Meet Ashley — a coastal Floridian who can’t go for a beach walk without plotting her next story. The ocean? Her muse. Random strangers’ conversations? Probably dialogue in her next book.

By day, she keeps marketing campaigns afloat (and on deadline). By night, she trades spreadsheets for storyboards, typing away like her coffee depends on it.

A proud rescue dog mom, Ashley’s life has taken her from the chaos of New York City to the calm of the South—though “calm” is relative when you’ve got two dogs and a husband who always finds sand in the car.

When she’s not writing, she’s collecting seashells, sipping something iced, and pretending her email inbox doesn’t exist.

It’s done.

It’s unhinged. It’s the plot twists of all plot twists. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had writing. I cannot wait for y’all to read this. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Ashley gave this book in Exchange of an honest review.. Cora is still uneasy but she agrees to meet a young man her neighbor wants her to meet. They go to the cabin one night so she can show him what she renovated. As there walking around outside he tells her he hears a woman scream then they both see that same creature. Now Cora knows some one agrees with her. Now he agrees to help her. But does he. This was very suspenseful book. It does make you stop and wonder. And the end. Oh boy. Great job Ashley

Cora is one heck of a busy person! She works constantly and has also purchased a home that she is renovating to become an airbnb rental. When this renovation project is over with, she lists her “Widow’s Peak” home on the website and patiently waits for the first stay.

Her first customer, Luke, says he will arrive there in the early afternoon. Cora is so excited, only to find out that he says he won’t be able to make it, but to keep the money and he will give her a great review in hopes that it will help others rent this house.

In NC, there is a myth about The Beast who kills people. It’s a big hairy animal that brutally mauls his victims. With that in mind, Cora can’t get the thought out of her mind. She already doesn’t get a whole lot of sleep from work, but now she has reoccurring scary nightmares.

She talks to her friends about it and even her neighbor’s grandson, Griffin, who she becomes more than just friends with. She doesn’t reveal everything to her friends and to Griffin because she really doesn’t want them to think she is crazy.

Through the windows, Cora and Griffin see something outside. Griffin helps to calm Cora down everytime she panics. He even starts researching about The Beast!

Who really killed Luke? Do they ever find The Beast?

I enjoyed reading this book even though it was anxiety inducing in the best possible way! Luckily, the author gives you breaks by adding interactions that Cora has with her friends or her growing relationship with Griffin. I did not see the ending coming, but it all make sense!

Underwhelming and confusing

I hate giving 2 stars because I know how hard it is to write a book. However, if you’re going to put a book out into the world, it’s important to at the very least have some proofreading done. The book was pretty sloppy, with commas in all sorts of weird places. The dialogue felt unnatural and there was a lot of unnecessary “fluff” that didn’t move the plot forward. The twist was very random and didn’t make much sense. I found myself wrinkling my brow in confusion at much of this book. (“Oh, someone just tried to kill me. I don’t think I should do anything about that. I’ll just move on and try to forget it.”)

I know that cost prohibits many authors from having developmental editing done, but at the very least an author needs to find some beta readers or friends who aren’t afraid to be honest. This story had potential, but needed a lot more fine tuning and massaging.

This book will definitely have you holding your breath at times and have you forgetting to breath ! LOL ! This thriller takes you on a chilling ride, is it The Beast from a good ol’ fokelore or is there something else lurking in the forest ?!

I was not expecting that ending at all. I feel like every time I get too attached to Ashley’s character s in her books, she always rips them from . 😩

I don’t want to give too much out , but I will say this:
If you are looking for a cute romantic novel this is NOT it

But if you want a thriller with a tad of romance ( and I mean a dash) and a spooky story line that will keep you on your toes, and keep you guessing , this is the book for you. So go ahead and add this on that TBR . ‼️

⚠️Also disclaimer if you are scared of the dark , do your self a favor and do not read this at night cause you will dream about the crazy stuff going on in this book . 😜

Thanks to Ashley McConnell for sharing the ARC with me! Look for Beyond the Widow’s Peak which will be published March 28, 2023!

Cora Lincoln is exhausted from working for a publishing house and renovating a cabin in the woods. She finally has her cabin finished and ready to rent, but her first guest, Luke, never shows. A few days later that guests body is found in the woods. His death resembles the death of a teenager from years before, who locals say was killed by the Beast, who locals say live in the woods. Cora becomes obsessed with trying to solve the case. Strange things start happening at home, along with her nightmares that keep her up at night. Cora enlists the help of her new friend Griffin, and what they find changes their lives forever.

Beyond the Widow’s Peak was a thriller with a bit of romance mixed in. Cora and Griffin were set up by his grandma, who is her neighbor. They quickly start to fall for each other while they are trying to find out who killed Luke. Cora and Griffin’s friendship/relationship seemed very natural and was a nice addition to the thrilling story.

I really enjoyed Beyond the Widow’s Peak. It was suspenseful, creepy, and I spent most of the book trying to figure out who did it, which I never guessed! What helps give this story some of its edge is the creepy folklore story of The Beast, who locals say has murdered and lurks in the woods (where Cora’s cabin is located). The mystery, scary folklore story, and the touch of romance all combined make this a great read!

**I received an ARC from Ashley McConnell in exchange for an honest review. Publication date is 3/27/23, preorders of the paperback version available now on Amazon and through her instagram account**

Holy crap was this book a wild ride. You start out with Cora renovating the beautiful Widow’s Peak cabin in the Appalachian mountains, fast forward to the cabin being done and her being very excited for her first guest to check in but then the guest never shows up. You have suspense right off the bat, something to draw you into the novel - which I love. Then you bring in the whole folklore element with the story of The Beast, which had my heart racing at times. It definitely gave me “boy who cried wolf” vibes at certain times with Cora’s friends not believing her suspicions and what she thinks she’s seeing while nobody else is around. I’m glad Griffin was brought into the story because I think he’s a character Cora desperately needed and I loved seeing the two of them develop together. I think Ashley definitely has the potential to write romantic suspense novels, I enjoyed the romantic bits in this but I wanted more from them. I was surprised at the twist at the end, which is exactly what I want from a thriller. Job well done for Ashley McConnell and Beyond the Widow’s Peak, I will definitely be reading whatever she writes next.

*spoilers ahead *

Thank you Ashley for sending me an ARC of your newest novel. I am honored to have been chosen. I sadly didn’t have much time to read this past week, so I was only about 10% through the book when I started this morning. I could NOT put it down y’all!! I devoured the rest of the book in one day. I was thoroughly invested in Griffin & Cora’s relationship as well as the mysterious circumstances involving Luke’s murder & the many other murders in previous years. I had lots of guesses & theories while reading, but I was nowhere near correct! What. A. Twist. 🤯🤩 hope this isn’t Ashley’s last novel because I want to keep devouring her writing style! 😍

P.S. Miranda can suck it 🤣

I have been anxiously awaiting this book to be released! If you have not read Ashley’s book No Proof - add it to your TBR list now! I knew after I read that and The Widows Peak that this would be a good one, and it was! This book captured me from the beginning and I loved reading Cora’s story, the entire plot with Griffin was so sweet without being overly romantic. I was reading this before bed last night and had a nightmare, how ironic? Lol. I would most definitely read it again. I just wish the ending was a bit longer, it did feel rushed, but it was a plot twist that I DID NOT see coming. I can’t say more without giving and spoilers so I won’t, but if there’s a 2nd book, I would not complain!

Overall a good story with a plot twist you won’t seeing coming from any direction. The characters were well thought out and placed perfectly throughout the storyline. It did have some really good scary points where I was wondering what the heck was happening. The relationship buildup between Cora & Griffin was written really nicely and helped pushed the plot along, not making it feel rushed or too slow/stagnant. I felt as though the ending was a bit flat and rushed. I would’ve loved to have had a bit more but if there is a sequel I am all for it.

I invested more time than I should have on this book. I really wanted to like this author’s work. However, the book needed serious editing. Also the rehashing of different issues and circumstances made the entire story overly exhausting. The plot was good but the ending was out of character and trite. Sorry but I just can’t recommend it.

This book sucked so bad. The writing was terrible and it was riddled with errors, grammatical and otherwise. And the ending? Completely predictable and yet unfathomable. That’s not how anyones reactions would have been to that resolution. I’m just glad the book is over and I can move on.

I was disappointed by this book. The start seemed interesting but the plot dragged on and the climax and ending was just not for me. I had a difficult time reading past the many grammatical errors and occasional inconsistencies in the plot.

I've been so excited to read this book after reading the novella and wow, it didn't disappoint!

This story was absolutely amazing! Fantastically written. Such an intense, horrifying, and chilling story, with a tad bit of romance. This book had quite a few WTF moments and what an astonishing plot twist!

I've read quite a few ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ books lately but this one is off the charts!!

Thank you Ashley for allowing me to be a part of your ARC team.

So, I was chosen to be an ARC reader for Ashley McConnell's newest book, Beyond The Widow's Peak! I am excited to share my thoughts!

Are you a fan of folklores? Bigfoot, Lochness? The mountains of NC has The Beast.

Cora Lincoln has aquired a cabin in the woods that she has renovated to become a rental. Her first potential guest is found dead near the cabin in what appears to be an animal attack, which has Cora wondering if The Beast is about. Strange things start happening that have convinced Cora that The Beast has targeted her as its next victim. Where will it all end?

This book will keep you wondering if The Beast is out there and who will be the next victim. Cozy with plenty of skepticism.

This is going to contain spoilers but they won’t be until the end and I’ll give a warning!

Kindle unlimited recommends this book for me and honestly it’s a little scary how well this book fit me.

Overall this book was a really good thriller. Very good at holding my attention which can sometimes be hard to do not gonna lie. The characters were a little to relatable I felt like Cora was a literal combination of me and my best friend. The romance dabbled in made me cry a little from just how cute and innocent it was. A lot of books now have unnecessary sex (I get some need it but some don’t) and this book was super clean! No cussing no sex it was a nice change of pace.
It was a thriller with the cleanliness of a cozy mystery (besides the murders those were gruesome).

As a fellow Carolina girl it really felt like I was at home reading about the places in this book. The characters felt like people I would know, and the storyline had more twist and turns than a back road in the Appalachian mountains.

⚠️⚠️Now this is gonna be a spoiler part only read this for discussion purposes if you’ve already read the book!: and also kind of a note to the author.

1: my sister took it personally the hatred of SunChips in the book. I kid you not she eats about 2-3 bags by herself a week maybe more.

2: I took Cora personally!! I’m 75% through this book, and I tell my husband, “if she makes griffin a killer I’m gonna throw my kindle across the room they have to end up together “ AND THEN YA DID ONE WORSE!!
All in all it makes sense. I should have seen it coming but I really thought you were gonna circle back to the friend who helped her renovate the house. I figured he was the brother of the girl who died so you definitely got me. But like I said I had a personal connection to Cora, from coffee, to tv shows, to music, to the way she ate on the floor that was me… and I have nightmares to so thanks so much. Now I’m gonna install alarms on my doors so I can’t leave at night 😂

This book starts out great. It has all of the right elements-supernatural, thriller, suspense, romance. Using folklore in books always adds interest. There’s a suspicious death in the past and then one not far from the protagonist’s cabin. Is it a murder or a Beast? It was a fast paced book that I read in a few short hours. My problem is the reveal. I really disliked it but can’t say more without a spoiler alert. My opinion may be far from the norm, and I believe this is a new author. So, you might want to give it a try. On Kindle Unlimited.

I enjoyed the book for the most part, and I don’t have too much to dislike about it, but I will say there quite a handful of grammatical errors throughout. Also a good chunk of really corny dialogue between two people that would never happen in real life. And I felt that the final plot twist was really rushed, but it wasn’t so bad at the very end of the book. Other than that, I found it intriguing enough to finish all the way through n.

If you are looking for a twisty, suspenseful , spine tingly novel look no further! Definitely a page turner, because I was so spooked I needed to know what happened! I was up at 3 am finishing this one. I could hear the floors creaking and saw the shadows passing by windows in my house too! This brought back all those childhood scaries you had at bedtime but with a murder mystery to go with it.

Cora is excited to list her newly renovated cabin in the Appalachian Mountains on a vacation site. She's poured herself into this cabin for two years. When her first guest never shows, she's disappointed, but when his body turns up dead, she's alarmed. Some people think the story of a Beast in the woods, attributed to killing a teen years before, is just folklore, but when Cora catches sight of him she becomes a believer. He seems to be taunting...stalking her? I wasn't sure what was happening, and became suspicious of everyone in this story....from Cora's best friend, the detective who was awfully friendly, the guy next store who might be too good to be true, and of course a supernatural Beast lurking beyond the shadows. There are others...but don't want to give anything away!

"People say you should be scared of the monsters under your bed, but the monsters outside are so much worse."

Thank you so much Ashley for trusting me with an arc of your book! I'm so impressed, but not surprised! You've done it again!!

@AshleyMcConnell

A huge shout out from the mountain tops to Ashley McConnell for writing this top-notch murder mystery.
Starters, the location, set in the Appalachian mountains in NC, peaked my interest. A superb location for a cozy Murder mystery.
Aside from the location, the southern charm of the characters, the beauty of the Appalachian mountains, that she gave incredible description to, breathed life into this book.
McConnell pushed beyond the supernatural mysteries of folklore, giving just enough misdirection to keep your nerves frazzled and your brain reeling which set the ideal stage for a plot twist that will “maul” your mind!
Keep the caffeine coming and a cozy blanket close because it’s going to keep you up all night reading and chill your spine with horror.

Okay @the_shelf_love , when the leaves are back on the trees this summer and I'm sitting on my deck, all I'm going to think about is someone watching me from the woods! 🤣

This book was a fast paced read for me and I could not put it down! Small town girl Cora is a workaholic. She works from home and does not get out as much as she should to have some fun! She bought and renovated a beautiful cabin to rent out; however, her 1st rental experience did not go as planned.

Her sweet little neighbor sets her up with her grandson Griffin & that's when Cora's life begins to change. She realizes that she is more relaxed, sets boundaries with her work hours, and is starring to enjoy life so much that her nightmares ease up when Griffin is around. She has finally found the perfect balance for her life.

Right when everything seems perfec, it all comes crashing down when Cora realizes the truth!

This is by far one of the most amazing and spine tingling books that I have ever read. Five stars and more!

It was extremely well written and tense. The characters came to life as well as the scenery. I am thrilled to be one of the members of her ARC Team and I look forward to reading more of her books.

Review 5 Stars!

This must read creepy, thriller kept me up all night reading! I could not put this page turner down! I couldn't pin point who the culprit was. Was it the best friend, the neighbor, the neighbors grandson, or the Beast. The Beast is part of the local folklore tale. Either way expect the unexpected from Ashley. The twist at the end, left me wanting more.
I was on the edge of my seat, with my legs up of course the entire time! While reading I kept thinking of the song, " Somebody's Watching Me".
"Thats what friends are for. I'm here to be your shoulder to cry on, but sometimes I have to tough love this shit."
