Very fun Usborne book. Comes with a ladybug that you pull back and then put on the track to get it home but has to pass through other bugs and flowers. Kids can spot different things in each of the pages.
I don't rate it higher bc the bug comes off the track every time and it's about 4 thick pages. For $25 I should've gotten atleast 3 more pages.
My little nephew is obsessed with Ladybugs and cars, so basically a book with a lady bug that moves around like a toy car, on a track that's incorporated into the pages of the book is basically a winning combination.
As full disclosure, though, I only ever actually read the first page:
"The busy bug has been to see her friends.
But it's time for her to go home now.
Follow her as she travels around the garden."
Because after that it's all about watching the ladybug go! And the little man has quite a blast every time.
After we're done reading the book he will point out other bugs and small animals in the pictures and ask "What's that?" So he's learning that way, the book also teaches prepositions as it describes how and where the ladybug is moving: "over the bumpy stones", "around the butterfly", "behind a red toadstool", but all that is a bit beyond the two-and-a-half year old. I can see it being useful for introducing them to an older kid tho.
The kids both like this book but it isn't my favorite. It is really more of a toy than a book to read. The kids have trouble focusing on the book as they just want to play with the wind up bug. The three year old can wind the bug backwards to make it move while the one year old cannot do it herself yet.
Also, the bug has some problems staying on the track. The book doesn't sit flat when you open it so I usually have to hold up one end of the book. Even when doing that it still comes off the track sometimes.
One of my 5-year olds favorite books. My kids love pulling the toy back and putting it on the line while I am reading the book. We try to put this on a high shelf, though, and can only be played with when I am around so they don't lose the ladybug.
This is a big children’s book that you lay flat on the floor or table. On its pages are very colorful places for the “busy bug” to explore. Each of these two page landscapes have imbedded in them a track for the busy bug to follow. The book comes with a mechanical lady bug (the busy bug) that moves and follows the track around each location. This book is fun to read and fun to watch the lady bug move around the pages. This is one of my grand daughter’s favorite books.
