This was an interesting read with some odd examples of client's charts that I found it a little hard to relate to. The author definitely knows a lot about her topic, and I trust her insight, but I thought many of her clients sounded mentally ill. Hall does admit that some of her clients do have mental illness but it made it harder for me to trust the client's observations and how they related to their astrology charts. Beyond that I think this would be confusing unless the reader had a lot of experience with astrology, which is strange, b/c the author goes over the Pluto house and sign placements at the very end--but I think all of the chapters beforehand almost assume that the reader has some deeper astrology knowledge already.

Anyone with a good amount of astrological knowledge (to the point where you understand aspects and transits) might enjoy this if they have a hard Pluto aspect in their chart. I think I came away with a deeper knowledge on the subject.

It was a good read. Kind of long. As someone who has an intermediate knowledge on astrology, this was a good book. I learned a lot of new things about my hades moon. Some of the examples were kind of extreme and intense. I couldn’t resonate with a lot of them (but that could be due to my libra moon sextile Pluto, making the hades moon themes a little easier for me). Also, I kinda felt myself get lost at times while reading. Regardless, it was nice to read the examples & apply bits & pieces to my own life experiences. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who has moon-Pluto in their birth chart or anyone who simply loves astrology and wants to dig deeper into this particular aspect.

This is an interesting topic to explore astrologically and I'm convinced of the author's astrological chops, but as I read, I'm reminded of some of my graduate school work when I was aware of the fact that I was stretching my examples to support my thesis. Sometimes, while reading this book, I feel like rolling my eyes - feeling like she could point to pretty much any dysfunctional life/family situation, look at the charts and connect the Pluto/Moon placements to fit the example, then comfortably cross her arms and pronounce, "You see... Pluto-moon is responsible for this..." This sounds cynical I know, but I have read enough books where the astrologer/author points to psychological/behavioral issues and personality traits in real life then makes some generalized statements about how these issues are reflected in the chart.

Not only are some of the supportive astrological arguments flimsy but the author's scholarship on philosophical matters is questionable. Making the claim that Hitler learned his virulent hatred of Jews from Nietzsche is an outrageous claim. Much has been written about Nietzsche's views on Judaism and antisemitism and it's just not that simple. While the Nazis claimed Nietzsche as an antisemitic precursor to their agenda to rid Germany of the Jews there are also scholarly works showing that he was anti-antisemitism and a defender of Jews in the face of rampant antisemitism. This kind of statement makes me question the credibility of the author's claims throughout the text. An astrologer making claims about the racial animus of a long dead philosopher that he never explicitly espoused is absurd.

I really wish books about astrology were better edited. So many issues with this book could have been avoided with the help of a good editor.

Having the Moon in Scorpio is seen as both tough and deeply rewarding. Scorpio is influenced by Pluto, which adds a strong, intense energy to this placement. This makes the emotions very powerful, often hidden, and sometimes overwhelming. People with this Moon sign feel things deeply and are drawn to exploring intense topics like power, death, and taboo areas of life. They often go through big emotional ups and downs, which can lead to personal growth and healing.

However, this Moon placement can also bring challenges. People with a Scorpio Moon might struggle with trust, holding onto past hurts, jealousy, and fear of being vulnerable. They often keep their emotions tightly controlled, but when they do let them out, it can be explosive. If they don’t express these feelings, they might internalize them, leading to emotional or even physical breakdowns. But if they learn to navigate these intense emotions, they can achieve deep self-awareness and transformation.

In relationships, a Scorpio Moon can lead to obsessive or controlling behavior, especially if they’re not aware of their deeper emotional patterns. They fear losing love and may go to great lengths to hold onto it. However, when they approach relationships consciously, they can experience deep emotional and even spiritual connections. They are fiercely loyal but can also be possessive and jealous.

This Moon placement often stems from childhood experiences of feeling abandoned, rejected, or controlled, especially by a dominant or overbearing mother figure. These early wounds can create a fear of being overwhelmed or devoured by others, leading to a tendency to keep people at a distance. Healing involves revisiting these past traumas and understanding how they shape current behaviors.

People with a Scorpio Moon are highly intuitive and can sense others’ true feelings, but they may struggle to trust their own instincts, especially if they were told their feelings were “wrong” as children. Over time, they can learn to embrace this intuitive side, using it as a tool for healing and self-discovery.

Ultimately, the Scorpio Moon seeks intensity and transformation. It craves emotional depth and empowerment, often leading to a journey of self-exploration and growth. While it can be a challenging placement, it also holds the potential for profound healing and personal evolution.

Amazing content and personal stories about what it's like to live with and work to heal an underworld Moon placement. Although it's very long and tends toward disorganization in ways, it's invaluable at understanding a very deep and unconscious subject.
