Torn: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Rate this book
Warning - Author's Note! This is the second edition of this book! The first edition was published three years ago and although it had some fabulous reviews, there were flaws reported by the readers which have been remedied in this second edition. This new version brings significant changes:

The addition of approx. 20 K words at the end of the story, focused on Elizabeth and Darcy’s tender, sweet reconnection.
A much shorter period of time for ODC’s reunion.
A new cover and professional editing

This book is written using UK spelling and phrasing

Note 2: Lory Lilian has a golden rule when it comes to Jane Austen fan fiction: Elizabeth and Darcy only belong to each other, with no one to separate them. This story might appear to break this rule, but the author kindly asks the readers to trust her. “TORN” might tear your heart out but Elizabeth and Darcy will surely find a way to put it back.

Book description:
“TORN” is a romantic, Regency “Pride and Prejudice” Variation, full of angst and drama, filled with emotions. A story about different types of love, about honour and loyalty, about one’s own happiness and that of others.
The road to “Happily Ever After” is set with obstacles to overcome, making the journey more arduous for our beloved characters—and for the readers.
Divided by pride, prejudice, and misunderstandings, betrayed by their temper and wounded by vanity, Elizabeth and Darcy take separate paths in the heat of anger—and are tormented when they must reap what they have sown.
Darcy struggles to avoid the woman he loves most ardently, but fate keeps bringing them together. Elizabeth’s thoughts wander to Mr Darcy and, even in his absence, her feelings improve, until she realises he is the only man in the world with whom she could be truly happy. Such revelations come too late when both are bound by promises to others. Can they live a lifetime torn between love and duty?
Stealing a moment of passion one hot summer night, how can Elizabeth and Darcy continue without each other after tasting the delight of being together?
There are no real “villains” in this story to interfere between ODC, there is nobody for the readers to blame and to hate. Elizabeth and Darcy’s deep, powerful love is mutually acknowledged but they are still kept apart by their excellent characters, their honour and by promises they have made to the benefit of others. They are loyal to each other, but not selfish enough to be disloyal to those who need them.
Eventually, they will find the strength to satisfy their desires and to reach the well-deserved fulfilment of their passionate love, while continuing to generously use their influence and wealth.

The story is rated ‘Moderate’ for hot romance but not descriptive sex scenes.

second edition

I am happy to say the changes made from the first edition to this second edition added greatly to the story. It is not often readers have some say in a story and I’m glad to say the author did well in incorporating ideas that enhanced the story. Very fun.

I would give this ten stars ********** if I could

Lory Lilian only managed to improve on perfection in my opinion, since I loved the first version of her book. Yet it was improved. She has given us so much more to love the story for. This is a story requiring heavy hanky usage. The heartbreaking angst. The joyous HEA.

Highly recommended for all P&P variation fans, and yes, for those who have already read the first version.

I have read this book before and enjoyed it very much. The author has tweaked it, added new material, and corrected grammatical errors. It is a wonderful love story, a variation of the original Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. In this variation, Elizabeth and Darcy do not meet again until after Jane and Bingley are married and Darcy is engaged to Anne. They meet briefly at Pemberly, but Darcy leave almost the second she and the Bingley's arrive. Elizabeth makes Georgiana's and Anne' acquaintances and forms fast and lasting friendships. Elizabeth had wanted to talk to Darcy to apologize and tell him she had been wrong. But it was not to be. So when the Bingleys leave for London, Elizabeth returns with them, feeling that she has lost any opportunity to even be friends with Darcy. In London, she makes other acquaintances, and her life moves on a path that does not include Darcy.

There are some characters in this sweet, poignant tale, and of course, some old, unsavory characters, as well. I loved everything about this beautiful, angsty tale.

Perfect title for this book

ODC is torn—torn between propriety and inclination, desire and duty, what needs to be said, what doesn’t get said, and what can’t be said. Yes, that’s a lot of angst, and a HEA is in the forecast, but however will they get there? Best parts? Lady Elizabeth Alveston’s superb dealings with Caroline Pemberton nee Bingley and with Mr Wickham. How satisfying to be in a position to say what she thinks and follow through.

Lots of Angst

Wow, I’m not one for angst, but this story was terrific. It’s well written and enjoyable. I just physically felt for ODC the whole timeit was gut wrenching until we got to the happily ever after.

I loved it!

Warning! This is the second edition of this book! The first edition was published in 2019 and although it had some fabulous reviews, there were flaws reported by the readers which have been remedied in this second edition. This addition has more added at the end of the story.

Caution! This story is rated ‘Moderate’ for hot romance but not descriptive sex scenes.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. This story might tear your heart out but Elizabeth and Darcy will surely find a way to put it back. This is a romantic, Regency story that is full of angst and drama, filled with emotions. What a joy

Darcy and Elizabeth start as usual but their lives take a turn for the unexpected. Darcy proposes to Anne and Elizabeth marries an Earl.
Neither is happy but Elizabeth is wealth, well connected, known in town as Lady So and So and more beautiful than ever.
Darcy never stops loving her. But when all seem lost, felicity finds them again and they pick up where they left off.
Excellent read, some angst, some annoying characters such as Miss Bingley and Wickham but nothing out of the ordinary.
Darcy is swoon worthy…

And Lory Lilian is a brilliant writer - her characters, her dialog, her stories - her imagination never falters. I look forward to reading everything she writes.

Choices

Time encompasses roads not taken, regrets, and responsibilities before Our Dear Couple are free to find love. A heartwarming tale of longing and honor, passion and patience. The non-canon characters add a new twist as things eventually work out for good.
