During the 14th century, the Shaivites and Vaishnavites were put through a lot of turmoil due to the innumerable conquests of the Mughals. It was their mission, even at the cost of their lives, to safeguard their idols. During this period, the idol of Nataraja, the Dancing God, went missing in the great temple- town of Thillai, but was later recovered. Based on this incident, the author, Anusha Venkatesh has spun an imaginary fictional account of how the idol was lost and then recovered.

Author. R.Venketesh is a Chennai Based Bilingual Novelist from India. South Indian Historical Fiction is his forte.

He has Published 3 novels in Tamil (pen name: Anusha Venkatesh | அனுஷா வெங்கடேஷ்), 2 of them are Sequel to famous Kalki's novels Ponniyin Selvan and Sivagamiyin Sabatham respectively Kaviri Mainthan (காவிரி மைந்தன்) and Kanji Tharagai (காஞ்சி தாரகை). And his another fictional work is Thillayil Oru Kollaikaran (தில்லையில் ஒரு கொள்ளைக்காரன்).

காவிரி மைந்தன் படித்த பிறகு, ஏனோ அனுஷா வெங்கடேஷின் புத்தகங்களின் மேல் அவ்வளவு பிரியம் வர மறுத்தது. அதனால் என்னவோ, படித்த முடித்த பிறகும் கூட இந்தப் புத்தகத்தின் மேலும் பெரிதாய் பற்றுதல் வரவில்லை.
நிறை என்பது வெகு சில இடங்களில் மட்டுமே தென்பட்டது. தளர்வாய்ப் பின்னப்பட்ட கதையில் ஒரு பாத்திரத்தில் கூட எனக்கு பிடிப்பு ஏற்படவில்லை. கதை ஓட்டத்தின் பல இடங்களில் வெறுமை நின்று தாண்டவமாடியது. இன்னும் பல சுவாரசியங்களை அனுஷா அவர்கள் சேர்ததிருந்தால் இந்நூல் இன்னும் அருமையாக வந்திருக்கும். எழுத்தாளர் முன்னுரையில் "வரலாறு குறீிப்பு இல்லாமல் இருப்பது நாவலுக்கு பெரும் சுதந்திரத்தை கொடுக்கும், கதையை நமக்கு ஏற்ப திரிக்கலாம்" என்று கூறி விட்டு.... அதனை செயல் படுத்தாமல் ஏனோ விட்டுவிட்டார்....
மொத்தத்தில், ஒரு சாதாரணப் புத்தகம் படிக்கும் அனுபவமே இதனால் ஏற்படுமே அன்றி, சரித்திர நாவல் படித்த களிப்பு ஏற்படா..

காவிரி மைந்தன் ஆசிரியரின் அடுத்த படைப்பு. கண்டிப்பாக பொன்னியின் செல்வன் வாசகர்களுக்கு பிடிக்கும்படி அதன் தொடர்ச்சி எழுதுவது மிகக் கடினம். ஆனால் ஏறக்குறைய அதை சிறப்பாக செய்துள்ளார். கடுவனின் கருத்தை நான் மறுக்கிறேன். கண்டிப்பாக வாசிக்க வேண்டிய ஒரு வித்தியாசமான புத்தகம் இது. வெறும் ஆள்பவர்களின் வழி வரலாற்றை விட்டு விட்டு ஆளப்பட்டவர்களின் வழி வரலாற்றை காண்போம்.
