A shy teacher of freshman composition comes out of her shell to investigate the causes of her aunt's murder. Meanwhile the lead detective frowns on her actions and warns her to get out of the case. But Jessica Chase can't see her way clear to do that -- especially since that detective is eyeing her as the possible killer.
This book has me addicted to Anna Drake mysteries and the surprise ending. I never would have guessed, and I have read enough mysteries, I always look for the unlikely, but she got me.
Another tale of the suspect in a murder case finding out who the real murderer is. Unlike Calamity Jayne, this was had more "meat" to the story. I was surprised by who the murderer was (I had fingered someone else), however, the author took a huge leap with who the murderer was ... or rather, how it was deduced who the murderer was. Didn't care for that part but all in all, a fairly decent read. Now if I could just find some free books that were love stories or murders.....
I got it free, so I wont complain too much. Its actually not too bad, but needs serious editing. A few spaces are a bit long.... the killer could have been a bit more involved in the story.... What got to me a little bit was the whiny attitude of the heroine. Constantly feeling bad and not even standing up for herself when totlly unnecessarily attaced by a legal secretary... really?
This book has engaging characters, an interesting setting, and a believable story line. Its downfall is mechanics--primarily misplaced words and punctuation and some duplication of paragraphs.
