Prokharchin beyond his ability to respond.

He runs off for a few days, is seen with low company, returns in the middle of the night -- and the "persecution" begins to ramp up even more. Finally, a drunk slashes his mattress, which scares Mr. P. out of his life. He dies, and the mattress is found stuffed with 2,500 rubles -- not a fortune, but a tidy some nonetheless.

I enjoyed reading this little sketch, but have no doubt that it confused Dostoyevsky's contemporaries. Still, if you idolize him as much as I do, I suggest you give Mr. Prokharchin a try.

An impoverished and combatant old man who hides a secret, lives in a shared accommodation with other tenants that he constantly quarrels with.

Not the most riveting story but the plot is elevated by an interesting and unusual protagonist. This was Dostoyevsky’s first published short story.

Zoti Proharçin - tregimi i dytë që sapo përfundova. Ky zotëri është qiraxhiu më i varfër i qiramarrëses Ustinia Fedorovës, njëkohësisht dhe më i hershmi.
Çdo vakt ai s’e hante të plotë. Çdo çaj s’e pinte siç i ka hije. Rrogën e kishte të pakët me të mezi mbahej ndihmonte dhe kunatën.

Personazhi ynë në dhomën e tij s’linte askënd të vinte këmbën. Nuk miqësohej me asnjë, por pak nga pak nisi ligjërimet me miqtë e pensionit, pak nga pak dukej se po luante mendsh. Shëndetlig, vdes dhe më në fund të gjithë do kenë kënaqësinë të shikojnë ç’përmban ai sunduk që e mbante si bir të vetëm Proharçini? Mesa duket asgjë interesante. Pas gërmimit mirë e mirë zbulohet e fshehta!!! Maskarai na paska pasur plot rubla & hiqej si varfanjak!
Tregimi ishte shumë i këndshëm & kuptimplotë. Jo çdo njeri është siç hiqet. Sa njerëz dyfyryrësh takojmë në jetë? Lesson learnt ! 4.5 🌟

I don't think this needed to take the turn that it did. So many of the interactions between the other tenants and Mr Prokharchin served to demonstrate that despite his state and position in the world, Mr Prokharchin was "surprisingly" proud. I don't think this is surprising at all. The revelation that he actually had a lot of money was supposed to give clarity to this confusion about his character. Again, I didn't think there was any confusion. It actually makes perfect sense that someone so poor could also be proud. It was interesting to see (in the very last page) how people's perceptions of him changed, given the revelations. Calling him "the unconventional capitalist" was striking.

هنا تختلف نهاية الرجل فقط، ويحكي لنا دوستويفسكي عن كيف تؤدي مزحة إلى الذعر، وكيف تختلط الحقيقة بالحلم في ذهن من يخاف على ماله أكثر من حياته نفسها

نحن أمام رجل تتدهور حياته لرؤيته ما قد يؤول إليه ماله إذا وقع حريقًا مثلما حدث لبيت مجاور إليه

كيف وجدت الأوهام بيتًا مناسبًا في ذهن بطلنا؟ هنا أساس القصة بأكملها

ذكرتني النهاية بنهاية مسلسل "البخيل وأنا" للقدير فريد شوقي

يعيب الرواية فقط كثرة التكرار في أمور لا فائدة منها، ولكن هذا سمة الأدب الروسي عامة!
