Michael Grant Ignatieff is a Canadian author, academic and former politician. He was the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and Leader of the Official Opposition from 2008 until 2011. Known for his work as a historian, Ignatieff has held senior academic posts at the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, Harvard University and the University of Toronto.

Grinding, searing, intoxicating and utterly riveting. The author has a talent for description. Asya is a wonderfully written work of authentic, historical fiction.
I picked my copy of Asya up at a Book Stall - just one of those random finds. Tomorrow I'll be going to the book store to look for other books by Michael Ignatieff.
For lovers of fantastical and yet well-researched historical (especially Russian) fiction - Asya will be a real treat. It has a Zhivago-ian feel to it....sort of. :)

When I read this in 1994, I wrote, "Good read. Not too sure about the ending." Might be worth a re-read.

This book found me - on the shelf of our holiday rental - and I just adored it. The story spans the entire 20thC - the life of a displaced aristocratic Russian woman. Men adore her and she by her heart and her head. A timeless woman not a woman of her time. Lovely.

Loved this book, All about her life. Tragedy joy ugly beautiful all of it. very intimate
