Sex For Beginners is a beautifully illustrated, often humorous documentary comic book that examines human sexuality from the standpoints of history, social relations, and sexual politics. Diverse authorities such as Sade, Sartre, Freud, and Wilhelm Reich also trade provocative views about love and eros. The conclusion is a far-reaching appraisal of the Sexual Revolution and where it is leading us.
A informational comic series from the 1980s that depicts the social, historical, and cultural impact of certain topics. The Beginners Guide to Sex was AHEAD OF ITS TIME in a lot of ways. The comic-patchwork art style makes the overall learning experience entertaining and exciting.
The facts, stories, and quotes are thoroughly researched and informative. The book discusses many aspects of sex within our culture throughout time, and due to its release in the 80s ends the book discussing the stigma around AIDS throughly and in a very educational way! I honestly would recommend this to anyone who is interested in sex and sexuality, gender studies, or even just getting into non fiction books.
Truly bough this at a thrift store for 2$ and it’s one of my top 10 book purchases. Definitely looking into the other books in this series.
Phenomenal ! Even when dated (1988) it’s concepts and information still rings true. An easy read on this fascinating topic that should never be avoided and that we always have so much to learn about. I particularly enjoyed the comic book format and the illustrations and pop culture candid humor and references.
