Jonah is a child soldier, born amidst the chaotic conflicts that rage across West Asia, his family lost to a war fueled by weapons supplied by the so-called Merchants of Death--international arms dealers. Despite Jonah's hatred of weapons and violence, he employs both extremely well in the service of high-flying arms dealer Koko Hekmatyar and her band of mercenaries. Their journey through the dark underbelly of the world's arms markets may lead only to damnation, but will Jonah one day make his way back to the light? Only one thing is it's going to be a long, hard road out of hell...
CIA European Section Chief George Black has an agent inside Koko's squad—the ex-Italian Bersaglieri officer code-named R. Though still mystified by Koko, R has come to admire her and her team. When he learns that another CIA paramilitary operations officer named Hex is plotting a rogue operation against Koko, R's cover and Koko's and Jonah's lives are on the line. Spies and arms dealers like to keep things quiet, but their shadowy world is about to explode!
Born in 1978. Attended prestigious Tama Art University (Graphic Design faculty), but eventually dropped out. His favorite food is chicken. His debut work, Ordinary±, was a quasi-winner of Afternoon's Four Seasons Award in 1999. He also did illustrations for Tonari No Dopperu-san novel series and character design for Assassin in Fate/Grand Order.
Book suddenly introduces new character on Koko's team... CIA Agent Bookman has lost control of his assets. Hex, a do-anything for the goals agent is out to kill Koko, or at least cripple her. Warning, it progresses to a full-on sex scene as Hex gets info. Overall, it's a little too ... predictable? There is some exploration of Koko's psyche, but it is really surface level.
As someone who's into stories that consist of modern political turmoil, arms dealing, guns, black ops, etc. Jormungand was an incredibly engaging read and keeps you hooked on your toes. It may have some problems when it comes to its plot but the characters and engaging and fun with the action being incredibly fun.
One of Koko's bodygaurds is a double agent, and has to decide where his loyalties lie when a rogue agent sets up an ambush for the team. This book continues to hold my interest. The art is awkward at times, but conveys the action and violence really well.
