This handbook offers the techniques and tactics that make Army Rangers the best soldiers in the world. These highly-trained, easily-deployable, and widely-skilled infantrymen specialize in airborne assault, raids, recovery of personnel and equipment, and airfield seizure, among other difficult and dangerous missions. Drawing from over two centuries of bloody lessons learned in special operations combat, this guide gives modern soldiers the best advice possible. In straightforward language and a no-frills style, it covers deception, stealth, communications, escape and evasion, ambush operations, perimeter defense, counterintelligence, and much more. Handy and concise, this manual was designed so Rangers could easily carry it into the field. Now it is the ultimate resource for anyone who wants to know how Rangers think and work.
This book is probably one of the most beneficial books, Anyone looking to be a ranger in the future, or at least you know minimal military for any reason should read this book, this is one of the greatest books I’ve ever read regarding military strategies, this book is a five out of five, it really just goes in depth
You can nearly feel the vibration of earth as the enemy slowly approaches in the U.S. Army’s Ranger Handbook, the guide about life as an Army soldier, a person of strong will and character that has been built strongly over the course of many years. The Army Ranger thinks up many witty systems of survival – including dangerous tactics that require help from other Armed Forces. Rangers live their lives on the edge, separate from the sheep in the herd. Then swiftly a Ranger of different nationality joins forces. The two Rangers survive together, combining ideas that hadn’t occurred to one another, knowledge that never transpired in each other’s mind. Then, abruptly the fellow Ranger disappeared and the Army Ranger felt solitude, he was alone. The feeling of isolation was not there until he was introduced to, and then endured with his fellow Ranger. The Army Ranger is shouldered with a mission, a mission to protect the citizens that have been born to freedom, citizens that he/she knows little about. Modeled after Coleslaw.
Special Operations command, may it be Rangers, SF, etc... it is a young man's game. The human body can only take so many beatings, and being in big Army wears on you too over time. Also, when your younger you are less likely to be in a serious relationship and/or have children. These are both very huge factors towards living this type of life style.
I think most young men dream of pursuing something like this. If you really want to make this a priority and make this happen, this book would a great place to start.
The illustrations and texts are poorly printed with ink that fades! The publisher makes no attempts in enlarging the illustrations and texts to make full use of a page as there are lots of empty spaces. What you get is a miniaturized picture frame format of the content.
I can't believe I wasted my money on this illegible crap.
Generally very good, but def a textbook. Vital to temper this with a course / someone who knows what they are talking about, about what doctrine is practical and what is impractical. Hyperbolic example, one of our Ranger instructors mentioned a morose but humorous tidbit - "Yea that stuff they say in the handbook about flipping a suspect over on his back - never happened. We just used meathooks."
I'd like to see this updated with some pictures or improved illustrations. Otherwise, this is the bible for small unit tactics. This book is a must read for any soon-to-be platoon leader or squad leader/PSG in any branch of the Army.
