"I'm an Aries. We don't submit." "I'm a Leo. Wanna bet?"
Destiny Blake senses that her boredom with blond pretty boys is about to come to a flesh-tingling end. Since her first love left her for a more experienced Domme, she's honed her topping skills to a fine edge. Yet the idea of bottoming for the hard-bodied owner of her favorite BDSM club is an erotic challenge she can't resist.
Destiny isn't Johnny Delcorral's type. Tangling with her, even for one night, is a dangerous proposition for a man with good reason for needing his women submissive. But he suspects she's hiding a submissive streak under her dreadlocks and leather, and he hungers to make her obey-and curb her reckless spirit.
The battle is on, both in the bedroom and out. Under Johnny's knowing hands, she is dismayed to discover she's enjoying submission more than she cares to admit. And Johnny finds himself relishing her defiance instead of curbing it-and fighting a growing unease with his inability to find her boundaries.
Until one night he pushes one step too far-and comes hard up against the one boundary he never expected to find.
Warning: This book contains naked power struggles, sexually charged spankings, kink from chains to canes, an Upstairs sex club, a hot m/f/m menage, and absolutely everything the title promises.
A really good BDSM erotica story, I just wished it could have been longer. The characters were well-formed and likeable, they could have easily carried out a full-length novel and their backstories were interesting. If anything, I just felt the story had so much unexplored potential and deserved at least another 100 pages.
It's quite a unique take on the D/s lifestyle and challenges issues about labels, sexuality and love. I found myself caught up in the whirlwind of sexcapades and erotic romance, and I loved how the two main characters found a hidden part of themselves in each other (please excuse that phrase but that's the best way I could think to put it). I've often found that when authors try to make a romance out of erotica they fall miserably on their face and just bore the hell out of their readers, but there was no sense of that here. I wanted the characters to be together and have a happy ending just as much as I wanted them to have really kinky sex.
One of the best things about this kind of BDSM is that, in my opinion, the author took it just far enough without crossing the boundaries into stuff that just grosses me out. Leather, whips, chains and spanking is all good... blood and faeces never will be. This book stays within the realms of 'sexy' and out of 'disturbing'.
Now I'm just hoping we see a lot more from Miranda Baker as this story was very promising. Fingers crossed for the future, I'll be keeping my eyes open on the lookout.
This book did nothing for me. Well, I lied. The way the business was run was interesting and is helping me with my business plan to open a BDSM club for my MBA class project. The characters themselves didn't do it for me at all. The scenes were glossed over and stunted. The resolution was too quick.
I didn't enjoy the story line. The character development was weak and not believable. I felt no emotional connection with any of the characters nor did I really care about them. The author could have done more. It was more of a telling rather than a showing which is what I think bothered me. The constant changing POV created an abruptness which I didn't enjoy either.
After reading an emotional "Anchored" and a lengthy developed "Make me, Sir", this book could not compete. I should have read this first.
I see this is the first book for the author. She has potential. It's a decent start. My recommendation for her is to go to several BDSM clubs and experience some of these first hand, it will help enhance her scenes. And if she has experienced these first hand, then she needs to be a bit more graphic and not shy away from details. The scenes felt watered down. Just when we get to the part where I think it's going to be good, it's over.
I thought this was a great book! It was a little different from the typical story line. The heroine, Destiny is a Domme who just plays in the scene without a regular sub since her previous one ditched her for a more experienced master. Since being left, she has perfected her skills and has a reputation for being a strict Domme and for rough play. So, she doesn't understand when her body treacherously reacts to notorious Dom and BDSM club owner, Johhny when he asks to top her... Huh? No, no, no...SHE is a Domme, she doesn't bottom--or does she? Her body says otherwise. Without much convincing, she agrees to give it a go as a sub and is shocked at what she learns about herself in the process.
I very much enjoyed the chemistry between Johnny and Destiny. Of course, they both have their hang-ups and skeletons--but what story would be complete without a little conflict? This was a first for me by this author and you had better believe I am going back for more!
A female Dom experiencing ennui with the scene that night, accepts the offer..dare..challenge to bottom the Magnetic Bar owner. The resulting scene is intense and sexy as hell and throws both of them for a loop. The result was a really great story.
I deducted one star because the issues Johnny had for some time seemed like the sort where therapy instead of BDSM would've worked wonders lol. And during a period of separation Destiny claims to make serious personal discoveries, that we're told not shown; which felt rushed.
Not my thing. In the beginning, i saw this as a storyline similar to Ice Queen.
Im not sure how to even write a review on this. All i can say it that I didn't hate it. There were a few parts that made me laugh. This story had the potential to be emotionally taxing. It just fell short of the expectations i had.
An enjoyable, although a short, read. It takes on a bit of a different take on the BDSM theme than other books out there. Destiny is a Domme and agrees to sub for Johnny, the club owner, for a night. She is shocked when she discovers how much she actually enjoys to bottom for him and learns a lot about herself in the process.
Like I said, the book is fairly short, the characters both have their own background stories, which could have been delved into much deeper, had this been a full length book. Both Destiny and Johnny do grow throughout the story though, and are as characters well formed.
Johnny did tend to annoy me though. Because his high school girlfriend had acted like a reckless teenager - and not listened to him him! - and died in the process, he since has "liked his girls obedient and always had, ever since his girlfriend's reckless defiance had gotten her killed." Note, that it was her defiance of him, and not her just doing something dumb (that kids do tend to do), that had gotten her killed. Also, this seems something that would better have been better dealt with with therapy than with BDSM …
The other thing that bothered me was this little passage:
The sight of him [Johnny] on his knees was ridiculous, almost offensive.
Why is it so offensive for her? In the beginning of the book she fantasized about this exact thing. So why is it so "ridiculous" for him to kneel in front of her now? My aversion to this sentence might also stem from the fact, that the almost exact same thing was said in FSoG (when Christian kneeled in front of Anna) and it already bothered me then as well, so I don't know, but it really annoyed me, that it would be considered "ridiculous” and "offensive" for Johnny to be on his knees in front of Destiny.
All in all I did like the story though, it was an enjoyable and a quick read.
The plot wasn't strong enough, (even more in such limited pages) and the characters had their roll-eyes moments (lots of them).
Sometimes Erotica and Love should NOT be mixed AT ALL. I would have liked more if there were NO love in the picture. Sorry to say, but I don't believe in "I love you" statements between people with one week relationships.
I think Johnny was a weak Dom, and the reason why he was a dominant was laughable. To dominate other, you need to first dominate yourself. The other person is trusting you to take care of her, being that through pleasure or pain or both. He didn't convinced me. He was known in his bar for being a very rigid Dom. I did not see that. He was kinda sweet at the beginning, and a bit of an ass in the middle.
Destiny is a dominant woman with hidden submissive desires. She's been honing her domme skills for some years, and then suddenly she's under Master Johnny mastery. It looks like she was a sub her whole life, she just hadn't noticed that little detail herself. I liked her attitude though, when Johnny failed her as her Dom. The fact that she faced him earned my respect.
I'll rate a 2(2.5) Stars , because even with a poor plot, and not great characters, the sex was very hot and had me squirming in my seat ;)
The summary of this book: dominant wants to try being sub. She doesn't want to admit it, but she likes it. Past issues of the male character. They're in love. End. I'm very impress with such a good story (sense my sarcasm, please). I have never read a book this plain and I don't get how it has so many 5 stars either.
I'm sorry but I'm not and will never be fond of stories when the mc fall in love with each other in a week of even less. I know it is a short story, but there's no development, there's no need to rush. It felt very unrealistic.
"I've known him for years–" "You've know of him for years."
That's the point of all of it, they don't know each other, they've known of each other. It makes a huge different and it's very clear in the story, because you don't feel any connection between them. I don't know anything about them, their conversations are related to sex, ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend drama. Nothing more. It was impossible for me to feel something when I was reading the book. I just needed more interactions no sex related.
I don't recommend this book, not even when you're bored in a Sunday afternoon, because it's going to be a waste of time and I don't want you to blame me for it.
This was very good for an erotic romance novella. (I often think there's too much trying to go on in an erotic romance for them to work unless they're pretty long. Sex can create a strong emotional connection, but for a HEA to be even slightly believable the couple has to talk, too--and talk beyond "Uh huh yeah right there baby you're so hot" etc.) Baker did a nice job of establishing character and backstory; the male protagonist makes some serious errors, but then there's some serious groveling, too. (I can't help but love a good groveling scene.) Conflict grows out of character, and the resolution of the conflict felt believable.
In fact, I've just talked myself into upgrading the rating from a 4 to a 5.
Now, this book was smokin hot!! I am not really well acquainted with BDSM, but I believe this one was the closest to the real thing. If you are into BDSM books then forget Fifty Shades or Bared to You because Bottoms Up is the real thing! It rocks!! It is a shame that Miranda Baker did ti so short, it definitely could have more pages. The characters were strong and the love story believable. I hope to find more great books from Miranda Baker!
I kind of liked this book. I wish there were 3.5 stars vs just 3. I thought the switch was interesting, I like the two main characters. The story seems to speed by like there could have been more details, more interaction. But I have to give Johnny props for what he did in the end, it takes a big man to do that. I'd love to know more about the character Matt now too.
A Sub I could finally understand! I loved Bottoms Up. Fiesty heroine Destiny is a dominant in her own right, but when bad-boy club owner and Master Dom Johnny comes along all bets are off on who will bottom! After reading this book, I went and bought all of Miranda Baker's other books. Nicely done erotic romance.
Bottoms Up by Miranda Baker is not your average BDSM novel and I have to say that I loved the unique feistiness of it! In fact, it had a little bit of everything: a well developed story, wonderful characters that I really enjoyed, great romance and lots of hot sex. And did I mention that it was a marvelously written?
In fact, it was this high level of writing that instantly drew me in. Baker creates a world that is marvelously urban and gritty yet highly accessible. The characters are edgy and likable and the overall atmosphere is perfectly captured. The wonderful descriptive quality of the writing truly brings it to life adding a marvelously insightful quality to the characters. This really helps to add to the emotional appeal of the novel illustrating Destiny's struggle to find her true self. In so doing the lessons she learns about defining ones self becomes clear, most people are not simply one thing or another, but have many facets to their personalities. While you may prefer the strength of domination there can still be room to submit. Neither quality is a strength nor a weakness, simple a portion of the whole. In truth, I really loved this aspect showing that you don't have to alter who you are to fit into a stereotype, but instead can willingly put yourself under the control of someone you love and/or trust even if you aren't wholly submissive.
These dilemmas add a wonderful human quality to both Destiny and Johnny and I couldn't have fallen more in love with them both. They are utterly human and flawed with painful pasts looking for a structure that can help give them the illusion of control in their daily lives. Destiny is a strong, spunky woman with a penchant for speaking her mind and I really loved when this feisty woman clashes against the unmovable and unquestionable dominance of Johnny Delcorral. In fact, his alpha male persona mixed with his arrogance and wicked personality made him utterly drool worthy. His wicked sense of humor and sarcasm really drew me in as did his tragic past and how it brought him into the BDSM lifestyle. In a way, it was perfectly understandable and fitting to his caring and protective nature. Of course his painful past is a part of what initially draws him to Destiny, but when he finds her wild nature to be too close to that of his dead love, his world slowly begins to spiral out of control. Naturally the connection between them is wonderfully developed and the sparking romance is always simmering despite the hesitancy they experience. The dominance of each adds a bit of spice to the relationship as Destiny finds it hard to become a perfect submissive and Johnny finds himself incapable of being the domineering Dom feels he should be. And yet, it was the ending of this novel that truly illustrated the depths of their bond and I couldn't help but swoon a bit at the lengths to which Johnny would go claim Destiny's heart and trust.
Overall, I found this novel to be quite touching and I really enjoyed the time spent with the characters watching them develop and evolve through out the story. This is my first time reading this author, but with her highly developed writing style and highly enticing characters, I will definitely be back for more!
I wanted this to be a story about two doms learning to dominate each other, or perhaps two doms falling in love outside of the scene and then playing together with their subs; what I got was the much more well-trodden territory about a man making a woman submit, messing it up royally because he’s totally in love with her, and being forgiven and let off the hook just before the grovel turned into the femdom I was secretly craving. The love happens way too quickly to be believable, the MMC and the FMC both have pathetic backstories about why they’re in the bdsm scene (it’s never just “because I like it,” is it?), and honestly I don’t see this relationship working out long term.
Erotic has a literary quality lacking in porn. Baker has pulled off a hat trick. Her book is arousing. She gave her characters depth. She gave her readers an exposition of the motivations and satisfactions of BDSM-the power exchange, pain morphing into pleasure, the deep connection.
Great book, it was short and I wish there was more as I finished it in 3 hours. If you are looking for a book with a lot of plot this is not it. However, the characters had interesting backstory and there was individual growth. I wish there was room for a bit more regarding character relationships. Overall it is a BDSM book, we aren't reading this for the plot.
This book called to me and had me hooked from the first page. The amount of history for the characters and the emotions felt between the two was amazing. For being a book that centers around spice it also had human connection and it was hot. The book I would not have minded more of the couple, but the novella felt complete without needing more. It was great and I loved it.
This was a great book. I could relate to Destiny on many levels. Not the domme part. But, the feisty part. I love the fighting spirit in her and I can truly see a part of myself in her. :P
This was pretty intense but it was an interesting read, quite a change from my usual reads. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer (more pages or a sequel at least) because I actually cared about the characters and I'd like to know more about them.
A good Short Story about a Dominatrix taking a night as a sub... This is my first full read of her writing, I read the sample a while back and finally found the full version. I'm Hoping now that I know there are at least 4 more in the series, I hope she keeps up with her style.
Characters were likable, plot was decent, looking forward to reading more from Amanda Usen. Only reason I gave 3 stars was because the scenes were short and felt rushed.
Rated the book 4 stars out of 5. This story was hoooootttttt!!! 😳😍😳😍😳😍. Wowza!!!! John's character is soon hotter. I love what he tried to do at the end to try to get Destiny to trust him again 😍 (sigh). I thought it was creative that the author wrote about a Dom girl switching to a Submissive and her experience with switching with Johnny. Honestly, these scenes will make you blush and sweat 😳😰! #mirandabaker #bdsmstory #switchhitter #dom #submissive #romancebookreaders #romancebook #romancenovels #romancebooklovers #romancebookclub #romancebookaddict #romancebookreaders #hotbooks #bookonkindleunlimited

Destiny is bored. Being a good Domme is wonderful, but she is doing it for all the wrong reasons. Johnny's been watching Destiny. After all he owns the bar and club, but that's not why he watches her. He is drawn to her, but he is a Dom with a haunting past. Johnny offers Destiny a deal, switch and be his sub. Destiny decides to give it a try and to her bewilderment she thrives as Johnny's sub.
There are a lot of twists and turns to this book, but I found myself drawn to Johnny's character. He did flub up a few times in the beginning with the BDSM protocols, but that just made me like him more knowing he was drawn to Destiny with passion.
Destiny's character was fun to watch change from a wonderful Domme to enchanted sub. The transformation awakened her to what she really was feeling.
There is a scene in the book that was a little tough, but it was there for a reason. The scene wasn't tough per say, but the timing of it was not right, and the heroine does call the hero out on it.
This is a quick, but fun and at times intense read. I was avoiding for a while, but now glad I finally picked it up!
I liked this one for the most part, there was only one part that I didn't really like. I really liked how we got to see the growth and change in Destiny as she chose to submit for the first time. Seeing her grow from being hung up on her ex to daring to let go and finally get what she wants was great to read.
The storyline was a bit different and I liked how it showed where Damian was in his head. I didn't always like it how he reacted to Destiny with his past in mind, but I'm glad that we got to see them work through everything. I liked the idea of the setting. More of a private club setting set away from a bar.
I thought it was well written and will be looking for more reading by Miranda Baker.
