Una visita a Beethoven

Come ebbe a scrivere lo stesso Wagner, furono proprio le sinfonie di Beethoven a determinare in lui la vocazione per la musica. E infatti Wagner restò sempre fedele al grande compositore, al quale dedicò - oltre a diversi scritti di approfondimento teorico - il suo giovanile racconto "Una visita a Beethoven". Protagonista è il grande compositore, assediato da frotte di curiosi desiderosi di incontrarlo. Wagner immagina il pellegrinaggio verso la dimora del Maestro di un giovane musicista, tormentato dall'incontro ripetuto con uno di questi "curiosi", un aristocratico inglese appassionato di musica, che pare incarnare la sciocca superficialità di un pubblico che, dopo non aver saputo riconoscere il genio di Beethoven, continuava ora a travisarlo.

Călătoria lui Wagner la Viena este pură închipuire, deoarece atunci când "Titanul" (Beethoven) moare, în 1827, Wagner avea 14 ani. Ca un mare admirator al lui Beethoven -mă gândesc!-, Wagner a plăsmuit tot pelerinajul său, căci a ales din toate căile posibile, calea posibilității: imaginarul.
Totuși:
1. Despre surzenia lui Beethoven: ...Să pășești prin viață străin de bucurii și sărac; să știi că ție, singura inălțare sufletească ți-o oferă forța sunetelor și să fii silit să spui: "Nu aud!"
2. Despre muzică: În cazul acesta, creația poetică trebuie să se situeze pe planul al doilea, întrucât cuvintele sunt mult prea neputincioase.
3.Beethoven cel mizantrop: Oamenii îmi pretind să scriu precum își imaginează ei că ar fi frumos și bine. Uită însă că eu, un biet surd, sunt osândit să trăiesc doar gândurile care-mi aparțin doar mie. Că nu-mi stă în puteri să compun altfel decât simt. Că nu pot gândi și nu mă pot însufleți frumusețile lor. Iată nenorocirea mea - adaugă el cu amărăciune!

Wagner’s «pilgrimsferd til Beethoven» er en «fanfiction» om at Wagner ser for seg hvordan det hadde vært å møte Beethoven på 1820 tallet. Karakteren i historien har ikke navn, men kan være et selvportrett av Wagner selv som ung musiker. Den ofte sjarmerende romantiske stilen rant litt over da Beethoven (under hans fiktive møte med den unge musikeren) antydet at han ikke kunne skrive operaer, men at om han skulle gjøre det slik han virkelig ville, ville han skapt et «musikalsk drama, uten resitativ og arier, med Shakespear som inspirasjon til det tekstlige innholdet», med andre ord nøyaktig det Wagner gjorde med sine operaer. Men Beethoven trekker også frem skissen på den niende symfonien, og det blir tydelig at Wagner prøver å vise hvordan Beethoven var en inspirasjon til de musikalske dramaene han senere skrev, ikke kun at Wagner mente at hans evne til opera-komposisjon overgikk Beethovens.

Richard Wagner admired Beethoven's talent, and mentally made a meeting with him as a young composer. In a fictional conversation with him, Wagner tries to explain his attitude towards opera and opera music, which he embodied later during his stay in Bayreuth. On the other hand, Wagner opposes himself to the "lovers" of music, in the person of an untalented and superficial English aristocrat who persecutes him during his pelegrimage to Vienna to worship Beethoven.

Wagner confida di avere le lacrime agli occhi e di sentire l’impulso ad inginocchiarsi davanti al maestro per essere stato iniziato da lui a quella sua «prodigiosa ultima sinfonia […] ancora ignota a tutti» ed io confesso di aver partecipato delle sue sensazioni...

Am citit cartea pentru că mi-a fost recomandată de prof. de istoria muzicii. Credeam că voi găsi informaţii despre influenţa lui Beethoven asupra lui Wagner (exemple muzicale, lucruri concrete). Am găsit o poveste.
Nu e e extraordinară, se vede că Wagner nu era scriitor.
