Carmelo Bene, grand rcuprateur de pices dtaches, est connu pour ses rcritures de chefs d'oeuvre de la littrature dramatique. Entre 1962 et 1998, il a propos plusieurs versions du Pinocchio de Collodi, prsentes au thtre, la radio ou la tlvision. Il ne s'agit pas d'une rcriture proprement parler, mais d'un dcoupage : Carmelo Bene choisit dans le roman de Collodi une partie des dialogues et transforme certains extraits narratifs en didascalies. Ce dcoupage oriente l'interprtation du texte original, dans un sens diamtralement oppos l'image dulcore du pantin telle qu'on la connat aujourd'hui. Bene en fait une lecture qui souligne la cruaut du monde dans lequel vit Pinocchio, en particulier la duret des grandes personnes envers les enfants. "En attendant entrez messieurs et veuillez nous accorder une bnvolente indulgence pour nos erreurs involontaires."

Carmelo Pompilio Realino Antonio Bene, known as Carmelo Bene (1 September 1937 – 16 March 2002) was an Italian actor, poet, film director and screenwriter. He was one of the greatest figures in Italian avant-garde culture.

Also famous for his eccentric behaviour and for mocking the Italian theatre tradition, he took to the extreme the concept of Artaud's Theatre of Cruelty. His first work was the italian version of Caligula, requested to his friend Albert Camus in 1959. Some of his dramatic works were interrupted by police for his supposed blasphemous and outrageous contents, as his play Cristo '63 (Christ '63).

He was also a filmaker, but claimed to have little sympathy for almost all the film-making made after Buster Keaton and Sergei Eisenstein, all his movies were higly criticized by the time of their release for their unusual and cryptic mise-en-scène but gained cult following in the following years.

He often collaborated with french philosopher Gilles Deleuze, writer Pierre Klossowski, italian critic Enrico Ghezzi and many more.

Versione di Pinocchio di Carmelo Bene. Copione del suo spettacolo teatrale, ha il difetto di non accennare agli aspetti senza dialoghi che vengono messi in scena ma che, nel copione, risultano buchi nella trama, mentre interi eventi, magari citati come avvenuti, non vengono però raccontati nel loro accadere. Per un giudizio più completo sarebbe bello riuscire a vedere lo spettacolo, ma i dvd sono di difficile reperibilità. I limiti che ci sono nel copione costringono necessariamente solo a un giudizio di sufficienza.

Teatro dove le maschere-burattini-molteplicità sono protesi vocali del gioco deliriante-schizo del piccolo Pinocchio (nella versione cinematografica quasi tutti i personaggi sono doppiati esclusivamente da Bene). La dimensione dell'infanzia è trasvalutata ed è sicuramente preferibile alla monotonia Statale, storica ed anti-estetica dell'età adulta.
