Where do I even start?
First of all, I wanted to give this book 5 stars, but then the ending happened and I decided on 4, and then five again.
Talk about a book hitting you in the head, literally.

So, there I was reading and turning pages and telling myself 'Damn, Abigail you're in trouble' and then Bang! I'm reading the ending of the book with tissues.

I looked really sad at the end.

The concept of the story was good, I enjoyed reading it. The whole meaning of guardian angels from Melody's point of view was fascinating.

I liked every part of this book, from Gideon's creepy yet lovely, funny shinanigans to Abigail's rather thrilling life, but what I didn't like was the ending. WHAT WAS SHE THINKING????
I'm tempted to go all CAPS, but I'm going to stop, and hope that the second book gives answers.

So for those of you who haven't read the book yet let me give you some spoilers.

On the cover of the book you'd find the three main characters, Gideon Chase (In black), Abigail Cells (In the dress) and then Tristan Silas (in white). Now two of them are angels, I'm sure you can guess who, and the other one happens to be a damsel who isn't in distress!

All three characters are unique in their own way, and I really enjoyed their journey together although it ended so soon. The book was packed with actions, tears, more actions and more tears, which really wasn't good for me.

That being said highly recommend this book to anyone who love YA, paranormal, romance and sexy evil angels. Though I'm not promising you'd like the ending.

WTF?!?

Up until the 50% mark I would have given it 4 stars.

The premise was outlandish: a bona fide psycho killer for a hero without anyone batting an eyelash at all the blood and gore, least of all the heroine whom he tried to off several times?

 photo tumblr_lt48bpdNvu1qb70fz_zps0e1f79b7.gif

Bring it on. The craziness level was so high that it could only make the whole thing enjoyable. The characters were psychotic (or dumb) but they were consistently psychotic (or dumb) and had some depth. It was some pretty addictive crack. I was enjoying it so much that I started to feel somewhat guilty for being so harsh on the trainwreck that was Hush, Hush with its repulsive hero, Patch. How could I love a book that had some of the elements that made me want to throw Hush, Hush against the wall?

 photo tumblr_m34lgjVXw11qdwpo5o2_500_zpsbfd739f4.gif

 photo forgive-me_zpsa32ec8da.gif

Then the heroine's car went off the Golden Gate bridge and everything went down the drain(and my guilt with it).

The writing had felt somewhat amateurish during the first half (lots of info dump, typos, awkward sentences etc...) but the second half reminded me of some of the worst fanfictions I've ever read. Was only half the book edited? The contrast was truly jarring.

Storywise nothing made sense anymore. The characters felt like caricatures of themselves.

Case in point, our heroine:

I don't know how we went from good crack to bad crack but I'm still feeling the whiplash. I need to forget this book asap.

At first look for this book you're probably thinking something along the lines of "great, another damsel in distress." I can see where you'd get that. She is, after all, wearing a pink dress on the cover while being flanked by two guys with wings floating nonchalantly in the middle of a burning city. And the blurb might just sound like another stupid girl falling for some stupid guy just because he's stupidly hot when he actually just wants to kill her. Stupid, right? Yeah, no.

You see the thing with these "damsels" is that they usually don't run around with a bow strapped to their back and something that looks like the handle of a gun peeking out behind it. And they certainly don't knock the "drool-worthy" guy back up against a wall and put him in a choke hold in the middle of an empty classroom. Because Abby did that. And it was fabulous.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Unlike the more weak female protagonists, Abigail actually has a spine and, heaven forbid, a brain, and she's not afraid to use either of them. She is one mean, sharpshooting, ice cream loving, fire extinguisher wielding machine. That sentence will make more sense once you read the book. And you should, because it's good!

Abby doesn't just fall in love with Gideon from the moment she sees him, and he definitely doesn't just pledge himself to her either. There is actually a believable progression here, which is really nice to see. There are some very sweet moments, but you have to believe me when I say that this isn't just a romance novel. It's so much more.

The Cells family has a pretty big secret hidden behind their seemingly perfect life, and Abigail has been training for years to make sure that it doesn't become the death of them. But wait, that's not all! You think life threatening human issues are bad enough? Oh no, it gets much worse. Because what does Abby say when she's thrust into the middle of a war between Heaven and Hell? "Honey, hold my earrings. I'm going in."

Let me start this review with this: I like this book! Caught your attention? Now, let me explain why I feel that way.

First, the cover is cute. It is YA fiction and I think that the cover appeals to its target readers. Just from it, one can already have an idea of what the story will be. I especially like the inclusion of the two angels on both sides of the female princess, which is basically what the novel will be about.

The premise of the novel is also good. The author has another take on guardian angels. They do work in pairs – one light, one dark. One is to save and protect the guarded human, while the other threatens and harms. Two worlds were also created where the two different kinds of angels exist to balance and harmonize the set-up.

As for the characters, they look normal as far as paranormal stories will go. Do I make sense here? Anyway, the heroine, a mortal named Abigail, is a popular princess who doesn’t want to be one. Daughter of a rich fashion icon and a secret agent, she wants to live a normal life. Well, you know the story. She is guarded by handsome Tristan, the light angel prince who is known to be the do-gooder, hope and sunshine of the world. Then there’s Gideon, a sexy yet dangerous dark angel who is feared by the entire race he is living with. Yes, even angels fear him. Now, the two are in Abigail’s life, and what do you think will happen?

The plot is well written though a bit expected. The relationship between the characters are truly formed that I found myself confused about who to root for. Will I be Team Gideon or Team Tristan? It is really a difficult thing to decide.

Aside from the good storyline, the novel is also full of jokes and humor most especially from Gideon and I couldn’t help but like him (aha!) for that. But there are rooms for tears too and it’s been few weeks since I cried over a story.

Though I do not like the ending, I can say that the author made a wonderful job for her first novel. I am looking forward to read the second installment in the series and hopefully, the story will catch-up! Now, will I recommend it? Definitely. For those who are fans of YA and paranormal fiction, this book is for you. For others who don’t like angel stories, why not try this one?

Relax. Focus. Aim and Conqueror:

This is what Abigail knows.

When I started reading this book, I thought I was going to read about another girl getting herself in danger by falling in love with someone she shouldn’t, but that didn’t happen.

I wasn’t exactly a fan of the whole angel entourage until this book. The story kept me guessing and with every page that I turned, I wished I wasn’t getting that far ahead. You’ve got hot guardian angels who…
Don’t let me get started on Gideon; he’s someone you don’t want to meet. Throughout the whole book, I couldn’t help but laugh at his jokes, and allow myself to fall for him .I know he’s just a character, and somehow scares me a bit, but I love him.

Melody didn’t just give us one heartthrob but rather two, and whiles Gideon might be the opposite of the guardian angels I had in mind, hot Tristan just gave me that. He’s a character I won’t mind getting stuck in an elevator with. Although he’s the good guy, loving and caring and Gideon makes him sound like, ‘Jesus’s twin’, he’s also a tease.

Melody did an awesome job with her first book. Not only did she introduce me to a world that I had no idea excited, but she also made me want to never leave. I loved how she didn’t only create a heroine but a damsel in distress as well. All her characters are easy to love and to relate too.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves reading. I’ll defiantly be reading it again.

Before I go ahead and start ranting about what I thought about the book lemme just say, I haven't read anything quite like this before.

I am fascinated by the idea of angels and demons and after looking at that beautiful cover, I just had to read the book. The illustration itself represents a lot about the story. Even though Dominion is my first book with angels, (well not quite angels but Grandinians and Grantinians) I really enjoyed reading about the characters.

Abigail isn't quite what I expected when I started reading Dominion, she was a surprise. Kindda sneaked up on me. Abigail is not a normal teenage girl, and like I said she kindda sneaked up on me. Gideon, here is one very twisted and sexy creature, that I liked reading about. No. Really. I did! He scares the life outta Abigail, and practically everyone, but I still likes him. It felt a bit like he was suffering from split personality disorder but heck, I liked him evil.

The author did an wonderful job bringing her characters to life and really awesome job with the twisty turns of the story that kept me guessing what's to come next. Recommended to readers who likes reading paranormal young-adult.

What a book! I was absolutely enthralled by the cover and description so I just had to see where the story would lead. It most definitely did lead me and who knows it may have not been my choice! This wonderful author has expertly create new dimensions and races that will leave you reeling in their wake. Taking the old tales of angels and demons to an entirely new level. Melody, if you pardon the pun, writes a new tune for these creatures and gives them relatable characters that will draw you into their world. An exceptional book that I am sure will fill my high hopes!

“No one can force you to become a monster – you hurt someone and you create your own demons.”

Wooooow! Just wow! I must say, this book took me really by suprise. I mean, woah.. It was fantastic! Melody Manful, your fucking brilliant! This is one of the best young adult i've read, and i can't wait for more! The story was just really great, and i didn't want to stop reading! It was action filled, love, hatred , passion, power, sadness.. Gosh, Melody really did make me cry like a little baby! I mean.. How could she do this to me? The loses in this book... damn, i.. god, i just wanted to hit something, or lie down and die!

The characters are fucking brilliant! I love them! I'm a sucker for bad boys, and man.. Gideon was probably the king of bad boys! He's funny, sarcastic, evil son of a bitch, and god damn freaking powerful! Picture this:

I was definitely picturing a Damon Salvatore here.. And i LOVED it!! :D I love how Melody wrote him. Usually, you read books where the bad boy becomes the good boy, but Gideon doesn't really change much. THANK GOD! I don't want him to change at all!! He's perfect just the way he is, and i'm hopelessly and completely in love with Gideon Chase!!
I want him, and just to be clear:

Abigail Cells is pretty awesome! At first i thought she was a hopeless, need people to take care of her, good kind of girl that follows all the rules, but damn i was wrong.. She's a freaking hot kick-ass-heroine who doesn't take crap from everyone, yet still so good and nice. Though i love Abby, sometimes she did annoy me.. like when she's trying to change my baby Gideon, i mean can't she just except the way he is? Why change him?

Okey, i get that he's evil, and kills people/creatures for fun, but come on.. It's kinda ... hot? :P Tristan Silas, on the other hand is the complete opposite of Gideon. He's really good, and is the hero everyone wants. Everyone is scared of Gideon, and Tristan is their savor, because they are both equally powerful, though they never actually are able to kill each other, even though Gideon would love nothing else than to see Tristan dead. I love both boys, but i'm definitely team Gideon, all the freaking way!

The ending in this book, is simply killing me... I don't know what to do.. I feel lost?! I... what just happen? I mean, Melody: HOW IN HELL CAN YOU END A BOOK LIKE THAT?! I need the next one, and i need it NOW! Or else.. I'll lose it! I can't take not knowing what will happen!

While I don't always love books about guardian angels I do love fresh new concepts about them and am always intrigued enough to give them a try.

Melody definitely came up with something new in the genre. Not only are humans guarded by an angel that helps them stay out of harms way, but they also have another darker angel that wants them to get in trouble too. And these two angels, must work together to find a balance to keep their charge safe or die trying.

Tristan one of the most gentle and loving guardian angels (a Grandinian) around is assigned to help protect Abigail which wouldn't be a problem except that his partner, the one that is suppose to put her in harms way, is none other than Gideon (a Grantinian), one of the most dark and feared angels around and he is hell bent on destroying Abigail's life and not letting Tristan win in the century long battle of good versus evil, right versus wrong.

And unfortunately for Tristan and Gideon both, Abigail isn't an ordinary teenage girl either. Nope things couldn't be that simple. Abigail is famous. Growing up with a designer mom and a Hollywood dad hasn't always been easy for her and she is constantly surrounded by bodyguards and having people around her all the time, watching and judging her every move. And of yeah, she seems to be able to do things that aren't quite normal either.

I had a hard time getting into this book in the beginning. It was a little confusing at times and jumped back and forth between Abigail's world and the angels world and left me feeling a little lost but I know that once this book has been edited some more and all is said and done it will be better and not so confusing.

Once I figured out what exactly was happening it was much easier to get into but I still never quite felt that connection to the characters or places that I really like to have.

The storyline was interesting and like I mentioned above, the premises was something fun and different. I really liked how the author did Gidgeon’s character. He was very flawed and dangerous and evil and then...well I won't give anything away but I do like it when the unexpected happens to the bad guys.

Overall I think the series and author does have potential and I think it will be really interesting to see where it goes from here.

Overall I give this one a very solid 3.5 Stars!

When I first saw the book it self I wasn't sure I personally didn't think much of it but I read it anyway. Once I started to read the book I wasn't that impressed. But I kept on reading because there was so many good reviews on the book but after chapter 2 or 3 I think I couldn't stop reading I was addicted. The way Melody Manful went into both Abigail's and Gideon's background before they met. The story always knew where it was going never got side tracked by a love triangle or whatever as a lot of books do now quite abit, which is very annoying. The ending for me had me in tears as you find out things about all the main characters which never crossed my mind so that surprised me in a very good way then it ended on a very big cliff hanger. Now I'm just going on and on. Sorry if I got some things wrong I read it like a month ago and was busy with exams. Anyway I adored the book and would recommend it to anyone its got: romance, good angels, bad angels, guns, fighting, the grim ripper. It has everything in it for everyone.

"I have a question. How does it feel to fall in love?" a little girl asked. Two of her front teeth were missing.
How the hell would I know?
Everyone was quiet, so knew I had to answer.
"Well," I cleared my throat and tried to remember all the cheesy sayings I had heard about falling in love. "It's unexplainable."

I looked at Abigail, which turned out to be a stupid decision because when my eyes met hers, I felt a stir of emotions in my chest. "And unexpected," I whispered to myself.

Gideon’s a Grandinian angel; Tristan, a Guardian. Whilst the Guardian angels have the job of guiding and protecting the humans they’re assigned to, Grandinian’s try and harm as many as they can, keeping the balance of life…well, balanced.

Gideon and Tristan have avoided crossing paths…until now.

Gideon is given the biggest test of his destructive powers thus far: to harm Tristan's ènas (human he's assigned to). Tristan is notorious for his guarding abilities, just as much as Gideon is for his harming ones. Fuelled by his hatred of 'goody goody' Tristan, Gideon takes on the task gladly - feeling smug. This task is going to be piece of cake.

Until he meets Tristan's ènas, Abigail.

A human, the daughter of a CIA agent and one of the most beautiful woman alive, charity helper and highschool student, Abigail has more facets than she lets other see - ignorant of the two angels that tail her, disguised as teenagers. To Abigail, Tristan's the kind, sweet friend who's always there to lend a hand... Gideon's the new student with a sharp tongue, devilish good looks and can be described in a single word.

Jerk.

Angels don't fall in love.

Gideon's meant to be harming Abigail. He's meant to be shooting fire at her, causing accidents, making her fall off balconies - not spending time with her at the library, laughing at her jokes and thinking about her 24/7. He's not going soft, is he? No! He's a Grandinian angel, for crying out loud - no way would he fall for a mere human, not even one as pretty as Abigail..

'And without as much as a breath, I did it - I allowed myself to fall.'

A tale of angels - good and bad - and how humans possess the strength to change the fate of the world...for better or for worse.

******

This book was very entertaining.

My only criticism? The 2-D nature of the characters at the beginning of the story.

It made this book hard to get into. I felt as if the characters had little depth, Gideon's pyromaniac nature over-exaggerated to the point of it being ridiculous. None of the characters for me really began to shine until we got to the climax of the book...when Gideon starts to have conflicting feelings for Abigail.

Then we see the emotions bubbling underneath the surface of these characters - Abigail is brought to life in a whirl of colour, her childhood exposed as a sad and lonely. She forced to grow up too fast. The speech that she gives to her father when she's recovering from her ordeal is haunting. Every little girl wants her dad. Every girl wants a stage in her life where she can just be and not have to worry about fights, evil, being strong and how to shoot a gun. Unfortunately for Abigail, this was never an option for her. She had to protect her mother and be strong for her.

Tristan seems like your typical blonde and nice, puppy-lovin' dude until you receive the revelation that he feels the pain and death caused by Gideon, as well as the good in others. He is affected almost physically by it, which explains why he tries so hard to stop all of Gideon's attempts to destroy everything.

And as for Gideon...yeah. He's hot. I won't lie. But he's also the least deep of the characters. He blows stuff up, kills and is volatile. I understand that this is how he's meant to be. But it's annoying that he lets his hot and cold act affect Abigail. The scene where she's like 'If you leave now (a.k.a to go kill people) we're done!" I was just like:

Let him go. A girl should NEVER enter a relationship with a guy wanting to change him. It never ends well, because men are frankly like leopards and those kitties never change their spots.

Overall it was a good read - but light. The cover was beautiful - the cliffhanger pure torment.

A story that revolves about guardian angels is such a foreign concept to me. Not foreign that I haven't read any, but foreign that I haven't read that much. Dominion has a straight forward story from what I read - good vs. bad, guy falls in love with the female lead, and a tragedy and mystery at the end. A story where an angel falls in love with a human and will do anything to fight for their relationship even if it means war.

Right from the very start, well be acquainted with Gideon. According to Dominion he's a Grandinian Angel. Grandinian angels are the angels who test fellow angels by harming their humans. Basically the black angel, or the dark one or whatever you want to call them. Gideon loves to hurt humans and fellow angels. It's his second nature. It is a well known fact that every angel fears him. In any situation that involves Gideon, other angels immediately fear for their life because Gideon love destruction. It means that they are about to die. That's everyday life for Gideon until he met Abigail.

Abigail is our female lead. A human girl who has a very complicated story. Abigail is the human that Tristan is guarding. Tristan is the other angel in this story. He's the good angel. Tristan is the complete opposite of Gideon in every way. Appearance, personality, virtues, upbringing, the works. If Gideon is feared among angels, Tristan is the one who is respected. So back to Abigail. Abigail is a teenager with a glamorous life in addition to it being dangerous because of her fathers work. Abigail

Halfway through the story, its pretty mellow. You'll read more about character background, a few history touches to the story and a number of supplementary character introduction. Narration is divided between characters but transition is smooth so you won't have to worry about being left out or confused. As I said, everything will run smoothly until you reach the middle part of the book. This is the part where Gideon and Abigail falls in love. And oh my God I hated that part!

I don't hate romance in my books but OMG Abigail was a walking cliche whereas Gideon was irritating. I just couldn't appreciate their relationship. It was gushing with mushiness and exaggeration. I don't see the appeal of Abigail trying to change Gideon just because she can't accept what he trully is. Abigail apparently falls in love with Gideon in spite the fact that he's bad and dangerous. Maybe I am too old for this kind of love but for the love of reading I just couldn't stand them two. I had too many eye rolls on the love department.

Asides my obvious unease and dislike for the romance in this story, Dominion is quite intriguing. The twist in the end is definitely a treat and will warrant a "What The Heck" moment. The development bomb at the latter part of the story will most likely be where the story would take a different turn BUT that will also warrant a big cliffhanger. Ahhh, the dreaded cliffhanger.

Overall, the story was OK. I definitely had issues with the story and there were wholes to it but I couldn't shake the fact that I did enjoy reading most parts it. Beginning and ending was great, the middle part and the romance was the biggest clincher for me. It just didn't work and it was over exaggerated for my taste. Still undecided if I'll be picking up the next book.

This story really does have a fully formed love triangle. I was constantly going back and forth on which boy was the right one for Abigail, but the author really did have a way to get the reader to lean towards the bad boy in this one. Gideon really is the boy that may not be the perfect fit for the heroine, but there is just something about him that will draw the reader in and love him as much as you should be hating him. But your still not sure you don't want her to be with the good guy either.

There are a lot of parts where Abigail is constantly weighing pros and cons inside her head when she is trying to figure out what it is that she really wants. She likes to look at the bigger picture instead of just what it is that is in front of her face at the moment, but still has trouble getting beyond her own feelings when making those decisions. With the constant trouble of trying to decide if she really wants to be with somebody who does bad. "Gideon loved being Gideon, having people fear him" or the good guy that doesn't have to try hard to be good at all. Why is it that us girls always seem to fall for the bad guy? Well it's because we want some excitement in our lives, and believe me Gideon brings the excitement.

The unique twist to other romantic, teen triangles out there today is the authors approach to angels. In this story there are 2 angels that look over her but they are called Grandinians and Grantinians. But Abigail is no regular human being either. There is a huge inner struggle that she goes through trying to make the best decisions in this story and the reader will never quite know what direction she is going to go. There were a handful of parts where I thought that Abigail was over thinking things and I just wanted her to act on her emotions, but it was also interesting to see her thought process and how much unselfish thoughts she was considering before making rash decisions.

I think that people who enjoyed reading L.A. Weatherly's Angel Burn
may enjoy this book as well. It's a very thought provoking book and you will be challenge against the common idea that angels represent good, and therefore are only good.

*no spoilers*
The plot was great!
I liked the set up, and it had just the right amount of characters.
However, there was lots of room for improvement.
I think the book could have used more details (descriptions) to make us feel like we're really there. Smells, textures, and sounds would have enhanced the realism. Similes to things that the author thought up would have helped as well. One other thing I would have added is more transition scenes. It feels like we're jumping from scene to scene as though we were watching a movie or tv-show. While it is okay for a video medium, for a book it is a bit lacking. A book relies entirely on the reader's imagination, so by not using all of the writer's tools to tell a story one only deprives the story of its true potential.
On a side note, the characters could have been developed a bit more. We're only told that they are this way, but a back story would help readers connect to characters more. The heroine (female main character) is the only one with a back story. Since this story is also told from another point of view, it would not make sense to leave out the male lead's back story (unless written purposefully, which I didn't feel it was). Some of my favourite authors add back stories for side characters in such a way the reader doesn't feel they are drowning in boring details. We are given just enough information by what the characters say, do, (think), and others say about them, so that we can piece together their full story on our own.

he's the good gardian angel of abby whereas Gideon the badass ... but in this story u'll find that Gideon is the lead who gets the girl n Tristan, poor soul he gets the pain n the company of D( i hate that bitch)...

there was a point in the story where Abby gets confused n thinks that she's in love with both the guys... i mean r u kidding me? howz that possible how can u love both the guys... thats impossible... liking both the guys, possible... physically attracted , possible but love, i seriously dnt think so...
overall the story is good n beautifully written....

I just finished Dominion and I have to say it was all that I wasn't expecting. The plot is strong, Abigail the "damsel in distress" is actually a very accomplished fighter. She is the target of a Grandian Angel, Gideon, who seeks to kill her/ cause harm to her. Her Guardian Angel, Tristan is the epitome of good and seeks to protect her as well as pretty much the whole world. There is love, danger, and a cliffhanger! Also I really enjoyed reading the short quotes before each chapter. Please read, I waited a long time for this book and enjoyed it immensely, as in stayed up till 1am, slept then woke up at 4am to finish reading!

Two races of angels and demons are expected to work with one another as guardian angels. Abigail Cells finds herself torn between two Gideon and Tristan, both have different qualities that Abigail finds enticing. Which path will Abigail follow?

What you think will happen in Dominion is far different with what does. This story has as many twists and turns as a roller coaster. You vacillate between who you want Abigail with the choice is not rigidly clear, as each turn of the page has you more pulled in to this terrific story. I thought this was an excellent story of a new series and felt the story of these angels was refreshingly new. Excellent read.

"Beware of the angels you invite in, for some are only demons in disguise."

WOW! The story starts off showing you who Gideon is (at least who he feels he is) and he is a JERK to say the least. He is a downright sociopath in so many senses. Then the challenge is presented and Gideon has so much to face and so much to learn. The world that this story opens up will suck you in and the end will leave you crying out for more...

When i first started Dominion, i was actually kind of worried that the actual book itself won't live up to the cover. The cover of this book is officially my favourite book cover of the year, I felt that not only was the cover very captivating, but it also reflects the actual story itself really well. Most "nice" covers nowadays normally don't really have much to do about the novel, however i felt that this cover really fits in with the story. Surprisingly, the characters on the covers were exactly how i imagined them in the book. I feel that it portrays Abigail really well as a "Damsel in Distress", almost like torn in the middle of love or a battle. The way Tristen and Gideon are placed, worked really well with their background. Tristen being the more "angelic" angel is floating an a more "brighter and lighter" part of the grass, whereas Gideon, who is supposedly the "dark and bad" angel is floating on a more darker and gloomier side with his dark clothes and wings immediately giving me a sense of danger. Nonetheless, both of the guys are proudly looking at Abigail with a sense of longing. This immediately gives me the impression that there is a love traingle with both guys who are more than worthy for her. However, the handprints of blood on her dress, the tears streaming down her face, the bow and arrow she's carrying, the sword that Gideon is holding and the fire in the background tell's me that there is much more to this rather than just love. As you can see, the cover gives a lot of information about the novel itself, making it more intriguing.

As much as i hate to admit it, i hate prologues. So i literally sighed when i saw that there was a prologue to this book. In my opinion, i just think that they are pointless and just confuse the reader before they even start the book. Therefore, when i first started reading this book, i just felt like the prologue didn't flow very well with the book. Although I understood the prologue when i read on, i just felt like maybe it would've been better if the prologue was more about Tristen's and Gideon's past. Or like a tale about the Moon and the Sun.

So minus the prologue, i felt that the story flowed really well. It wasn't really hard to get into. In fact, as i read on, i found myself not wanting to put the book down!!

I actually tried to think of any flaws or improvements that need to be made in this book but not surprisingly, i could not find ANY! This book was truly amazing and definitely lives up to the cover!

The romance in this book made me squeal into my pillow and sometimes it also made me really agitated when her feelings were mixed up!

Surprisingly, i found that my most favourite character in this book was actually Valoel. I actually despised her a bit a first, however as the novel progresses and i see what her intentions really are and how she is feeling, the portrayal of her turns from an annoying sister to a admirable and very thoughtful angel.

Abigail was also pretty admirable. In fact, i really do sympathise her. At such a young age, she's already experienced many un-thinkable things. I'm actually pretty upset that she has to live with that "sin" now.

The one thing i hate to admit in this book is that it made me VERY emotional. No really, very. I cried so much at the accident with her Dad and when she was arguing with him. And then the thing with Tristen and Gideon at the end was very heartbreaking and yet again put me into tears.

Sadness, hope, love, jealousy, heart-broken, aggravated and happy. Those were all the emotions this book made me feel. There was actually probably more.

I love it when books are really un-predictable! And let me tell you guys, this book is completely un-predictable!! The only thing i was actually sure was that Gideon and Abigail were perfect together. The ending shocked me so much! Omg! Literally, my mouth went :O! Seriously, expect the un-expected in this book.

The only other negative thing i can say about this book apart from the prologue is the bleeping cliffhanger at the end!!! How could you do this to us Melody? Waiting for the 2nd book is going to be pure torture!

Overall, this book was absolutely amazing. One of the things i love in a book is that if it touches my heart. Many of you may know that i read to escape into another world, this book, really did make me feel like i was actually there with them. This is why i can proudly say that this is one of my favourite reads this 2012.

Review to come, but I am not too sure how to feel about this book.

There is always a moment or a line where I know picking up a book wasn’t a mistake. Sometimes I am disappointed and other times I get a really entertaining read. For “Dominion” the moment I knew I made the right choice is when Gideon says, “that’s one stupid spider” in reaction to the Itsy bitsy spider song. It’s a simple and yet a great moment that reveals the jaded nature of the character.

The story follows Gideon, an evil Guardian Angel. In this world, humans have two sets of guardians. The guardian sent to protect us and the guardian sent to hurt us. Basically human life is a game and the outcome of our lives rests on which of our guardian’s is the strongest. Gideon, the most evil of Angels, is placed on a human subject with Tristan, the best of all the angels. That human’s name is Abigail and she is about to throw these two angels for a loop.

This book did not wow me. There was never a moment where I considered putting the book down and I wanted to know how it ended, but I was not in love. Lots of things made me roll my eyes and I had a hard time believing many of the facts of Abigail’s life. It wasn’t until a character recited the old line “if you love something let it go” that I realized my issue with this book. It is cheesy. It is entertaining and funny, but cheesy. Especially in the last section where the action kind of slows and there’s a lot of dialogue. Reading these characters talking for pages, was just really difficult. I was glad when the action returned at the very end leading up to the obvious and yet completely shocking cliffhanger.

Another issue I have with the story is that I do not buy the CIA storyline. Not at all. Abby has a state of the art weapons training facility underneath her house. This training room or whatever has trick doors, elevators, lasers, an arsenal full of guns and agents who are there to be Abby’s adversaries in training simulations. I have watched enough Alias, Nikita and Homeland to know that this kind of facility is expensive. Manful tries to explain it away by making Abby’s mom a fashion designer. Listen, yes fashion designer's are rich, but 'I can build a 100 million dollar facility in my basement and not blink rich?’ No. Ok, maybe 100 mill is a bit of a stretch, but lasers are expensive!!!

I found the training center to be so unbelievable it made every reference to Abby’s training ridiculous. For example, there is a moment where she is pushed off of a balcony and lands on her feet. If the fall was high enough to kill her is it possible for her land on her feet without breaking her legs? I’m not a scientist or a doctor, but I don’t think so.

I didn’t love this book and there were moments that I absolutely did not like, but I will recommend it. Why? The world is extremely unique. The idea that the fight for our lives is not angel vs. demon, but angel vs. angel is fascinating to me. I thought Gideon and Tristan’s world was one of the most interesting take on Angels I’ve read. The ending reveals secrets and has actions that make me absolutely want to pick up the next book. I’d like to know the fate of the characters and how the revelations at the end, will effect the characters.

At the end of the day this book is not amazing and it is not one of a kind, but it is unique enough that you will enjoy it despite it’s many issues. Melody Manful is a brand new author. “Dominion” is her debut novel and you can feel that in the writing. Anyone who reads a lot, knows that an author’s craft grows with experience. I think we should support this writer and give her the chance to let her craft grow. Her ideas are just that good.

Recommended for readers of YA fiction, anyone who likes books like “Angelfall” and “A Shimmer of Angels.”

Dominion by Melody Manful
Series: Guardian Angels #1
Genre: Young Adult Paranormal Fantasy

There are two types of angels: Guardian Angels are assigned to one human (or enas) to help and protect them, Grandinian angels are assigned to a human to harm them. This is to maintain the balance between good and evil on the earth. However, Gideon is a Grandinian angel who doesn't follow the rules. Basically, he just kills everyone. Whenever he wants. Which is all the time because he's evil and feeds off death and suffering and everyone's terrified of him. However, this is a problem because it does not keep the balance so the King of Grands (the planet between earth and the underworld where grandinian angels live) assigns him to a human that is harder to kill. One who has a more powerful guardian angel that can protect his human better than the rest. This angel is Tristan. He is the opposite of Gideon. He heals and loves and helps. The human is Abigail and she's secretly trained by the CIA so that she can protect herself and her mother. Gideon accepts this assignment and it changes him... maybe. A little. I don't really know.

Things I liked about this book:
Let's see here. First impression – seems interesting. It's an intriguing, original take on the way over-done teen angel genre. I liked that the “bad angels” weren't 'fallen' or 'demons'. They were just the dark angels that weren't necessarily bad but were just there to keep the balance. I thought I was going to like Gideon but then everything went down hill.

Gideon randomly started killing innocent kids and I was like... wait a second... this guy is terrible. Where are his redeeming qualities? How are we supposed to like him? Ever? Things just seemed to happen very quickly. I have no idea how Abigail and Gideon fell in love. I have no idea how Abigail fell in love with Tristan either. or why that even in the story. It was just a mess. I feel like the author had a list of things she wanted in her book and just threw them all together and then wanted to hurry up and finish. A lot more editing would be helpful. Also, why is it called dominion?

Final Verdict: I'm not sure how I even found this book. I feel bad giving it a bad review because it is self published and all that but I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

I judged the book by its beautiful cover and that was a big mistake, the blurb did make it sound like a pretty decent read too- VERY misleading, I was thoroughly disappointed. I have a lot to say about this book so this review will be a rambled mess. I was so close to abandoning this book but I would have felt like I failed myself - plus I paid for it and I'm a tight ass.

The writing was very amateur (mistakes, awkward sentences etc.) I hated the way the whole thing was worded it irritated me so much. I felt as though the author thought I was a moron so everything had to be explained in the most simplest of ways. Also the quotes at the start of every chapter started to get annoying after chapter three. Thank you for pointing out which quotes you created and which ones Shakespeare did, I would have never been able to tell the difference in your writing.

Okay so Gideon is suppose to be some badass, evil angel, so can he please CUT THE SOPPY CRAP! If he is super hot you'd think he would have higher standards than some annoying, spoilt, rich girl human. Anyway I thought their angel identity was some huge secret? He exposed it to Abigail pretty quickly and what were the consequences of that? Nothing! (Well actually there might have been I was skimming the chapters at this point.) Him and Abigail were dropping the 'I love you' bomb like its going out of fashion (get it, cause her mums a fashion designer)

I actually thought the book started of well, it had the potential to be good (hence the two and not one stars) it just took the wrong direction. After a few chapters the book just went downhill and got worse as it progressed. Usually when I don't like a book I can see why people did but it isn't the case here. I really can not see how people enjoyed reading this.

Putting it bluntly I would never read this again not even if I was paid to do so. I do NOT recommend this book and I will NOT be reading any sequels, I was thankful when this book was over and I will not submit myself to that torture again!

Oh my captain underpants. Yes you read that right. This is how I looked by the end of the book 0.0
Christ this was an action packed book. And it had spikes of (oh so lovely) romance. Yes, I did finish this is one day. How I love the weekend ☺
I know what I'm about to say is strange but I actually like Tristan better than Gideon in this. Me falling for the angel instead of the demon? When does this EVER happen? I don't know either. Remember these two names while reading this book (cause you will read it): Sun and Moon
There's this girl and she's basically in WPP. Her dad is in the CIA and her mom is a fashion goddess. She's a prize fighter who cares too much and is very lonely. *sigh*
I'm just gonna do a character list
Abby- This is the girl who cares too much, can take down Army dudes fighting and is pretty bad ass. Oh, she's also the reason I don't like the ending to the story
Tristan- I really wish he got more face time in this book. Yes, I know I was supposed to fall for Gideon and his bad boy trying to turn good for the girl his universe revolves around way....but what can I say? He did the whole Ultimate Sacrifice thing. I love him.
Gideon- Yes okay! I like him! I don't love him, but I like him. I have a theory that I can't share with you cause it has a (I think) major spoiler. He's adorable, even when he wants to kill her and the whole need to be with her and kill anyone who even thinks about her.
shut up
The writing was actually really nice too. Flowed really well. Humm....Not much else I have to rant about.
Oh! The cover!
Although I adore it ( I really do ) I'd have liked to see real people posing the characters.
That's all for now!

Dominion is the first book in the Guardian Angels series by Melody Manful. Abigail is a teenager who has a vivid dream that she is murdered by someone named Gideon. Afterward, she can't place a face to the murderer in her dream. The next day at school, there are a couple of handsome new boys in her class, one of which is named Gideon.

Abigail fears Gideon when she first meets him, but can't help feeling attracted to him. There is actually a couple of heart throbs in this book – Gideon and Tristan. Gideon is the angel that wants to kill her and Tristan is the angel that is there to protect her. Tristan should be the obvious choice in this love triangle, right? Things aren't so simple though, and Abigail brings out a soft side that Gideon hadn't realized he had.

The concept of the story is good. The writing style though, is something that I think would appeal more to younger readers. I don't know if it was just my copy, because I know that most reviewers are giving this high star ratings, but I thought it was poorly edited. There were also many times that I was confused and didn't understand what was going on in the story. I was really confused by Sela's connection to Tristan and Gideon. The change in points of view seemed awkward. Normally, I like to see other character's thoughts, but every time I started a new chapter I wondered whose point of view I was reading from. I'd have to read a little way down the page before figuring it out.

I really liked the characters in this book, even the evil Gideon. There was an exciting climax at the end which resulted in a big cliffhanger. I'd be interested in reading the second book in this series to see what happens next.

I’m kind of on the fence about this book – there were a lot of things I didn’t like, and which were a bit stock standard, but there were also a lot of parts which were unique and made me want to keep reading. So. Things I didn’t like:

First, the characters. Apart from Gideon, whose internal struggles and thought processes were more 3D and realistic, I found Abby and Tristan to be cardboard cutouts rather than people I could relate to. Though I did enjoy Abby’s fits of bipolarity, where she ditched the sweet girl act and started pulling guns on everyone, Abby was a regular Mary Sue. Perfect, popular, friendly, a charity act. Yawn.

Second, the author liked to tell, rather than show. The reader is led to conclusions without any real building. Blink and you’ll miss the part where Abigail ignores everything she hates about Gideon and falls in love with him.

So should you read it? Well, if you don’t mind a lot of telling and not a lot of showing, flat characters and a very young target audience, then yeah. Because there are a lot of things to commend about this book.

It is not the typical angel story. It starts out like most angel books do, but the ending... where the hell did that come from? The book reads like a TV series, with one episode ending and another beginning, and in which there are about three plot changes. And that’s a GOOD thing. The moment I started getting bored the author brought in things like war, death, the Underworld and suddenly I was hooked again.

Will I read the second book? Possibly, but only because of that darn cliffhanger.

I wanted so badly to like this cause I'd been waiting so long for it to come out, and then....flop.

Pop goes the bubble of high expectation. You can actually hear said bubble deflating as I get further along, which is upsetting to me cause I hate giving low ratings and not liking a book I'm excited for!

Maybe it's cause I amped it up in my head too much, thinking about how awesome a story it would be. My hopes were to high, the good reviews, interesting summary, and 4 star rating must have biased me. Not that I didn't try, boy did I try to like this. I guess 'try try again' doesn't really apply in this case huh?

The concept and plot weren't all that bad, I think it really could have worked. Maybe it was just the execution, what with Gideon is going on about what a badass he is and how much he enjoys killing people and Tristan's all goody goody and Abigail is....well I didn't really have all that much of a problem with her. Then again I wasn't actually able to force myself to get through the whole thing so maybe I missed something. I got maybe 30% of the way till I just couldn't take it. The writing....ugh the writing, it was kinda like a mediocre fanfic. Seriously, did NO ONE edit this?

*Le sigh* Maybe I'll wait a couple of weeks, attempt forget about all this, and try to re-read it with an open mind, a blank slate if you will. Second times the charm right?

Oh wait...that's thrid time....hopefully it won't come to that.

"Beware of the angels you invite in, for some are only demons in disguise."

Oh, holy fucking Hades. This book was simply breath taking. Of course, there the occasional flaws, and there's the times where I wanted nothing but to smack Abigail at the head---especially at the ending, but put those aside, and you'll get a brilliant new take on guardian angels. You think that the cover seems cliche? Or that this is just another one of those books with a 'mary-sue'-ish damsel in distress with a stupid love triangle? Well, think again, fellow reader.

The characters are all strong and unique in their own way and I think that the plot was well thought and well crafted. Of course, I really don't like the ending because of particular reasons, but still, the book was a brilliant read. I think the author did a great job with her first novel. Though there needs to be more character development, who can not like this book, especially with the quotes at the beginning? I think they're fairly apt to each and every chapter, really.

Also, the book may be a little confusing to others and what not, but hopefully, we'll get more answers in the second book. I already love the truth and concept about Tristan and Gideon, a.k.a the sol and luna thing. (Sorry, I just prefer these words more than moon and sun, hah.) And it is the main reason why i'm itching to get my hands on the next book. Good job, Miss Manful!
