“Oh GrEaT” I think derisively. A book from RadioShack about audio systems from the early 90’s. I’m sure this information is relevant and not outdated at all. Then my eyes glance to outside, where my 1989 F150 is parked. Well shit. Maybe this is going to be useful to me.
This book falls into the category of many that grace my shelves, the “I’m a hobbyist and need to know how to get started in this but can’t be assed to do math” category. And for that it’s perfect. While I wish more time had been spent on theory, it’s a book you can pick up and read on a Friday, go to the hardware store on Saturday, and have a well built pair of speakers in your living room by Sunday. And that’s all I can really ask if it, isn’t it?
More importantly, can we take a moment of silence in memoriam for RadioShack? I miss you more and more each year that passes. As I press confirm on a $0.05 resistor with $5.00 shipping, I understand now just how much I took you for granted. Sure, you tried to sell me on your silly home phones well after that ship had sailed, and yes, your employees always smelled a little funny. But every time the B52’s “Love Shack” comes on my fuzzy, un-upgraded car radio (yet!) I can’t help but think of you. Rest well.
