It was one of the first chinese web novels I've read and it's the reason why I got into xianxia and xuanhuan genre and quick transmigration trope. The main characters started a fight and messed up the red knots of fate. As punishment they need to reincarnate 7 times. It had the balance between comedy and tragedy. I knew that they don't really die, but I still was heartbroken sometimes. I especially felt moved by first and last story. There was also a lot of bickering and funny situations. Sometimes one of them didn't drink the soup of forgetfullness or one of them drank too much and became stupid. It always changed the dynamic of their relationships so it was interesting to follow. I still feel sentimenal about this short story, so I'll give it 4,5/5

Synopsis of "Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes, All Thanks to a Single Moment of Impulse" NU:
Xiao Xiang Zi, a cloud spirit In heaven, and Chu Kong mess up the red strings of fate by accident during their brawl.

As a consequence they are sentenced to be a fated couple in the mortal realm for 7 lifetimes as a punishment for not getting along with each other.

However Xiang Zi sneakily reincarnates without erasing her memory, and unlike Chu Kong, she retains awareness and uses it to her advantage.

I loved this story. I think my favorite life time was the first one. Bittersweet, but it left the most emotional impact on me.

Partly the reason why I liked it because the main guy seemed to be more aware of his feelings after that life time. He definitely chased her first all due to her changing "fate" that the Heavens bestowed on her. She was suppose to "chase the husband" and was suppose to "die first", but due to her not wanting the Heavenly Emperor to control her fate, she changed her fate. Also, if you have to asked me who fell for who first, I think the main guy did first. But he was too stubborn to admit his feelings first and so she had to be the one to give in and make him admit it too. The scene where he finally admits his feelings is very adorable and spicy. XD He sure is tsundere and he's definitely not romantic, but his face can't hide his emotions when he's in love. The ending was adorable and I enjoyed the story better than I expected. I was expecting a lot of heart ache due to the "seven unfortunate lifetimes", so I knew what I was getting into.


I liked that the author put more dept into the characters emotions which brought out lots of emotions for the readers to sympathized for both main leads each lifetimes they had died or lived. Also for those that said the female lead is like a monkey, she's really not. I find her character to be interesting because she actually isn't a "docile" female lead that will follow the whims fate has laid on her. I didn't like the 2nd life story as much as the first because of how her brained worked that life time, but that wasn't her fault. The main guy fed her too much forgetfulness soup, so it resulted her to be a bit dumb that life time. Can't blame her for hating her "stupid" version of herself that life time. The main girl does have a brain and knows how to use it, she also admits she's not smart in the love department but that doesn't make her dumb. She realizes her emotions and accepts them too later on in the story.

Although she uses her fist on the male lead, she does it for a reason. The main guy says some really hateful sh*t which makes me want to punch him sometimes too, but he learns and changes in a better way after meeting and spending time with her. His heart also softens and he learns to love because of her. Although he doesn't like admitting that he gets jealous when other men touch or talk to her, he accepts that he does love her eventually causing him to not want to part with her every time she dies. I also like that she's pretty straight forward and doesn't hide behind a bush about herself. She's not a fox in sheep clothing and will tell the main guy straight in his face what she really thinks. Also her questioning the guy right in front of his face asking him if he really likes her makes it even more amusing because she knows she's "thick-skinned" trying to get the main lead to admit he likes her. Although he doesn't sugarcoat it, he does eventually tells her in a funny way that makes me even flabbergasted the way he said it (which happens in a scene where it's done in a special way - the scene I said above about the "spicy" scene). Their relationship is a typical bickering couple, but with these trials you see that there's more too just a bickering couple. She's a sly cunning lady (also stubborn) and he's a stubborn man with a bad tongue, but together they make each other. They learn to love through these trials and with time they have bloomed into a cute couple that can't live without each other that was first formed by their hate for each other. I'm glad they got married in the end. Only sad thing I can say after this story ended was that I wanted to read more sweet moments between the two, but because the ending was satisfying I'm okay with it.

If you haven't read this story yet, go on ahead and dwell into a roller coaster of emotions! It's a story you won't regret reading and will love just as much as I did.

I think this author is at her best when writing short novels that are somehow comedic, cute but also angsty and a bit romantic, with reincarnation thrown in. I enjoyed this super quick read. The hero and the heroine are so cute together.

I spent my childhood watching Chinese dramas and movies, so I might be biased.. But I definitely love this!

This is a story of two heavenly being: Xiao Xiang Zi and Chu Kong, one is a cloud spirit, female disciple of Love and Marriage god (you know, the one who tangled red strings on human), and one is disciple of Morningstar god (responsible for sun and other stars).
One day, they met for the first time ever, and somehow ended up brawling and messed up the tangle of red strings of fate. Thus they get punished to be soulmates in seven lifetimes. And that's the start of their silly, heartwarming romance.

The thing I love about Asian romance books is, they are so 'whole' in comparison with their western counterpart. You get to experience a whole range of emotions, from hilarity to despair, from wistfulnes to total madness. If any of you ever watched K-Drama, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

Actually this is not the first Chinese webnovel I've tried to read, but this is the first one that I finished, since the story is very interesting and the novel isn't 2763586 chapters long (yes, 70% of Chinese webnovel are sooooo long you get bored reading them).

I can't say that everyone would take on this novel as smooth as I did, but this is definitely a good book to start if you ever want to read Chinese novel. Also, it's available free online since it's a webnovel, and someone even translated the whole book already!
This book is like a taste of how Chinese see the world, a glimpse of cultural beliefs that shape their minds. It's not how they live these days (for modern society Chinese lit try Love 1O1 or stories by Chestnut), but it contains one of the foundations of their views today.

since it's my first xianxia cnovel i don't know how to rate it
it was a fun, light read (nothing deep) that made me laugh at times and also made me tear up sometimes when i didn't expect it.

the first time i felt something strong in this novel was when he took out his heart out to save her i was not expecting myself to tear up but that moment and then she jumped down the mountain with his body ahh and loved the concept that the story was supposed to be wife chasing her husband but opposite happened in all the lifetimes

i wasn't really sure which was my fav lifetime out of all 7 until i reached lu hai kong's special chapter that was just the best out of the novel, him being miserable after her death and the way he still talked about her made me love him so much. well, if i could i would highlight the whole chapter

"Lu Hai Kong only felt defeated. He lost to the haunting person in his heart."

"The promise between song yun xiang and lu hai is not a thing to hold in palms of the hands. She is wrapped in my bones. Does uncle want to cut out all of my bones and become a crippled person?

It was a cute and fun read~ I enjoyed the dynamic between Chu Kong and Xiang Zi, it was quite refreshing as I've not really read a novel where both leads were a bit immature and quite childish at times, but I think it helped in seeing their growth from the beginning to the end, which I really liked.

I do feel the main villain should've maybe been hinted longer or fleshed out better (it felt like a random insert for like the last 5-10% of the novel)

The drama based off this novel is one of my favourites, so it surprised me that they are only like 20% is similar - not just storyline but the characters (including personality) were quite different. So it did take some getting used to~ regardless it was a cute read~

“Seven unfortunate lifetimes: all due to a moment of impulse” es una novela china relativamente corta que consta de cincuenta y un capítulos y tres historias extras. El plot es sencillo y humorístico, no entra en profundos argumentos aunque fue muy bien desarrollado. La narración ocurre en primera persona y en general, la lectura termina siendo un lindo viaje narrativo.

La historia se centra en Xiao Xiang Zi, un hada de las nubes, y el dios celestial Chu Kong, quienes por una pelea terminan enredando los hilos rojos del destino de los humanos (esos que según la mitología china y japonesa atan a los amantes predestinados) y son castigados a compartir siete vidas amorosas como mortales. Una sinopsis sencilla con un desarrollo simple, constantemente cargada de humor pero a la vez tragedia y ambientada en la mitología china que concierne los conceptos del cielo, el infierno, el inframundos y los dioses. Debo advertir que pese a que, como comenté al inicio, el argumento no llega a ser tan profundo, durante la mayoría de las vidas de los protagonistas se observan sacrificios interpersonales y hechos muy emotivos, en especial durante la primera vida la cual en mi opinión creo que es la más significativa para los personajes debido a que en esta vida es en la que ellos realmente se enamoran uno del otro.

Los protagonistas y el resto de los personajes desde el inicio son muy bien plasmados. Creo que CK es el de mayor impacto en toda la historia debido al crecimiento como personaje que se observa en él desde el inicio; caso contrario a XXZ, quien solamente en el último arco la vemos verdaderamente tomar las riendas y madurar quizás acá influya el hecho que ella hizo trampa al momento de reencarnar la primera vez al no beber la sopa del olvido y en consecuencia conservó todas sus memorias como inmortal durante su primera vida humana.

El final fue conciso y quizás algo apresurado pero en resume se puede decir que se atan todos los cabos sueltos en relación a la historia principal. Con respecto a las tres historias extras, dos de ellas las encontré sumamente curiosas y diferentes a lo que uno esperaría honestamente de las historias extras debido a que una se enfoca en la versión primaria del protagonista luego de la muerte abrupta de la protagonista y la otra en el avance hacia el futuro que da en su nueva vida uno de los personajes secundarios más relevantes bastante reflexiva con el tema de dejar ir el pasado lo que la convierte en una nostálgica lectura. La otra historia extra se enfoca en los protagonistas y termina de concluir la historia de ambos de manera feliz.

Desde ya advierto que en NINGUNA de las vidas como mortales que tienen los protagonistas, ellos logran vivir una historia de amor. Siendo sincera, la mayoría de las vidas terminaba en la muerte abrupta de la protagonista (y en algunos casos cruel, como al final de la vida de la princesa) y el protagonista quedando sumamente devastado por ello pese a saber que igualmente reencarnarían (hasta derivan traumas, lo cual se refleja en su desagrado por la nieve luego de la primera vida debido a que la protagonista murió sobre esta en esa vida). No tuve una vida favorita como tal, de todas hubo hechos que me gustaron, como la vez en que reencarnaron en los géneros opuestos y el protagonista experimentó el dolor de la menstruación.

Fun leads, although I found that the female lead didn’t really develop as a character. I still feel like we got to know quite little about her growth compared to the male lead.
Nonetheless, the way they complimented eachother was remarkable! I loved the way the author described their kisses, kekekeke 😌❣️

Thanks to the translator rosyfantasy for such a good reading experience. Her translations were trustworthy; despite of this book apparently being her first translation project!

Okay 3 quick reasons why you should read seven unfortunate lifetimes:

1. The relationship develops from “i cant stand you get away SHOO” to “i dont like being stuck together with you for the foreseeable future but well” to “stop… dying for me… its getting weird” to “why do i like you so much ew” AND ITS SO CUTE YALL

2. JLFX is the best at writing several lifetime angst, so every bit thats supposed to hit does HIT

3. The plot doesnt get repetitive. A lot of these multiple lives stories start to get stale after a while but since you only get 7 lifetimes (and 3 of them are technically one life if you look at it that way), theyre all super interesting

I can reread this a million times and still like it so read it NOW GO

4th lifetime is probably my most favorite one. I also really liked the last life as well. Overall it’s a nice short novel. ML was too rude to her throughout and I wish he became more gentle with her like in his first life. But he did kinda improve later in the novel. Overall, it's a nice light read. I wonder how the cdrama will play this out.

看过很多九鹭非香的小说，这部是我比较不喜欢的。嘻哈、轻松、搞笑都没事，就是从头到尾都没觉得男女主有CP感，没那个火花，到现在还不知道他们为什么会爱上对方。这部小说有点像【三生，忘川无殇】，也是以下凡历劫，几世情缘为题材。但是【三生】里的主角就很有情侣缘，我还看了两遍。

故事很輕鬆，兩方都有點橫衝直撞的感覺，可以想像成多次BE集結成的HE。繁體電子書上面簡繁翻譯有點小小問題，像是「幹嘛」在書中翻成「幹麼」、欲慾不分等。另外，後半提到「神君」的稱謂，只是提到跟以前的老師有關，但是直到最後還是沒有解釋清楚稱謂的問題。

Hacía tanto que no actualizaba que se me quedaron libros a medias.
Esta novela estaba bien. Empezaba muy potente, con personajes que no buscaban agradar al lector pero que lo conseguían con una historia atípica en la que los protagonistas se van enamorando a su pesar a medida que tratan de evitar cumplir su castigo de vivir 7 historias de amor trágicas.

Tengo curiosidad por ver si en la serie que dicen que van a hacer a partir de ella respetará la historia tal y como es, porque no creo que pueda hacerse sin ciertas adaptaciones que inevitablemente cambiarán la historia.

I liked it, but not as much as I liked "Three Lives, Death Exists Not at the River of Oblivion."

While it involves the same issue (the main characters living through different lifetimes with each other), I felt like the other novel did a better job with it.

Xiao Xiang Zi, who is as dense as Sansheng in terms of love and common sense, was not as likable as Sansheng. Maybe it's because Sansheng was literally a rock (and thus has more reason to be dense), I didn't like how Xiao Xiang Zi never really grew as a character throughout the story. She remained headstrong and oblivious to the end, even though it was clear that she should have learned a lot. But at least she didn't fail Chu Kong in the end.

Chu Kong, my boyyyyyyyyyyy, goddamn. This is what I call character development. He goes from being a hot-headed and rude to being a mature and dependable, all while falling head over heels for the foolish Xiao Xiang Zi. My favorite version of Chu Kong is Princess Kong, because he calmly suffered what all women suffer (but worse). And it was very nice to see Chu Kong acting like a pretentious princess with a trail of servants behind him.

This novel was a lot more hilarious than Sansheng (which was a total feels-train that turned me into a sobbing mess) due to the circumstances Xiao Xiang Zi and Chu Kong dragged each other into. They went from "I hate your stupid guts" to "Okay, I hate you, but we have to work together" to "I still hate you but you can't die in front of me" to "Goddammit why do I feel things for you" to "FINE, SO I LOVE YOU AFTER ALL".

The minor plot at the end of the story was a bit meh, mainly because I cared nothing for Zihui, Ah Lou, or Jin Jian.

To end this review, it was a nice, short novel.
