A voice calling in the wilderness. John, the son of Zechariah, known to history as John the Baptist, was a remarkable figure. Jesus said he was greater than anyone born before him. His dress-code and diet were unconventional and his preaching was fearless. His ministry of preaching and baptising caused a stir in first century Judea and gathered a following that would continue long after his untimely death. His words were a clarion call to pay attention , but not to John himself. Indeed, John's life wasn't about himself. He demonstrated a single-minded devotion to the One who would come after him. John found joy in Christ and from his words about Jesus we can learn to do the same.
