This Christmas, former dancer Lindy Haggerty leaves her toe shoes behind to hit the glitzy International Ballroom Competition in Atlantic City, where it takes two to tango-but only one to kill...
Lindy and company barely have time to unpack before the backbiting begins. Dawn Gilpatrick, owner of a famous dance studio, clues Lindy in to the politics and gossip behind the scenes. Seems a rival studio owned by her ex-husband/ dance partner is trying to steal one of Dawn's top teachers, resulting in a lawsuit for breach of contract by Dawn. If that's not enough, her top couple-Shane Corbett and Katya Andrejewsky-are about to break up, courtesy of Shane, and unbeknownst to Katya.
Lindy's head is spinning more than the dancers are. Scandals and catfights are threatening to upstage the competition. Shane and Katya's sudden disappearance is the last straw for Dawn-professionally and financially. And just when things couldn't possibly get any worse, a body is discovered, washed up under the boardwalk.
Now, it's up to Lindy to take the lead in solving a Christmas mystery…before anyone else dances with death.
Shelley Freyont is the author of the Lindy Haggerty Sudoku mysteries. She attended the University of Utah majoring in philosophy and dance. Shelley Freydont has also toured as a professonal dance with Twyla Tharp Dance and Americal Ballroom theater. She has appeared and choreographed in television, film, and Brodway.
This is the 5th and last in the series. There were too many characters to keep track of. I did enjoy more about the world of ballroom dancing. I had read several other books in the series and I wanted to see how the series ended. I don’t feel the author fully addressed the ending. I had to keep reminding myself this book was written in 2003 and things were different then.
Lindy Haggerty is the rehearsal director for the Jeremy Ash Dance Company and they are set to perform in Atlantic City at the International Stars Ballroom Competition. Dawn Gilpatrick is quick to clue Lindy in on the latest gossip and politics of the dance world, including the fact that her ex-husband and ex-partner is trying to steal her best couple, Shane Corbett and Katja Abdretevsjty.
Shane is found murdered wearing an Enrico dress and Katja is missing.
In the meantime someone has broken into Enrico's booth and destroyed all his designer gowns. And if that were not enough Lindy's boyfriend Bill Brandecker, a former New York detective comes to spend a little time with her. Lindy is unsure of the relationship because she still isn't sure what the status of her marriage with Glen is. Glen has stated he is not returning to the marriage but Lindy is soooo confused.
This book is full of catfights, scandals, lovers' tiffs and twists and turns. It is labelled a cozy mystery but be forewarned the perpetrator is known about 2 minutes after the murder is discovered.
Another book that I picked up at our library's used/withdrawn book sale this fall. I've never read any of Freydont's mysteries and found this one, the fifth in the series, a pretty interesting and quick read. Set in Atlantic City, the main character, Lindy Graham, former dancer and middle-aged empty nester, is attending an International Ballroom Competition just before Christmas. "{Professional dance} was a closed, incestuous kind of world...Everyone knowing everything about each other, lots of angst and carrying on that was quickly dropped when the net scandal hit." When a popular dancer is found murdered on the oceanfront's beach, Lindy decides to do a little sleuthing herself, much to the chagrin of her current boyfriend, Bill, a former NYC detective. Freydont was a professional dancer herself at one point so the behind-the-scene details ring true.
The Jeremy Ash troupe is performing as added entertainment at a ballroom dancing competition in Atlantic City, and rehearsal directory Lindy Haggerty, whose marriage is disintegrating, has plans to meet the man who loves her, former policeman Bill. The dramatic emotions that run high at the competition end with a body lying on the sands--and Lindy can't resist an appeal from a friend to help her friend, despite Bill's disapproval.
When a book refers to Asians as Orientals, it already gets some points knocked off because really? in this century, lets be a little more in tune with appropriateness (is that a word)?! Very loose plot-and annoying characters. Dear editors-the word is spelled MANNEQUIN. Every time I read the horrible misspelling, I shuddered. Pass on it-I gave it 2 stars simply for referring to the Jersey Shore.
