Johnny Maverick and his friends Tom and Stu want to win the prizes donated for their hockey team's Valentine's Day dance fundraiser. Whoever wins the dance contest takes home all the prizes, one of which is a graphite hockey stick. When the boys learn that Connie, the new girl in Howling, is a great dancer, they each want her as their dance partner. But they don't think about asking her to go with them until it's too late. And as usual, things don't turn out as planned for Johnny and his friends.

Sigmund Brouwer came to my kids' school to do his Rock 'n Roll Literacy presentation. He was funny, and engaging, and had all of the students scrambling for his books after the presentation. My youngest picked out this short chapter book, illustrations included, and had it autographed; what a treat! We all enjoyed the high jinx the main characters got up to while trying to impress Connie enough that she would agree to go to the dance with one of them... You'll have to read it to find out whom she picked!
