Naughty is Nice

Newlyweds Leah and Brandon Long are finally taking a honeymoon. But just a few days into their Christmas-in-Vail vacation, Leah takes a tumble on the slopes, severely spraining her ankle. Being stuck indoors isn't so bad the luxurious chalet boasts a hot tub and cozy fireplace. Besides, sitting with her feet up while Brandon serves her in every way a man can serve a woman is exactly how both of them like to spend their time.

Leah would be in heaven, if only Brandon didn't insist on playing with the dynamic of their relationship. With kinky sex and deep conversation the only things on the agenda, Leah can't avoid the discussion of how things might change. Will she be ready to take their marriage to the next level in the New Year?

Unwrapped is a short story from the Naughty and Nice anthology, and since each story has also been released as a short, I'll review them separately.

Leah and Brandon Long are spending their first Christmas together as newlyweds skiing in Vail, but a twisted ankle has Leah off the slopes with nothing but time on her hands. So what are the newlyweds to do? Well, skiing is out of the question, but they manage to fill their days with some easy going sightseeing and lots of sex. I liked the message of the story, about letting go of the past and learning to trust, learning to give and take, but I wish it had been a bigger focus of the story and not just there at the end.

Unwrapped is an epilogue type short connected to Taking Care of Business and No Reservations, and while I wasn’t confused at all by having not read those two books, I didn’t have much of an emotional investment in the couple. The sex was plentiful and would have probably been very erotic had I cared more about Leah and Brandon. I was also disappointed that this story didn’t have that same holiday magic that the first two in this anthology did.

I knew beforehand that this story is kind of a sequel to Taking Care of Business and No Reservations, which I haven't read, but I decided to go ahead and read it anyway because I like stories featuring married couples.

The book description is good enough so I won't bother reinventing the wheel. Here it is:

Newlyweds Leah and Brandon Long are finally taking a honeymoon. But just a few days into their Christmas-in-Vail vacation, Leah takes a tumble on the slopes, severely spraining her ankle. Being stuck indoors isn't so bad though: the luxurious chalet boasts a hot tub and cozy fireplace.

This was a nice quick read, but I think I should have waited and read the previous books beforehand. I didn't feel lost and I understood the dynamics of Brandon and Leah's relationship without a problem, but I didn't connect with them. They were likable enough and their love scenes were hot - or would have been if I had formed a true connection with them - but that was it.

*** NSFW ***

All in all, this was an okay read and it got me interested in reading the previous books. I'll probably revisit this story after I read them, and we shall see how I feel about it then.

Note: This story is also available in Naughty and Nice anthology.

I have to say that Brandon and Leah were my favorite couple in Taking Care of Business and No Reservations. Their relationship was so intense and I was able to connect with them (Leah especially) in a way that I couldn’t with Dix and Kate.

Unwrapped is a short story continuing Brandon and Leah’s story. They’ve been married a few months, and they’re still as intense as ever. They go on a Christmas ski trip as a belated honeymoon and indulge in some of the hottest sex I’ve ever read. The amount of love and trust these two have for each other is obvious, and shines through every page.

When Brandon brings the idea of kids up, it seems as though he’s the one who’s pushing to wait on having any, which is the opposite of what the book blurb said, but I liked the switch up. Seeing Leah go through her mental back-and-forth of “should we or shouldn’t we” was so real and a little on the heartbreaking side. I wish it would’ve been a little longer so that we could see the aftermath of the decision, but it did end in a good place.

If you’ve read Taking Care of Business and No Reservations and want to see more of Brandon and Leah, then you should definitely read Unwrapped. If you haven’t read TCoB and NR, I suggest you correct this oversight immediately, and make sure to pick up Unwrapped the second you’re done.

I was a bit disappointed after reading this story. You definitely have to read Taking Care of Business andNo Reservations in order to understand where this story is coming from. However, even after reading those two stories, and I enjoyed them and liked the characters, I couldn't get into this story.

There's the drama of the fall which seem to take up extra pages and was unnecessary, the fact that she didn't want to spend Christmas with family but all of a sudden she did. And I just didn't like how Leah was taking Brandon for granted a bit.

I guess I had expectations from this story that I didn't see here.

This read just didn't work for me. It was too short and didn't give me time to forge an emotional connection with the characters, and the fact that it opened with sex was more a slap in the face than hot for me. *sigh*

This is the 1st book I read by Megan Hart. The only thing I liked about this story is the hot & steamy scenes. The story line was boring & I didn't feel the romance between the main characters. I would like to read other books by Ms. Hart.

Leah and Brandon are a newly married couple spending their first Christmas apart from family via a skiing trip. The trip doesn't go nearly as planned (but what else could be expected when a nervous novice takes on a black diamond slope). After spraining her ankle, Brandon caters to Leah to the best of his ability (in all ways). Being away from family at Christmas, though, is not all it's cracked up to be. This book includes steamy scenes and includes a cute story. It is HEA with no cliffhanger.

The Blackraven’s Review:

Unwrapped by Megan Hart is a sensual, erotic Christmas story of love, self-discovery, family, and most importantly, trust. Trust in oneself and trust in others. Ms. Hart adds a refreshing, wonderful twist to this Christmas story that encompasses a light D/s relationship in which Brandon is the submissive and he is simply delicious.

This well-written short story will keep you aroused and warm on the coldest of winter nights. The love and trust that Leah and Brandon exhibit as we learn more about their past with the turn of every page is heart-warming, decadent, and inspiring. The give and take between this couple will simply make you envious, as they both learn more about each other and the true spirit of Christmas.

Unwrapped is a delicious story full of wonderful secondary characters that increase the depth of the story as well as the main characters. The vivid scenery throughout this well-written story acts as a character in and of itself, which only brings the plot of the story to life and increased this readers enjoyment with the turn of every page. I couldn’t get enough of Unwrapped, which is the reason I read it in one sitting.

If you’re looking for a scintilating story, where the love is overflowing, the trust builds with every touch, and the sex is scorching hot to the point that it’ll melt the snow outside on a cold winter’s night, then Unwrapped by Megan Hart is the book to read. Don’t wait! Stop by Carina Press and pick it up today, you won’t be sorry.

man, i really need a 4.5 on a lot of the stories i read for GR!

this was a really cute Christmas story. i loved that the couple was already together and still had a few little niggling problems to work through. nothing huge, but the kind of things that can slowly break down a relationship when you're not paying attention.

Brandon and Leah are happy, freshly married and looking toward the future. what things will change, what will stay the same, and what is truly their definition of family. the only thing that kept me from going all the way up to 5stars was that it felt just a tad rushed in spots. nothing that i can really put my finger on just an underlying thing that niggled at me.

i'll tell you one thing...this is the tame kind of kink that i like. just little things that make the bedroom fun and constitute a real relationship, imho.

There was lots of sex in Unwrapped and I’ll give Megan Hart credit because it was well done, in my opinion. The story had a definite Christmas-y feel because of the setting—a delayed honeymoon in Vail over Christmas vacation—and the connection between Leah and Brandon was alive and heated. I liked the play between them, the give and take and exchange of power on both sides. I guess I just wanted a little more plot. We get a peek inside Leah’s mind as she struggles with what she wants from her vacation and Christmas as well as the changing sexual dynamic between her and Braden, but not much more. Not a bad read overall.

I’d like to start this review by saying that when I grow up I would like a Bandboy/Bingo/Fuckmachine of my very own. Those who know me, feel free to add this to my Christmas list, be sure to poke airholes in whatever box you leave him in under my tree. If you’re not familiar with any of these terms and what they may mean, I advise you to pick up Taking Care of Business or No Reservations and introduce yourself to Leah and Brandon (aka Bandboy/Bingo, the Fuckmachine gets attached in this latest installment). Unwrapped is one of four stories in Naughty and Nice anthology by Carina Press.

Since I've read neither Taking Care of Business nor No Reservations (although both are on my TBR list and I really want to read them), I feel like I've missed something big after reading this short novella. Leah's submission to Brandon probably would've been a bigger deal if I'd read the beginning of their story beforehand.

However, it was still hot and Brandon seemed adorable. This only makes me want to read those two books more.

I read this as part of the Naught and Nice anthology. I did not enjoy it. I think it might be part of a series, but I'm not sure. It jumps right in with a newly married couple on their "honeymoon" in Vail at Christmas. It's D/s with the wife being domme, but not really. I don't know. I felt sort of lost and their relationship just sort of made me uncomfortable. I don't really know why.
