Farrendel would do anything to keep from killing again...even marry a human princess.

Farrendel Laesornysh, the younger elf prince of Tarenhiel, has become the elves' foremost warrior, thanks to his deadly magic. He is no stranger to death. But when the humans propose a marriage alliance during a diplomatic meeting, he is desperate enough to avoid more killing to agree. Even if an elf should never trust a human bargain.

The human princess is probably a spy. Or an assassin sent to kill him on his wedding night. Yet if he can make this marriage work, as his grandmother seems to think, it might be the first breath of hope Farrendel has had in over a decade.

Elf Prince gives Farrendel's perspective on the events of Fierce Heart (Book 1).

Born and raised in Michigan, I enjoy traveling to new adventures that inspire my writing.

Growing up, I read just about every book I could get my hands on, especially fantasy. I currently write YA fantasy and romantic fantasy filled with lots of humor, spunky and tough leading ladies, and broken heroes.

When I am not writing, I enjoy spending time with my chocolate lab, Miss Kisses.

This book is free on Amazon (Canada) today (11/29/2024). 🙂

It is nice to see the beginning of this adventure from Farrendel's perspective, it helps us understand some of his decisions and reactions toward his new bride, but besides that, it did not add anything of consequence to the story.

It is a nice and easy read though and I would recommend it if you liked the first book, especially since it is free when you register for the author's newsletter.

Farrendel is such a small, anxious bean and I love and relate to him so much. 🥰🥰

Since this is just Fierce Heart but entirely from Farrendel’s POV, I decided to read it before War Bound which was good but I also don’t think I’d do it again or recommend reading them right after each other since it’s the same plot except for several extra and new scenes (which I LOVED!) which had me kind of glossing over several of the repeat scenes while also loving them, if that makes any sense.

I feel much closer to Farrendel as a whole after reading this and understand him a lot more, though sometimes his too relatable anxiety got to me, lol. Loved seeing Essie through his eyes; he’s so soft and sweet for her and I am here for it. 🥰😍🥰😍

Loved this, just won’t be reading it right after Fierce Heart again.

Did I read this right after book 1 because I wanted to read Farrendel's POV since I am a sucker for the male romantic interest's perspective, why yes yes I did and I loved it!

It is a tad repetitive because it is following the same events of Book 1 BUT it still felt like its own story because we get more scenes with the couple in addition to Farrendel solo scenes.

I understand Farrendel and love this couple even more now!

Content: PTSD (including nightmares), violence (mild), magic, magical abilities, magical beings

Christian faith rating: 0/3 (same as book 1)

Can I get all of Fierce Heart from Farrendel's perspective? PLEASE?

ASK and the Universe will answer apparently!!!! Shout out to Tara Grayce for fulfilling my wish to read all of Fierce Heart from Farrendel's perspective. One thing I really liked about this book is it didn't include scenes only from Fierce Heart. We got to see other bonus content from Farrendel's perspective that Essie never even talked about in Fierce Heart.

Also now that I've read the full Elf Prince, I have the urge to re-read Fierce Heart. I should also at some point read the whole series but you know....

A little note, since the world delivered on my last request. What I need next is for Fierce Heart and Elf Prince to be published together so that you can read their POV's side by side in the same book instead of having to switch between the two books... Just shouting it out into the void, in case some benevolent being wants to make it happen for me.

Re-reading this book only makes it better.

Y'all. I was going to start book 2 right away, until I saw book 1.5, which is from Farrendel's POV from book 1. I didn't think I could love Essie and Farrendel more until I say everything from his perspective. I love them even more now!

I loved seeing important scenes in book 1 from his POV but I also loved the added scenes in this book. These two seriously are one of the best couples I've read all year. They're making the most out of what could be an awkward position and fell in love during the process.

All I can say is...

*dreamy sigh*

I LOVE THESE TWO!

Now it's time to dive into book 2! I can not WAIT to see what happens next! 😍

It was nice, getting Farrendel's perspective on the first few chapters and learning a little bit more (yes, I was curious about what his family was saying, and Essie didn't understand). Poor Farrendel. This story is literally an introvert marrying an extrovert who talks a lot, Farrendel is confused and kind of scared by the way Essie talks. In a cute way.

"Whatever his weaknesses, he would love meaningfully, and not cheaply." - Elf Prince by Tara Grayce

"Elf Prince" by Tara Grayce is a sequel to "Fierce Heart" (the first book in the "Elven Alliance" series) and let me just say, wow.
This sweet novel was amazing. Getting to see things from Farrendel's POV was definitely intriguing. Seeing his character development is nothing short of incredible. Grayce has breathtaking writing and I can't rant about it enough, but I digress.
I absolutely loved reading Farrendel's side of the story and revisiting the wonderful world of the "Elven Alliance" series.

I loved "Elf Prince" and highly recommend this series!

P.S. Now I'm practically bursting at the seams to get my hands on book six!

Ah, my beloved, traumatized, protective, selfless, courageous Farrendel…he’s just such a wonderful character, and it’s such a treat to read his perspective on events, getting a fresh spin on Fierce Heart. And my darling Essie! She’s certainly one of my absolutely favorite female characters, and she’s certainly one of my role models. Plus the romance is so LOVELY and RESPECTFUL and HEALTHY, and I love it so much!

This is such a wonderful series in nearly every way.

🗡️ content: violence. Farrendel is an illegitimate child of the elven king. Some mildly descriptive kissing. 🗡️

I probably skimmed more than I read. I read this book after book 1 because I wanted to get Farrendel’s POV but I didn’t care to relive the entire story again. It would have been nice to have this POV either within book 1 or as book 2, telling a different part of the story. It would’ve even been great as a novella highlighting select scenes. I want to continue with this series but I likely won’t finish as it feels quite slow and a little repetitive.

This was absolutely lovely! I adored reading Farrendel's point of view of the first book! And Tara did such a great job on it too, where there were new scenes and the tone was purely Farrendel. The sweet little elf cinnamon roll just makes me smile and I loved seeing his personality shine in this.

Seeing how he fell for Essie, how he felt about the war, and why he made all the decisions he did was sweet. He's one of those characters that I connected to deeply. His loyalty and love for his family, his shattered self worth, and his gentle heart as he fords his way back from the darkness of what he's gone through is inspiring and amazing. He's not the typical character you see as a warrior protagonist. He's got social anxiety, and is honestly a bit of a nerd, as well as has a mischievous streak with those he's comfortable with. Yet he fights hard and doesn't give up and nearly loses himself in the process. I love Farrendel's story though the whole series. (In case you can't tell he's my favorite).

So glad Tara wrote this fun novel from his perspective.

Content:
Language: None.
Violence: A fair bit, as this is written during war time and there's a fair amount of blood. I'd say on the lower end of moderate on violence. Poor Farrendel has to fight and kill a lot of Trolls.
Sensuality: Mild. Kisses, and a few moments of Farrendel being very aware of his wife, but nothing happens.

Super interesting to read right after reading Fierce Heart (book 1 in the Elven Alliance series)! This book covers the same story as Fierce Heart, but from Farrendel’s perspective. It didn’t hold the same thrill as the first book because I already knew what was going to happen, but I still enjoyed it!

Revisit the story of Fierce Heart from Farrendel's perspective.

Farrendel Laesornysh is only 19-years-old (if you convert elf years to human years), but he's already a shattered shell of a person. His family's love, despite it's fierceness, could not protect him from the isolation and scorn of being an illegitimate child. Their love could not shield him from entering battle far too young, his powerful and deadly magic needed to protect their people. Their love could not protect him from capture and torture and the soul-rending grief of his father's death. Their love and concern does not protect him from the way he is crushed everytime he is called upon to kill. All he can do is cling to the shreds of his sanity and wait for the early death he's sure awaits him.

When he accompanies his brother to a meeting with the human king of Escarland, he desperately hopes they'll be able to strike a deal that will postpone another war. He needs an alternative to more killing. When that alternative presents itself in the form of a marriage of alliance, Farrendel agrees to marry a human he's never met. It means sacrificing his freedom to escape to solitute, but if it means less killing, it will be worth it.

Commentary
This is the kind of fan-service book the readers needs more of. After coming to love Farrendel through the events of Fierce Heart and subsequent books in the series, it was fun to revisit the original story and fill-in his internal dialogue (most of which consists of a bewildered, panicked effort to force words out of his mouth with varying levels of minimal success).

2025 reread:

Still a very sweet story. I read it a bit closer to reading Fierce Heart this time, so it did feel a touch repetitive, but also made the contrast on impressions vs reality stand out more.

Original review:

While this does necessarily cover a lot of the same events of the first book, I thought the author did a good job of making this its own story. Because it focused on Farrendel's internal character arc instead of Essie's experiences, it felt complete instead of just being the 'missing chapters' as some alternate viewpoints end up being.

It was still the same as the first book in all the right ways though: good, clean, mushy romance, that handles some darker mental health issues with a sweet touch.

I'll be honest, I do sometimes like an angsty hero who is genuinely angsty, but that doesn't keep from also loving Farrendel for somehow being a complete cinnamon roll inside an angsty hero shell.

This has roughly the same (minor) content concerns as the first book: vivid portrayal of PTSD and mental health struggles, references to kissing with heavily veiled references to thoughts of more intimacy, and some violence/war/danger/blood scenes.

3.5 ⭐
Book #1.5

☑️ Farrendel's POV for the time frame of the 1st book

☑️ Different races: humans, elves
🆗 Enemy races
☑️🆗 Enemies to lovers (kinda, more enemy races to arranged marriage)
🆗 Arranged marriage (quite suddenly)
🆗 Happy, positive FMC
🆗 Scarred, tortured, silent, strong warrior MMC
☑️ Grumpy-Sunshine trope (kinda, more like tortured&silent-sunshine trope)
🆗⬇️ Magic/Powers
🔥 No smut

This is Farrendel's POV of what happened during the 1st book.

There are several new scenes.

The author did take care into not just rewriting everything of book 1 in Farrendel's POV.
Most of it are new scenes and others do share a light on what was going on inside his mind during all his silence.

It shows that Farrendel wasn't all that cold, hard fronted elf that was shown during book 1. He was actually quite a tortured men, dealing with anxiety, deep hurt and awkwardness but also quite caring and concerned.

A lovely story, very in the style of grumpy-sunshine trope.

***

As always my respect to the author.
No hate nor hurt intended with this review.

Zanemarite junakinju, ostale likove, radnju, bla bla.

Fierce Heart by Tara Grayce (Elf Prince by Tara Grayce)
I am reviewing Elf Prince at the same time because it is literally the same as Fierce Heart just from Farrendel's POV

Rating
🧝‍♂️🧝‍♂️🧝‍♂️🧝‍♂️🧝‍♂️

Thoughts:
I absolutely love the characters. And the POV character ... I love how she is strong and independent but not one of those characters who is super annoying. The tension between the POV character and the Elves is so well written. And the mystery of what exactly happened in the rescue is also really drawing.
Plus of course the shampoo. it's such a recurring subject but so well done that it's like a note saying everything is fine now.
I also like the perspective it takes on love... how it's not just a feeling but that it is a choice to take each day.

Favorite
character: Both Essie and Farrendel
part: When they wake up after nearly dying.
quote: “Love is a choice, and it’s one we have been making all along. That probably counts a whole lot more for a heart-bond than kissing does, even if I’m discovering I really like kissing you.”

Synopsis:
Essie would do anything for her kingdom…even marry an elf prince she just met that morning.

The human kingdom of Escarland and the elven kingdom of Tarenhiel have existed in an uneasy peace after their last wars ended with both kings dead. As tensions rise once again, desperate diplomacy might be the only way to avert war. If only negotiations between elves and humans were that simple.

When a diplomatic meeting goes horribly wrong, Essie, a human princess, finds herself married to the elf prince and warrior Laesornysh. Fitting in to the serene, quiet elf culture might be a little difficult for this talkative princess, but she’s determined to make it work.

With impending war and tenuous alliances, it will be up to Essie to unite her two peoples. And maybe get her hands on elven conditioner while she’s at it.

I didn't think it was possible for me to love Farrendel even more than I already did. Clearly, I was wrong, as I've just spent the last 24 hours since I finished this book in total fangirl-mode. XP

I guess we'll start small. Worldbuilding. It's not the most creative worldbuilding in the... uh... world. The elves are essentially magical versions of Tolkien's Elves. I haven't played D&D, but from what I know of its fantasy races, the world of Elven Alliance is fairly similar. That being said... I want to go there. I need to go there. Anyone know of a magic portal to Tarenhiel? XD
And even though we don't see much of any culture except for the elves', the few glimpses of the humans' Escarland and the trolls' raiding bands are more than enough to see that the other races and kingdoms have their own cultures and honor systems. Despite its similarity to many other fantasy worlds, this is still a clearly well-thought-out setting, and I desperately need to see MORE of this world. XD Farrendel's POV made me fall even more head-over-heels for it than Essie's did in Fierce Heart.

Farrendel. I have no words.
He's adorable. He's awkward. He's kickbutt. And he's oh-so-traumatized. That trauma colors everything he says and does... and yet he never falls into the trap of Katniss Everdeen's Depressing Trauma. There's still lightheartedness and hope (primarily from Essie), in spite of Farrendel's brokenness. He just needs a great big hug. Actually, not just one. A few dozen or more. XDD

This book adds an entirely new tint to the events and scenes of Fierce Heart, and it's definitely worth reading.

Elf Prince by Tara Grayce: Clean Fantasy Romance. Arranged Marriage. Slow Burn. Character Development. Single POV. Political Intrigue. Satisfying injury tropes. Drama. Allies. Companionship. Male POV.

This book is the events of Fierce Heart written from Farrendel's perspective. You have extra scenes Essie wasn't witness to, and you get a more in-depth look into Farrendel's thoughts, dreams, wants and insecurities. I really enjoyed it. You do learn about what the trolls did to Farrendel while he was captured, but you learn about that in War Bound (book 2) anyway, so I don't believe it makes a difference if you read it after Fierce Heart or at the end of the series. I will say however, it lacked some scenes that are in Fierce Heart that are needed to understand the story, so you'll have to start with Fierce Heart if you're planning on starting the series, which I highly recommend. It's addictive.

How much did I like this? 5 Stars
Ideas - World building: 5 Stars
Ideas - Plot: 4.5 Stars
Character Depth: 5 Stars
Character Interactions: Extensive
Animal Characterisation: Minimal
Warnings: None. Clean Romance. Kissing. Mild violence.

I started listening to Elf Prince, but the author recommends reading Fierce Heart first. I had read it, but it was a while ago, so I decided to read them both. They tell the same story - Fierce Heart is from Essie's POV and Elf Prince is from Farrendel's. It was very interesting to alternate reading Fierce Heart with listening to Elf Prince.

Essie is a Princess of Escarland and to avert a war between her country and Tarenhiel, she is given in a marriage alliance to the elven prince, Farrendel. Essie is determined to make the marriage work, although she is looked down on as a human in the elven court. Farrendel is the elves' greatest warrior, but all the fighting and death has made him feel broken. He thinks that he should sacrifice himself by marrying the human princess to keep peace. But secretly, he’s hoping for more.

I loved the scenes of Essie in the elvish city and how she wins people over. She is a good, kind person trying to do her best. Since Farrendel didn’t talk much in Fierce Heart, it was great to hear his inner dialogue in Elf Prince. I really enjoyed reading the two books together and seeing the story from both points of view.

This series is amazing, I've always loved stories about elves. The lore in this is very well written, and the description of the world and the surroundings is so beautiful I could picture it in my mind. Farandel is such an adorably shy character, I found myself grinning like a fool constantly. Everything about him has my heart doing summersaults, pairing him with Essie really works well. Him been shy and awkward, Essie quite the opposite, she's sort of a rambler. Which actually is much like me, when I'm nervous I ramble on. I have read this entire series, and I can honestly say it's one of my favourite elven series's. I have them all in paperback and in ebook, but I really enjoyed listening to them in audiobook format. It's useful for making sure I was reading the correct pronunciation of names, I hate it when I'm saying them wrong. The narrator does such a beautiful job on this entire series, bringing the characters to life in such a unique way for all of the characters. I really recommend this series to any fan of elven fantasy books, it will leave you wanting more. Not to mention the warm melting feeling, if only Farandel was real.

Gore: He is an elven warrior, so while nothing is detailed, obviously there are battle scenes.

I loved the first book… but I NEEDED HIS POV IN MY LIFE! I haven’t read any of the other books in this series aside from Fierce heart, but since this was the companion to that, I figured it wouldn’t have any spoilers (it didn’t).
Farrendel is so freaking sweet! I loved how keeping his face blank in this was just his disguise, but in FH Essie had thought he was just really stoic! THE AMOUNT OF TIMES HE CALLED HER ADORABLE 😆😍!
Don’t get me wrong though, I love Essie too! It’s rare that I like the FL as much as the ML… but she is so lovable!
Also, I love the relationship dynamic because they talk through things instead of the common misunderstandings that last pages long like in numerous other books. That is a healthy relationship!
I have never highlighted so much from a book in my life… but I did with this one 😆 it was seriously such a good book (like fierce heart, but from Farrendels POV)!

I’m left with a hole in my heart while being filled

You know how you feel after a great book? That sinking feeling that it’s over while being all warm and fuzzy?

Yep. That’s this tale 100 times over. I have absolutely adored the entire Elven Alliance Series: the joy, hope, humor, adventure, and love in these pages never failed to make my own life seem a bit brighter. These characters, my land, I feel for them and want to hug them all at the same time.

It’s clean, it’s fun, and it deals with some hard subjects with humor and laughter threaded throughout. There is blood and mentions of torture, but tactfully done to prevent it feeling dark. And the relationship... oh my word. No spoilers, but it’s so cute and sweet it’ll make your toes curl.

If you haven’t, start with the first book in Elven Alliance then come back to read this end. You won’t regret a moment in this world. Thank you, Ms. grayce, for a beautiful and wonderfully tale that made me smile and laugh when I desperately needed it.

The Hero is kind, honest, and not afraid to grow.

The Heroine is brave, determined, and not afraid to be herself!

It’s nice to read the story from the Hero’s point of view even though some parts can be a little awkward. The quality of the story as a whole overcomes these areas. Writing a new story around a plot that is already written and trying to insert new information has to be complicated and the author did a fairly good job despite awkward sections.

There are zero consent issues!

Neither partner in the marriage takes advantage of or abuses the other one despite significant personal challenges. They may not know exactly what to do, but they keep taking the next step toward healing and loving behavior, even when it’s difficult. Five stars!

I love this book and I absolutely recommend the story from the point of view of both partners.

Loved getting Farrendel’s POV. The story didn’t feel like a complete re-hash of Fierce Heart; you were getting to know someone else. This was well-done, and a fast read.
Some of my questions and perceptions in book 1 were answered/clarified. I enjoyed reading the elven perspective, because in the first I was left guessing about some side characters and what Farrendel was thinking— just as much as the protagonist. Their friendship developing is adorable!

This is a character dealing with trauma and feeling unworthy of being loved. It’s hard for him to find the good. His capabilities of death and destruction face off against hope, love, and what is good—is fear or hope more powerful? Essie helps Farredel cope with the past and seeks to comfort and reframe his abilities.
She loves him despite his faults.

Literally, the same book as the first one. There are one or two parts that are a little different, but its the same. I thought we would get some deep insight into the guys part, but it felt very repetitive to the first book. That could definitely be because I read this book right after the 1st book, so if you do that beware that its practically the same. We do get to understand some of how he feels and when he starts to fall for the girl which is nice. But, parts I was really intrigued about didn't seem to be included, so I was a little disappointed. This book may be enjoyed more based on timing. It wasn't necessarily bad, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. It is a short read, which is nice though. So, if you do want to read it, it shouldn't take very long
