Reconstructed by Anna Dolfi with the help of essays and the author's letters, The Choice (a novel that was interrupted when Dessì died) marks the fascinating return of San Silvano and the Introduction to the life of Giacomo Scarbo. The protagonists are Giacomo, Marco, Alina, and the philosophy books discovered by chance in a walled library. Thus Leibniz, Spinoza, Fontenelle guide, together with Proust, the intellectual and sentimental education of young people, while memories of the First World War are activated, reflections on the pain of absence and distance.
A novel designed to contrast the evil of everyday life with the good of the absolute, the desire for truth with the dream of a courageous and different life.
In the background "The village of shadows" which was Sardinia for Dessì, together with an afterword by his lifelong friend: Claudio Varese.
