Derrick, Samantha and Michael should be in school. Instead they find themselves in NASA's space shuttle, which Nanny Piggins manages to accidentally launch, blasting them all into outer space. This time she has gone too far! In this thrilling fourth instalment of her adventures, Nanny Piggins wrestles with a crocodile, bungy jumps of the roof using the elastic from Mr Green's underpants, staples chicken wire over their chimney to keep out Santa, captures an apricot danish-loving jewel thief and rescues her brother, Boris, from an onslaught of professional wrestlers.
It's been a while since I laid eyes on a Nanny Piggins book...They are always a treat to read!! I love the over the top, easy reading style that Spratt easily pens on each and every page. The adventures that Nanny Piggins has is just a brilliant way to click off from the outter world as her's is so silly but wonderful because you get a wonderfully painted picture in your head while you get to laugh at the adult humour too (if you're an adult reading the book).
In this book I felt the stories were a little seperated almost like they were short stories BUT they did have a theme going through a few of the chapters with Mr.Green (the kids father) being more important than usual.
You'll read about Nanny Piggins getting blasted into space, apricot danishes, Piggins sisters, how to stop Santa (or not) and many more adventures. If you're looking for a giggle with your kids or even just for a good light hearted read then pick this up. A nanny as a pig sounds awfully fun especially one who loves chocolate cake as much as Piggins does!!
I read this out loud to my 11yo daughter (something rarely requested now) and god it was hilarious and great to laugh along together. I found myself trying not to slip into RA Spratt’s wonderful voice, after listening to her podcasts many times over. Nanny Piggins is the biggest, boldest, most caring nanny character you can imagine and the world created around her is gorgeous. Highly recommend.
Perfect choice to start off summer read aloud together. We love them, the chapters are each their own adventure. Every time, I think how is this going to turn out and she always surprises me. Plus… we all laugh so much including me. Also—- so fun to read aloud with all the accents!
Nanny Piggins, I adore you. You are a random and kooky mix of Amelia Bedelia and Mary Poppins in glamorous retired circus pig form. Your mischief makes the world a more joyful place for me and my students. Can't wait for American releases of your antics, so more adventures from Australia it is! :-)
The love affair with this series continues in our household. My children continue to beg me for more. I don't mind, because this author is seriously brilliant and somehow manages to keep me as entertained as my children.
Nanny Piggins is the best!!!! Although I did not care for the chapter where she is kicked out of the library (we would never kick her out of my library), I quite enjoyed the rest of her adventures!!!!!
This is our go to series as a family right now in the car. Stand alone stories in chapters make it easy to jump in but then if we don’t listen for a while it’s good.
Always full cleaver story telling and problem solving. By far my favorite one was the battle of the steel chef! Funny stuff people. Unfortunately we are all caught up on the audios that they have release so far.
Nanny Piggins stories are great read aloud stories with kids! We especially love listening to the audiobooks read by the author, R. A. Spratt. These are great for long road trips!
Nanny Piggins is still totally awesomely ridiculous. My only disappointment is that this book could have spent more time combining my two favorite things: Nanny Piggins and outer space. They really didn't do much in space and I wish there had been more hijinks there.
