5 Estrellitas. El primer premio del año se lo lleva ésta maravillosa novela que me ha tenido encandilada y enganchada desde que lo empecé.
Me recomendaron esta serie hace muchos años, pero tenía un par de motivos que me hacían retrasarlo: ocurría en el Oeste, y me dan mucha, mucha pereza los libros de vaqueros del Oeste, y ¡que están escritos por un hombre! Normalmente los libros románticos que he leído escritos por hombres han resultado ser un fiasco. No conocen el alma femenina, no saben dar lo que necesitamos... no sabría explicarlo; pero éste libro, si me dicen que está escrito por una mujer, me lo trago.
"Rose" es el primer libro que leo de Leigh Greenwood, y el primero de su serie "Siete novias". El autor nos presenta en ésta serie a los siete hermanos Randolph, de una rica y poderosa familia de Virginia, que lo perdió todo al comenzar la guerra, y cómo, una vez terminada, intentan rehacer sus vidas en un rancho apartado de Texas.
George Randolph es el hermano mayor, y ahora el cabeza de familia de siete hermanos, todos varones. George sirvió en el ejército confederado, y ahora, recién terminada la guerra, vuelve al rancho que compró su familia en Texas, para criar ganado. Pero el rancho es un desastre, siete hombres medio salvajes, que no saben llevar una casa ni cocinar, y menos asearse. Así que llegan a una conclusión, contratar una mujer para que les haga las tareas del hogar.
Rose Thornton está desesperada. Malvive en Austin trabajando como camarera, y el ambiente es opresivo para ella. Su padre era un oficial del ejercito unionista, y ella es una paria entre tantos sureños. Su esperanza será tener un día como cliente a George Randolph, que la salvará de las garras de unos parroquianos.
En seguida, Rose queda prendada de George, de su bondad y gentileza. Y cuando descubre que él está en Austin para buscar una empleada del hogar, se ofrece sin dudarlo para el puesto. Cualquier lugar lejano, donde nadie de Austin la conozca, ni a ella ni a su pasado, le basta.
Así será como Rose llegue al rancho de los Randolph y descubra una casa desvencijada, sucia, abandonada, y a cinco hombres (pues falta un hermano que no sale en éste libro) y niños, medio salvajes; sin una pizca de modales o educación.
La situación no será fácil para los Randolph, que hace mucho que no tienen mujeres en su familia, ni nadie que los mande, y peor será que una empleada los dé órdenes sobre cómo comportarse o vestirse. Aunque poco a poco, Rose irá entrando en los corazones de cada uno, empezando por el pequeño, Zac, de sólo seis años; hasta George, el mayor.
La relación entre George y Rose me ha parecido preciosa, hacía tiempo que no leía un romance así. Sí, ella en seguida se enamora de él, pero el suyo es un amor puro y sincero que se cuece muy poco a poco.
Por otro lado, tenemos el trato que ha dado el autor a los personajes. Me asombra que un hombre haya captado tan bien en Rose cómo es una mujer, su sensibilidad, sus sueños, y a la vez hacerla tan fuerte y valiente. Con esto no me dejo atrás al resto de hermanos, George es un grandullón con el fantasma de su brutal padre pendiendo sobre él, lleno de miedos e inseguridades, al no querer ser como él.
Después el resto de hermanos, a Madison aún no se lo conoce en éste libro. Al hosco y resentido Jeff, que fue prisionero de guerra. A Hen y Monty, los gemelos, auténticos vaqueros salvajes. Al adolescente Tyler, un chaval callado y solitario. Y al pequeño de los hermanos, Zac, un niño de sólo seis años, al que han criado unos salvajes, muy falto de amor, pero con mucho amor para dar; me han encantado sus escenas con Rose, y cómo la quiere.
El libro en general ha sido una joyita. Me ha tenido enganchada desde el principio, y guarda mas profundidad de lo que parece. No es sólo una historia de vaqueros en el Oeste. Es la historia de siete hombres muy perdidos, intentando rehacer sus vidas y volver a ser una familia; todos quieren y respetan a George, pero Rose será el pegamento de ésa familia, sobre todo cuando se haga patente el amor que están creciendo entre ella y George.
Además es una novela que se lee sola, entretenida, en la que están pasando cosas continuamente y con varios giros. Tiene unas cuantas sorpresas que no esperas, y más intríngulis de lo que parece. No es fácil ser un vaquero en un rancho perdido de Texas en 1866, cuando hay indios, cuatreros y otros maleantes acechando.
Por mi parte, chapó por éste libro, la pluma del autor y sus magníficos personajes. Habiéndome dejado el listón tan alto estoy decidida a seguir con el resto de la serie, y espero no tardar mucho en leerlos, pues estos siete hermanos me han encandilado.

Rose has her work cut out for her, taking on this family of seven brothers, one who will soon her husband. And George is not going to be an eager husband. The Randolph brothers are as wild and rowdy as seven brothers can get. George is a little old before his time, trying to save the family ranch that went downhill when the oldest brothers went off to fight in the War Between the States. He returns to a mess and a dying mother. He can't run a ranch and raise his youngest siblings. The only answer is to get himself a housekeeper. But for propriety's sake, he'll ends up marrying her.
Rose is well-named. She's pretty, delicate-appearing and sweet. But she's also tough like a good strong rosebush. She's got nerves of steel. Otherwise, she would have went running for the hills when tasked with shaping up this family of brothers. The only two sweet brothers are the youngest, Tyler and Zac. Zac is still very young, and takes to Rose very quickly. Tyler takes a little time to be won over but he does fall for her because she understands his needs for peace and quiet in the midst of a loud, crazy family. The older brothers don't care much for Rose at all. Well George certainly likes kissing her and other things. But love is not on his agenda at all. Jefferson, who lost an arm in the war is trying to decide if it's worth living without being a full man. Madison never comes back from the war at all. The twins Hen and Monty are in their terrible teens and can't seem to stay out of trouble. And George is so messed up from the war, and in over his head with the ranch, he has no idea how to be a loving husband.
I was fairly surprised at how rough the males were in this book. They are like wild animals. They don't even bath or clean the house or themselves. Rose has to lay down some ground rules very early on. Thankfully George does support her. Yet, George is not a warm hero. I spent a while wondering where the romance was going to bloom. But it did. Rose is a strong woman, who endured much to claim this family and to mold George into a loving husband. But she does it.
This was my first read by Leigh Greenwood (who is actually a male), and I was impressed. It's a good romance novel, but also a good western. There are a lot of lessons about family in this story. The Randolphs are very real, not prettied up. They fight like cats and dogs, and say ugly things to each other. But somehow it made the story more interesting.
This might not appeal to all romance novel readers, but I sure did enjoy Rose. It started off an excellent series that I read from beginning to end.

DNF ~30% of the way through.
A major factor in my dropping this book is the instalove and the "romance" in it. Soon after they've met and he's recruited her to work for him, she's all "perilously close to falling in love with him." What the hell? You've known the guy for barely a full day. And then later when he says he wants to be in the army rather than marry and have children, she's all heartbroken and "disheartened" and "lost" and "like a ship whose rudder had been wrenched off in a collision with a hidden shoal" and that "her future yawned before her, empty and somehow dangerous."

You've known the guy for two days. TWO DAYS .
Later she's all that she's "aware that her determination not to marry an army man was growing weaker." Oh, and this is after he's already said he doesn't want to marry or have children.
The whole relationship so far feels so forced and Rose is so overly presumptuous about marrying George and things to do with George. George, too, was all instaloving over her and it just had me rolling my eyes.
The entire "love" aspect of this novel felt so inorganic to me. There was absolutely no chemistry between the leads and it didn't feel at all real or believable. With that, all the moments and interactions with George and Rose felt overly forced and because there was so much dedicated to them it felt overly saturated. A lot of it was also the author telling us rather than showing. This contributed to the forced factor of the entire "relationship" and I feel it took away from the book and my enjoyment of it. I enjoyed the moments with the family and those interactions but I hated anything and everything to do with the two protagonists.
I think the author thought she was putting in sexual tension or pining but I didn't see any of that. Maybe if we'd been able to see the two main protagonists before they met one another -- seen their lives before the other came into it...BUT, we don't. Right from the very beginning we have Rose checking George out as he walks into the restaurant. I was being told rather than shown all these things about their instalove.
Their entire romance feels as though they're being forced together--like I said, inorganic--rather than allowing two characters to come together naturally.

When Rose Thornton sees the advertisement for a cook for six men, she decides to take George Randolph on his offer, after he rescues her one day at work. So not realizing what she was in for, she goes to the homestead and was shocked to see what she would have to deal with, concerning the Randolph men. When she arrives, the place is a pigsty, and wonders how any of them could live like this. There is George, the oldest. Then there is Jeff, the twins: Monty and Hen, Tyler, and the younger and still a child, Zac, who captures her heart from the first day. But out of all the brothers, it is George, whom she finds herself drawn to despite the circumstances that surround them, with their fathers having fought on both sides of the war. But despite all that, there is a sizzling fire between George and Rose, that starts to turn into love, what neither of them expected to find.
Rose is the first in the Seven Brides Series, written by Leigh Greenwood. I can't count how many times I have read this book, I just love love love reading it, so I thought it was about time that I read it and do a review for it. So here I am. Leigh Greenwood is one of my favorites to read from if I am looking for a good American Western romance, and is a male author, which suprised me at first, since there aren't too many male romance authors, that I actually know of, so its truly a delight to find such a talented one. Every time I pick up Rose, I can't force myself to put it down, I just love it so much. I just love the idea of one woman civilizing six brother (technically seven, but Madison doesn't show in this book) and can hold her own. Definitely my type of heroine, and the hero is the classic tortured, planning to never marry type, but knows deep down its inevitable. So as far as a classic western romance, Rose hits the roof! Just loved it!

Me encantooo! Un libro precioso.
Este es un libro de los “libros tesoros antiguos”, escrito con mucha dulzura, con una trama exquisita y sin necesidad de escenas de sexo que lo completen.
No había leído nada de este autor pero me ha enganchado completamente, por tanto iré de cabeza a leer el segundo título de esta serie.
Señalar que es la primera novela romántica escrita por un hombre que me gusta, porque si, Leigh Greenwood es un señor. Quizás es casualidad que hasta ahora no haya dado con un autor masculino que me haya atrapado o solo cuestión de tiempo que mi lista se amplíe. Ojalá así sea.
Los personajes también me gustaron muchísimo, tanto George y Rose como el resto de los hermanos, destacando a Zack.
En resumen ha sido una lectura muy completa que me ha hecho sentir muchas sensaciones buenas, por tanto la recomiendo totalmente.

Oigan, yo me acordaba de otro final 😆 será que me confundí con alguna de las otras 6 novias restantes 🙈 me faltó UN EPÍLOGO
Bueno no, igual me encanto Rose es todo lo que necesitaban mis Randolph, estamos en un escenario post guerra esa guerra que arrasó con todo y a su vez dejó a tantos huérfanos y entre ellos mis Randolph 7 hermanos que están varados en la nada teniendo que asumir papeles para los que no estaban preparados hasta que se ponen de acuerdo que necesitan a alguien que los ayudan así que el mayor George va a Austin y publica un anuncia en donde “Se busca una mujer para cocinar, limpiar y lavar para siete hombres “ literalmente eran unos animalitos a la deriva hasta que ella llegó a mover su mundo y a llevarlos a un camino de bien 😄 ame releerlo con mi club de lectura, ya quiero que llegue el día donde hablaremos de el, quiero que me den sus opiniones y que esperan que pueda pasar con los otros hermanos, sabemos que se viene el libro de Madison, al hermano que aún no conocemos el que se fugó cuando su madre murió, que será de él? Bueno eso lo averiguaremos en el siguiente libro 👀, a su vez como siempre conecte muchísimo con Zac ame verlo chiquitito 🥹 tan curioso y con ganas de ser un hombre más para esa casa, el nos dio la chispa en este libro, a su vez tenemos a George, no vamos a negar que nos gusta los traumaditos pero acá mi George más que traumadito también era cabeza dura, pero me encanta que por fin halla recapacitado solo necesitaba una Rose para que su vida y la de su familia mejorara 🥹☺️
Tengo demasiadas ganas de releer mis favoritos en especial el libro de Laurel y Violet 🥹 no se imaginan lo que ame y lloré con esos libritos, se imaginan con quién de los siete hermanos son?

Me gusto muchísimo con este libre salí del bloqueo lector, bueno que puedo decir Rose era lo que necesitaban esos 6 hermanos cada uno tan distinto pero tan necesitados de amor me gustaron todos ame como George se fue abriendo de poco a poco a Rose me gusto muchísimo quiero conocer la historia de los demás hermanos y conocer a Madison que es el único que falta.
Que sea escrito por un hombre es increíble aparte me gusto su historia como le empezaron a gustar las novelas románticas gracias a su esposa por eso creo un romance muy bonito.

Tengo demasiadas ganas de releer mis favoritos en especial el libro de Laurel y Violet 🥹 no se imaginan lo que ame y lloré con esos libritos, se imaginan con quién de los siete hermanos son?

Me gusto muchísimo con este libre salí del bloqueo lector, bueno que puedo decir Rose era lo que necesitaban esos 6 hermanos cada uno tan distinto pero tan necesitados de amor me gustaron todos ame como George se fue abriendo de poco a poco a Rose me gusto muchísimo quiero conocer la historia de los demás hermanos y conocer a Madison que es el único que falta.
Que sea escrito por un hombre es increíble aparte me gusto su historia como le empezaron a gustar las novelas románticas gracias a su esposa por eso creo un romance muy bonito.

This was the 7 brides for 7 brothers retelling I was looking for. Leigh Greenwood did not disappoint and he’s the first male romance author I’ve ever read! I loved George & Rose together, they made an incredible team. Did I roll my eyes a little at George’s denial of his feelings for Rose? Yes. Did I still love the way they came together and got their HEA? Also yes. Can’t wait to continue in this series and see each of these brothers meet their brides!

This reminded me so much of the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,if you take away the singing and the kidnapping.
The heroine Rose trying to make a living works in a cantina where she dodges the male customers lecherous attentions and the grumpy lady proprietor of the cantina.
One day the hero,Georige steps into her workplace orders something to eat
When one of the other costumers make a grab at Rose she is defended by George but subsequently finds herself fired from her job for making too much trouble.
Downtrodden she walks out of there but to her luck hears that the man who defended her earlier is seeking a housekeeper to cook and clean for him and his brothers.
George is not at all keen to employ her seeing as she is a young and unmarried woman...but there is no one else who wants the job so its decided she has the job.They leave for his home and well there Rose realizes its not just the housework that needs taking care of.
If you have seen the movie you know where this is going ;)
So slowly she settles in and tries to both deal with housework and the brothers relationship ((they got issues))
This was if not a bad book,it was decent but I dont think I will find myself re-reading this or recommending it to others. It was just a bit too bland.
I would find myself thinking about certain scenes"oh thats sweet" but my interest in the couple never went beyond lukewarm. I just didnt get a sense of chemistry between them. It was more like they were convenient to each other.
The other books will follow the brothers way to find love but I am not sure its anything I will chose to read in a hurry.

I'm giving this book 3 stars because while I liked it, I also have to be honest and admit it's problematic. This book was written in the 90s and like a lot of 90s historicals, we've got a heroine not long past childhood and a take-charge hero. He's not an alphahole, thank goodness, but if you're looking for a nod toward modern gender norms, you won't find that here.
This book is most definitely a romance, but the book also spends a fair amount of time setting up the world of the Randolph brothers, around whom the series revolves. George is the oldest. Returned from war where he served on the Confederate side, he has come home to the family ranch in Texas and is determined to get it up and running once more. His parents have both died, and he finds himself leading a motley crew of brothers, who range in age from their 20s down to age 6.
George needs help in the house with the cooking and cleaning, so he places an ad in town. He ends up hiring the orphaned Rose Thornton. Rose has been ostracized in town due to her father having been a hero in the United States Army during the recently ended Civil War. While she is apprehensive about life on an isolated farm with only men and boys for company, she also doesn't have a lot of options.
She fell into hero-worship (at least) with George at first sight when she met him in town, and much of the book shows Rose trying to establish routines and get a household running. The story centers at least as much on her friendships and relationships with the various brothers at least as much as it does on her slowly-developing romance with George. Due to his family's history, George is not looking to marry,but Rose gets beneath his skin and watching these two fall for each other while they run a farm and stave off cattle thieves was actually a lot of fun.
I like Westerns and I sometimes like 90s throwbacks, so I did enjoy reading this one. However,I did occasionally roll my eyes at the young heroine (don't worry, George is only in his late 20s so the age gap isn't too bad). I also repeatedly felt uncomfortable when politics came up every now and then throughout the story. While Rose is portrayed positively, the Yankees in general are not. I tend to have very little patience for the "Lost Cause" narrative of the Civil War. And it's clear from the author's note that the South is getting at least a somewhat romanticized treatment here. It's subtle, but still there, so I felt it worth mentioning for those readers who would want to know before getting into the book.

“Carpetbaggers”*
★★★★✩ I wasn’t crazy about this one at the beginning. There was a scene that was a complete rip-off from the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (one of my favorite movies, the best scene) where the heroine . However, given that the name of the title of this series is Seven Brides, I quit rolling my eyes and enjoyed George and Rose’s story. Plus, there weren’t any more rip-offs; this was an original story.
This romantic western, set right after the Civil War, is full of carpetbaggers, Indians, fighting brothers, cattle rustlers, family feuds and family secrets - on both sides. I’ve noticed this before; Mr. Greenwood is very good at writing dialogue for characters that are little boys causing, Zac Randolph (age six) to often steal the show. I’m sure I’ll continue with the series.

2.5 estrellas que redondeo a tres porque la ambientación y el resto de personajes me han gustado.
Tal y como amenacé en mi primera reseña, más abajo, al final he terminado este libro. Más que nada para poder leer el segundo libro de esta saga, el cual ya tengo en mis estanterías.
Desde luego, dudo mucho que si no hubiese sido por eso, hubiese terminado esta lectura. Tarda bastante en despegar. Por lo menos en mi opinión. Los primeros capítulos me resultaron bastante tediosos y, creo, que hasta la mitad del libro, más o menos, no me he metido en la historia. El tira y afloja del protagonista masculino, George, tampoco ha ayudado. Es personal, este cliché romántico no es de mi agrado, la verdad.
Luego, tiene otras cosillas por las que me he tenido que repetir: "contextualiza, Dashen. Contextualiza". Al final no ha sido tan grave como apuntaba al principio. Pero me ha costado todo lo relacionado con los nativos americanos y los forajidos. En fin.

La edición que tengo es la de Manderley (Santillana), publicada en el año 2007, en formato de tapa dura. La ilustración de la cubierta es adecuada al subgénero y me gusta, la verdad. La traducción, de Pedro José Lama Lama, tenía fallos bastante graves. Por ejemplo: sustituir el imperativo por el infinitivo. Algo muy típico de mis compatriotas, pero que sorprende en alguien que se supone que se dedica a la traducción. Mal. Y eso que solo he llegado al capítulo cinco.

Me ha gustado mucho y, además, el autor ha conseguido sumergirme de cabeza en este salvaje oeste que me ha transportado a mi infancia, con El gran chaparral y La familia Ingalls (que este último a lo mejor y ni transcurría en el oeste, pero ya me entienden). Rose es una protagonista brutal; una mujer propia de este mundo duro que, con todo, no ha perdido su buen corazón, y qué decir de George y de sus hermanos; por lo menos, habría matado a la mitad, para ser sincera, pero supongo que será cosa de leer sus respectivos libros para comprenderlos mejor y ver su evolución. Espero continuar con la serie pronto.

No ha estado mal si obviamos el principio. El instalove es algo con lo que no puedo y menos si está construido como en este libro. No me gustó nada y estuve a punto de abandonar la lectura porque se me estaba atragantando. Al final decidí darle una oportunidad y leerlo y no está mal, me ha gustado bastante. No me ha encantado, pero me ha dejado con la curiosidad suficiente para leer los siguientes y poder conocer un poco más a los otros hermanos. El segundo libro precisamente habla de Maddison, el que menos me interesa, pero bueno, lo leeré de todas formas para poder pasar a los demás.

Not usually one for Westerns, I’d picked up this book during a long weekend break, expecting to be slightly bored. Not so! Leigh Greenwood writes a great epic romance, but also packs quite a series of adventures, so you’re left panting after the plot.
First published in June 2005 by Leisure Books (Dorchester Publishing), Rose heads up the book series of seven brides for seven brothers. Apart the name of that famous musical/film/TV series, the Seven Brides series has nothing to do with Stephen Vincent Benét’s short, The Sobbin’ Women. (Which, if you think about it, is quite scandalous. The men ought to be shot.)
For this story anyways, there’s no crazy wifenapping although predictably, Rose faces off with a family of grubby boys-to-men, and becomes an integral part of their home. All the while looking very fetching while sweating it out over a gutted turkey out in the big, bad brush. Of course.
What was less predictable: the action, which starts from the first page and only eases up for a little while over meaningful looks and chaste kisses, before something else happens. Considering there are 7 brothers – which means two major characters and six minor ones – you had to wrap your head around quite a few names and all their hang ups, as well as latch on to the action, which comes thick and fast. But Leigh – who is a man! – writes well, reeling us in easily with his languid storytelling manner, and crafting characters so memorable, you have little difficulty figuring out who’s doing what by the time of the first plot twist.
As for the sizzle quotient, mostly lots of sweet cuddles and kisses with one semi-explicit sex scene. Otherwise, a good old-fashioned romance that leaves the insides all gooey and happy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Got it free from Kobo when they were having an offer, but now I want the rest and I’m willing to pay for the privilege.

I had a difficult time getting through this book. The story line was pretty decent, however, because there are so many brothers, it took me awhile to get all the names straight (a long time). I got tired of Jeff's constant whining and bitterness. His complete unwillingness to accept and forgive Rose, and honestly, she didn't do anything to deserve it. He completely got on my nerves. Since this appears to be a series, I guess I will skip to his book because I am, at this point, not interested in the other brothers book. TTFN-Sandy

Me lleve una gran sorpresa al terminar el libro y enterarme que la autora era en realidad AUTOR. Nunca pensé que un hombre estaria detras de la serie Siete Novias. En realidad nunca pense que un hombre encontraria el gusto de escribir libros con romance. Esta serie me la encontre hace poco y me llamo muchisimo la atencion. Es entretenida y aunque el autor no es muy conocido merece una oportunidad.

Rose trata sobre una joven Yanqui, que por cuestiones del destino termina trabajando, en el rancho Randolph, para 7 hombres.
En mi severa opinión es el primer libro de romance escrito por un hombre que he leído, más sin embargo me ha dejado sin ni una palabra. La historia te atrapa, te hace sentir a veces sensaciones, de una perspectiva diferente a la que estamos acostumbradas como lectoras.
Me encanta como el autor introdujo en la novela escenas de enfrentamientos del viejo oeste, que son muy distintivos de la época, pero también me llamó mucho la atención que pusiera a reflejar los miedos que sienten los hombres desde una manera diferente, pero entendible, que tal vez para la mira de las mujeres son asuntos que podemos resolver racionalmente, pero que para ellos es el honor de su vida y su futuro. A mi me parece que es algo que refleja esa parte infantil que todo hombre tiene.
Cada personaje me enamoró a su manera, me encanta cada hermano con su cierta peculiaridad; me fascinó la joven, como se desenvolvió en la historia. Me alegra mucho pensar que esta novela es la primera de una saga de 7 libros , que me comprometo a leer completos, porque me encantó esta historia y deseo seguir conociendo el inmenso mundo de las historias de Leigh Greenwood.
Pero no puedo negar que los personajes secundarios, en cierta medida fueron mis favoritos y que esperaba seguir viéndolos durante toda la historia, porque son tan encantadores que a veces el simple hecho de una acción enamora a la lectora. Los enfrentamientos, me parecieron muy entretenidos puesto que no sólo está el romance, sino que también podemos encontrar algunos eventos históricos que quizás, no son de todo exactos, pero que encontramos no sólo romance sino también algo más que nos entretiene y que es de una u otra manera algo que nos hace reflexionar sobre el pasado.
Me parece muy interesante que la historia se desarrolla con hechos reales, no es una historia que nos cuenta la vida de un príncipe y una princesa, sino que nos muestra una realidad cruda, que cada personaje debe pelear y luchar por lo que ellos quieren, nos demuestra la humanidad que tiene el hombre de fallar y de cometer errores

I really enjoy Leigh Greenwood’s writing, but sometimes it leans too heavily into realism for my taste. I appreciated that the brothers weren’t perfect—they were flawed and damaged in different ways, which made them more human. However, I struggled to feel the deep love and bond between them. Even their interactions with each other's children came across as rough and emotionally distant, lacking the warmth I was hoping for.
Most of the couples were just okay for me. Aside from George and Rose, none of the pairings left a lasting impression. That said, I did appreciate that each couple faced their own challenges and earned their happily-ever-after. It was also satisfying to revisit the previous brothers and see how their lives have progressed and how their families are growing.

This is Rose and George's love story. This story feels authentic to its time period of the Reconstruction after the Civil Was in Texas. The author explains in his notes where he took liberties with the time line in this story. It has Indians, Cortina's, Mexicans, Confederates, Yankees, Rustlers, Ranchers, etc. (ie. what pioneer life was like after the civil war in Texas).
I liked the chemistry between Rose and George. However, it took George a mighty long time to figure out what love is. I also liked like the chemistry happening between Rose and the brothers who lived with George. Food is important in this story. Lots of talk about food which makes the story seem even more authentic. I really enjoyed this gritty love story.

ชอบมากค่ะ ชอบน้องๆ พระเอกน่ารักทุกคน (ยกเว้นเจฟ) คนเขียนสร้างทุกๆ ตัวให้มีบุคลิกโดดเด่นจนแยกแยะได้แม้ว่าพระเอกจะมีน้องตั้งห้าคน (ที่มีบทบาทในเรื่องนี้) น้องคนเล็กน่ารักที่สุดเลย ซน ร่าเริง อ่านไปๆ ก็หลงรักมอนตี้กับเฮนด้วย เป็นสองฝาแฝดที่บุคลิกต่างกัน อยากอ่านเรื่องของแซค มอนตี้ กับเฮน ตอนโต เพราะแววพระเอกออกชัดเลยละ
เรื่องออกแนวอบอุ่น เป็นกลุ่มพี่น้องที่มีปัญหาในใจเพราะพ่อทำตัวแย่จนครอบครัวต้องถูกไล่มาอยู่ชนบทที่แทบไม่มีอะไรเลย แล้วหนีไปเป็นทหารและตาย ทิ้งแม่กับลูกๆ ไว้ ไม่นานแม่ก็ตายอีก พี่ชายอายุ 23 ต้องกลับมาดูแล ซึ่งเขาก็ไปรบในสงครามฝ่ายเหนือ-ใต้ ของอเมริกาสมัยนั้น ซะนาน เลยห่างเหินกัน ก็ค่อยๆ ประสานความสนิทสนมกันในครอบครัวโดยมีนางเอกเป็นตัวช่วย
เรื่องนี่ Western ของแท้เลยนะ ฉากเท็กซัส สมัย 1866 ที่บ้านเมืองยังไม่มีขื่อมีแป ที่จริงเราชอบเรื่องราวความผูกพัน น่ารักในครอบครัวมากๆ แต่ไม่ชอบฉากสมัยนั้น ที่คาวบอยต้องยิงกัน เป็นเมืองเถื่อน ใครมีปืนก็ปล้นฆ่า เอาม้า เอาวัว คนใจดีสุจริต ถ้าไม่มีปืนป้องกันตัว ก็ต้องหมดตัว ถูกปล้นฆ่า หรือหลอกรีดไถ อเมริกาสร้างชาติมาด้วยปืนจริงๆ คนที่รอดคือคนที่มีปืน และกล้ายิงคนอื่น
มันเริ่มจากสงครามกลางเมือง แล้วฝ่ายเหนือชนะ นางเอกเป็นเชื้อสายชาวเหนือ ที่มาอยู่ทางใต้ ตัวนางเอกเกิดทางใต้นะ แต่ก็ถูกรังเกียจ เพราะพ่อเป็นทหารฝ่ายเหนือ เหมือนประเทศแตกเป็นสองฝ่าย สองเสี่ยง รบกันจนฝ่ายหนึ่งชนะ แต่สงครามในใจ ไม่จบ คนยังแบ่งฝ่ายรังเกียจกันไปอีกเป็นสิบปี กว่าจะคลาย
นางเอกลำบาก เพราะพ่อตายในสงคราม ต้องมาทำงานเสริฟอาหาร ถูกลวนลาม พระเอกก็นะ ขี่ม้าขาวมาช่วยพอดี ก็เลยจ้างนางเอกเป็นแม่บ้าน ทำอาหารให้ ก็พากลับบ้าน พระเอกมีน้องชายหกคน คนนึงหายไปไม่กลับ นอกนั้นก็ตั้งแต่วัยรุ่นจนคนเล็กยังเด็กซนอยู่
น้องชายพระเอกคนที่สอง เจฟนั่น แขนขาดข้างนึงเพราะสงคราม ก็จงใจเกลียดฝ่ายเหนือแบบหลับหูหลับตา นางเอกขึ้นชื่อว่าลูกชาวเหนือ ทั้งที่ไม่ได้ไปรบ ไม่ได้เห็นด้วยกับสงคราม น้องคนรองนี่ก็ไม่ยอมรับละ แต่พระเอกดีเป็นตัวอย่างของคนที่มองอะไรกว้างๆ ว่าสงครามมันจบไปแล้ว คนที่ไม่เห็นด้วยก็มีเยอะ ฝ่ายเราแค้นที่เขาฆ่าเรา แต่เราก็ฆ่าเขาเช่นกัน มันควรจะจบได้แล้ว ไม่ควรจะยึดเอาความเกลียดแค้นนั่นเอาไว้ต่อไป รังแต่จะทำลายจิตใจของตัวเอง รู้สึกว่าตรงนี้สอนใจดีค่ะ
เรื่องความรักก็หวานแบบนิยายสมัยเก่าค่ะ ไม่น่าเชื่อเลยว่าคนเขียนเป็นผู้ชาย เพราะรู้สึกว่าเวลาเข้าไปนั่งในจิตใจนางเอกนี่อ่านไม่ขัดเลย และฝ่ายพระเอกก็เขียนดี เรื่องประมาณอบอุ่นๆ อ่านแล้วอุ่นหัวใจ ฉากรักฉากเดียว ไม่หวือหวาหรือเปิดเผยมาก มีฉากบู๊ต้องสู้กับพวกปล้นยิงกันหูดับตับไหม้ด้วยเหมือนกัน
หลายๆ ปมเรื่องครอบครัวค่อยๆ คลี่คลายออกมาได้แบบ มีหลายอย่างคาดไม่ถึง ค่อยๆ เปิดเผยออกมาเรื่อยๆ เสียดายตอนจบเรายังไม่รู้สึกอิ่มหรือว่าจบซักเท่าไหร่ เหมือนกับน่าจะมีต่ออีกหน่อย ที่จะไปงานพาเหรดหรือเริ่มต้นสร้างบ้านยังไง อยากให้ต่ออีกนิด หรือว่าจะต้องไปอ่านเล่มต่อไปหว่า

I love it! Really, really love it! I love Rose very much tho she can be too hopeless romantic but it's okay I can't judge her on that.... She grew up listening and dreaming to fairy tales and wanted her life to be as wonderful as those stories given the hardship she had faced and having for the first time of her life a man who defended her and cares for her even he didn't love her at first.... Men who. surrounded her all her life either disdain or have a dirty intentions towards her and the man she and her mom loved neglect both of them and then the hero comes along and she had those girls thoughts about fairy tales and love which she had as a. child... I don't she love him at first they met maybe she thought she did but I think it's just infatuation and mistaken it to be love... but it's okay because throughout the story I saw her feelings really develop and made me believe that she really come to love George.....
For George, his inner. struggle seems really hard for him.... I too have my pa's bad blood but I always thought I am also my ma's daughter which makes me feel better that I felt he has forgotten about his also his ma's son... his dad maybe rotten but he shouldn't say he would too becomes like him... and I hate to fell how that hurts the heroine... But his a. good guy but he thinks too much of things that "Might happen", "Could happen" or "Already happened".
But the author had. done well on not making the story too dragging... every part of it is very interesting for me... And I also love the part when the author wrote about how can other Randolph brothers use their bad blood for good..like Hen being ruthless killer but would give his life himself for them... I love every one on this family...

Este es el primer libro de la serie siete novias y me ha gustado mucho, transcurre en Tejas, a mediados siglo XIX, después de la guerra y en plena reconstrucción del país. Sus protagonistas son George y Rose, él es el mayor de los 7 hermanos Randolph y ella una joven sin familia que se encuentra discriminada socialmente por ser hija de un soldado yanqui.
Me ha gustado mucho cómo está contada, con sencillez, metiéndote poco a poco en la historia, como surge todo, como se hace querer y respetar Rose, sin imponer nada, con paciencia y respeto. Y como George va cambiando su visión de futuro, como supera el pasado y decide lo que quiere hacer.
Cada hermano es un mundo, son muy diferentes aunque hay uno que en este libro está ausente. Me ha encantado Zack con sus 6 años, un niño travieso y muy tierno.
Me parece muy importante el papel tan importante que tiene la familia en este libro, por encima de ideales y deseos individuales, hay una fuerte responsabilidad en ellos que les impulsa a mantenerse unidos frente a todo.
Esta muy bien ambientada y todo el sentimiento de odio y crispación que se respira en esa época muy bien tratado, los diferentes bandos, las habladurías y todo lo vivido durante la reciente guerra. Los trabajos y rutinas propias de los ranchos, cuidado de los animales y conflictos entre vecinos y cuatreros.
En resumen, lo recomiendo, una lectura que te atrapa, bonita y emocionante por momentos, con aventuras y peligros y con un romance que aunque se puede decir que es a primera vista, se cuece lento.

I loved it. The struggle between the characters were, in my opinion, genuine. Rose is working in a restaurant where she is almost mauled in public by a guy and is thrown out because her father fought for the Union. She is saved by George, who is troubled and scared of turning into his father. His father was a serial cheater whose scandal forced the family to flee to Texas. Not only that but he was also an uncaring jerk who beat his sons. Rose struggled against falling for a military man. She was convinced that he would turn out to be like her father. Rose saved their ranch from being taken over and George's Yankee hating brother found out about who her father was. She decided to return to Austin to avoid splitting up their family even though she loves George. A scandal forced George to wed Rose. They fight a bunch of homesteaders who are stealing their cows. George tells Rose that he loves her. After fighting off the McCleadons, dealing with his past and his father, George and Rose find their happily ever after. I love Leigh Greenwood. He gets into the female mindset very well and a joy to read.

Strong Woman Character for the Win!
The Seven Brides books were some of the first romances I devoured as a young teen, I absolutely love them! While Rose may not be my favorite Bride, she plays a pivotal role in the Randolph family. Without Rose taming the wild Randolph boys, we wouldn't have gotten the six other books. Rose is a strong woman, she doesn't take crap from nobody and yet she is tender and loving. She even loves Jeff and his cantankerous ass! Rose and George's story is a wonderful beginning to a wonderful series. Buckle up, you're in for a great ride with a bouquet of Flowers and their wild men in waiting!

I love old west romance but I had a hard time finishing this book. All in all, I just couldn't get caught up in this story. I liked Rose but thought the hero, Geroge, was just kinda boring. I found the other characters, Geroge's brothers, much more interesting and since this is the first book in the series this author has written a book for each of them. I picked up think book intending to read the entire series, but I don't think I will end up reading any other of the Seven Brides books.
