Questo non è un libro contro il digitale. Lungi dal rappresentare una catastrofe, infatti, l'abbandono del sistema analogico coincide per molti versi con un passaggio epocale, destinato a sconvolgere il nostro modo di concepire la fotografia, sia dal punto di vista tecnico che da quello teorico. Ma questo passaggio epocale coincide davvero con una rivoluzione? La fotografia ha veramente trasformato le proprie modalità rappresentative?
Claudio Marra propone un confronto originale fra le due tecnologie per tornare a riflettere su questioni fondamentali per l'identità della fotografia: il rapporto fra realtà, rappresentazione e manipolazione della realtà, il ruolo e la responsabilità dell'autore, la delicata relazione con l'arte e i complessi legami con il mondo dell'informazione e della comunicazione. Questioni che ancora oggi, al di là degli indubbi cambiamenti, rivelano la loro secolare natura etica ed estetica.

Claudio Marra

Claudio Marra graduated in Aesthetics in 1976 with a thesis titled “Photography's Theory and Practice in the Historical Avant-gardes”. He taught Photography at the Accademie di Belle Arti in Ravenna, Florence, and Rome. From 1997 to 2000 he has been a History of Photography lecturer at the University of Bologna College of Liberal Arts where he became tenured as Associate Professor in 2001.
He also teaches at the University of Bologna Postgraduate School for the Art-Historical Heritage.
His research is focused on the historical and theoretical issues concerning photography's position within the broader and more organic field of aesthetics. He is also interested in the relationship between photography and the visual arts. Besides his academic research, Claudio Marra is also actively engaged in both historical and contemporary art criticism as witnessed by his many collaborations with the MAMBO (Museum of Modern Art of Bologna), other important public institutions and several private galleries.
From 2001 and 2006 he also taught at the Master for Contemporary Art Curators held by the MACRO (Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome) and by the School of Architecture of Villa Giulia.
In 2007 he taught a class in the Course for Curators of Photography
Archives held by the Fondazione Zeri at the University of Bologna.
He was a consultant for the Emilia-Romagna I.R.R.S.A.E., an upgrade project for visual arts professors and teachers.
