Wtf Really????????? I truly just don't know what to think of this series.... This was the last book in the Nightwalker series, and I have one question for Jacquelyn Frank. Why? Why are almost all of your heroines cowards? OMG love is so scary! I can't love you, I have been hurt! No I refuse you, I don't care if you are my soul mate I am to scared to even think of trying so I will run.. Bla Bla Bla! I just don't understand it and quite frankly it drove me crazy, making it hard for me to get into the series. Poor Adam, Noah, Gideon, and Elijah. I just wanted to tell them all

 photo 9274714_zpsngqpkix9.gif

In this book the couple Jasmine and Adam were just kind of a afterthought in this book and not the main focus. Which wasn't to big of a deal since this is the last book in the series and the plot needed wrapped up. The first part of the book had me in a emotional meltdown!

 photo 684232_zpsdmunlsoj.gif

Then Leah makes it better and I really started to enjoy the book up until the 93% mark and then I was getting pissed again. So this is me reading this book.

1st part of the book til the 20% mark:
Omg this can't be happening. No NO NO!

21% til 93%:
Oh Thank God...... Leah to the rescue! Yay Adam is back and saves the day Awe I love Adam .... Oh look he has a mate. I like Jaz with Adam. Lots of sexual tension. This book is great. Yeah Kick some bad guy ass Yes!!!

94% til the end: Good guys won Yea! Time to party. Time for Jaz and Adam to be together at last. Hmm their first time not as good as I thought it would be, but whatevs! What the Hell!!!! Did Jasmine just freak out about love.... Damn it to hell! another Coward! WTF
 photo 7150339_zpslulufp6g.gif

Well that just ruined it for me!!!! OMG is that all the Epilogue we get really?

That is me Reading this book and my thought during said reading!

This book and this series was very iffy for me. I don't know if I will read any more of Jacquelyn Franks books.

The last book of the series starts out with a huge WTF moment. We are immediately, without warning and without regards to our fragile hearts, thrown into the midst of a battle scene between the Demon Enforcers and the evil duo, Ruth and Nicodemus. In grisly detail, we are forced to watch the deaths of Jacob and Isabella, right in front of their daughter who barely escapes with her life.

My reaction:

description

I wasn't prepared for this. I had to force myself to continue, with a box of tissues handy as the author describes life 10 years later. It was as if all the happiness had been sucked out of me and I started looking around for these creatures, thinking I was in the wrong book:

description

Of course, Ms. Frank has a plan. Leah, as you will remember from book 1, is the first child of Time. She sure helped Noah in getting his mate and after 10 years of misery without her parents, she has devised, discarded and resurrected a plan to change the past and her own future.

Adam is Jacob's older brother. He was mentioned in one or more of the earlier books as having disappeared without a trace some 400 years ago and is assumed to have been summoned and died.

Yeah - not so much. Turns out that Leah went back in time and found Adam. She transports him forward to the exact moment of her parents' deaths and with Adam's help, they manage to defeat Ruth and Nicodemus (who's now the one dying in that battle).

And then things get really interesting!

In her 6th book, Ms. Frank ties up most of the loose ends and brings peace, love and much hope to the world she created. I'm reminded a lot of how J.K. Rowling ended her series - that a lot of the things that happen in the earlier books have a purpose that isn't revealed until the final.

And I continue to be impressed by the writing itself - showing, not telling - and the exquisite way Ms. Frank describes the emotional bonds between mates as well as the love scenes. They're explicit without resorting to crude language and so emotionally charged that it's hard to not get burned by the passion between bonded mates.

After reading devouring this series (Thanks, Michelle), I can only recommend it to anyone who loves PNR set within a well-thought out world, with a large dose of action and some hot loving.

This was a great read, and I can see myself re-reading these books sometime down the road.

OMG, what a complex read and an amazing surprise I was definitely NOT expecting. For some reason, probably because my mind was set to understand this series was over already, I really thought I would be bored with this read. I just thought: Please, not another author who tries to come back with an old success. Well, I could have not been any more mistaken. IT WAS FREAKING AMAZING!
I was more than happy to come back to such amazing characters and to this fascinating world J. Frank has created. It helped me remembering why I had been so infatuated with this series before. I guess after all this time I just forgot how formidable this series was. Well, it was good to remember.

Be ready to come back to a world with Demons, Necromancers, witches, vampires and shifters. To a world were everything is possible. God, how I missed a read like this one. I had loved the previous books but this one was even better because we get time traveling as a possibility. To imagine everything you could change, how everything could disappear from one single change. So much goes on in this book I don't even know where to begin. I do remember feeling lost after reading Noah's book, I just had this feeling like so much was left unresolved. Well, for those who felt like I did be ready to get an amazing surprise as this book is definitely more about the plot. We get a lot of information. I usually don't like a book which is more focused on the plot than the romance, but in this case it really worked for me as I had so many questions to be answered.
It might have taken a long time for the main characters to get together but once it did it really clicked for me. I loved them. I got everything I had been waiting from this read and I just hope more books are to come in the future.

OH GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!!! I swear I'm only 2hrs into the audiobook and I'm ready to slit my wrists!! I swear if things progress the way they are going I'm going to be hanging from my closet before the night is over.

update: book complete

Book Review - I actually REALLY liked this book. The beginning was extremely depressing and left me screaming WTF, but once I could figure out the gist of the story I was more than happy to keep going. There is lots of action and emotion. I love Jasmine's witt. The story jumped around to every previous character's pov. I felt that all the extra povs took away from Jasmine and Adam's love story but it helped move the overall story along. There were some things that happened that left me wondering why the heck the author put that in there because there simply wasn't an explaination. I wish the author didn't leave so many questions about the mystery demon unanswered, but hey what can we do about it now. I even listened to the last hour or so of the book just to make sure I didn't miss a big reveal or something...i didn't.

Narrator Review - Xe Sands did an amazing job throughout the entire series. With these six books she has jumped to my favorite narrator's list. Her male voices were sexy as all hell (yeah I said it...lol) and her female voices were different and CONSISTANT enough to allow you to tell the character's apart. I'll definitely hit audible and find other books she has narrated.

Book - 4 stars
Narrator - 4.5 stars

I liked this book for the most part but there were a few things i had issues with. The beginning was CRAZY and very sad actually...but then things started to get really interesting because of Leah's abilities and i really liked what Jacquelyn Frank did with all of that, and how she brought Adam into the story...that was VERY cool! I thought the climactic battle with Ruth, after all the years of hell that she put all the Nightwalkers through was satisfying enough but i wish that they'd ALL been there to see to it together.

I really liked Adam, the hero, a lot, but I wasn't overly satisfied with the romantic aspect of this book. The sexual tension between Adam and Jasmine was good but i didn't like how long it took for them to actually get together...it was almost 90% when they finally did and that was it, then we were onto the epilogue and there was no more about those two, as far as how their relationship had progressed! It just felt a little rushed and incomplete! Their relationship wasn't "built up" and "seen through" like it had been for past couples in previous books.

Adam would have received a higher rating from me had the epilogue been better, i was expecting some grand epilogue since this is supposed to be the last book in the series! The epilogue wasn't really even an epilogue..it was a "later that night" chapter! When i'd read the last page, i kept clicking and clicking and clicking the next page button on my kindle thinking there has to be something missing..maybe there are a few blank pages before we get MORE!? Oh no...that was it...it just ended...like that! No look into anyone's future..NO ONE'S, not even Adam and Jasmine's whose book this was! Sadly, after really enjoying this book, the end fell flat and it was a bit of a let down for me. :(

WOW!!!! I was floored by this book. Loved every minute of it! Jacquelyn's writing is so fresh, vivid and magical. Her characters are utterly endearing and just frickin' hot. Adam and Jasmine are no exception. I want to read this again and again. NICE JOB, MISS FRANK!!!!!

The concept of the plot was interesting but this book left much to be desired. They finally were able to do what they failed to do throughout the series, but the aftermath was so lukewarm and rushed. I think the writer could have spend more time showing the life of everybody involved instead of finishing with "Adam, I want you to meet your brother Kane" and that's it. So meh.

You know I started reading this book and right off the bat I said to myself WTF???? How could this be...I was so tempted to put the book down. But of course being the type of person I am I had to look through to see if what had happened really happened and whether there was some happy endings in there.

Jacquelyn wrote a fantastic last book of the series with this one. It had me thinking long after I put the book down about how changing one small part of the past has far reaching consequences to everything else in the future. The things that happen in life, whether they be good or bad, have a way of sending out tentacles into other aspects of life. Change one thing and hence all things change.

I so enjoyed the dialogue between Adam and Jasmine. Sweet Jasmine who waited over 4 centuries for Adam without even knowing what she was waiting for. I loved these two. The chemistry jumped off the page. The only question I was left with was "who the hell was that girl at the end" (not the gypsy). If you have read the book and can explain it please let me know.

I am so sorry to see the end of this series as I loved the world it was set it, the characters and the story. Well done Ms. Frank.

The prologue is 2008- Jacob and Bella are fighting Ruth and her lover Nicodemus, this prologue will rip apart the foundations of this series, of this world Jacquelyn Frank built. You will not believe it at first, thinking instead it’s a weird twist, or cruel trick, but it’s real. And it sucks.

Fast forward 10 years later, and we see Leah, Jacob and Bella’s daughter, as an isolated teen. While this may be Jasmine and Adam’s book, we actually get a lot of Leah for about the first 70 pages. And that’s something,in general, that I’d like to point out- Normally too many pov shifts really bothers me, but I like how we saw the viewpoints from our previous characters. It drew me right back into the world, and it reminded me of why I liked this series.

But the in the present, in Leah’s world, the Nightwalkers world is falling apart. I won’t reveal why, even though it’s not a spoiler since it happens in the prologue, but it’s a huge shock. I will say that Leah has wrestled with a certain decision for the last ten years, and something causes her to finally decide what to do.

Leah finds out that she had an uncle named Adam-Jacob’s elder brother, and a great warrior. We flash 400 years back in time to meet Adam. He’s an arrogant, cocky and gets thrown for a loop once he meets Jasmine. But since she’s a vampire, it’s not only taboo, they’re lifelong enemies. Flash forward back to that critical moment in the prologue that I won’t spoil-but add Adam into the mix.
He jumps headlong into the fight against Ruth, killing her vampire lover. Jasmine and Adam run into each other once more, only now, they are allowed to be together-if that’s what they want. The sizzle is definitely there, and the attraction as well, but neither one wants an imprinted mate. Or do they?

The only thing that I missed out on was the romance. There was a lot less romance in this book than the others, and I know it’s hard to tie up all of those loose ends, show us what’s happening, what could happen, and what has happened already (remember, Leah is a demon of Time-so the possibilities are infinite), but I still missed seeing the romance. However, that aside, the plot was fantastic, and this book is well-worth the read. This book made me like Jasmine, who I previously hated. There was a specific girl who shows up, and I have my theories on her, but I'd hoped to see more of her throughout the story. Especially since there were chances for other point of view shifts, hers would have fallen right in place.

Final verdict? Enjoyed this book, the series is such an incredible and unique take on paranormal romance, and I think that it’s absolutely worth reading.

***Thank You to Kensington for the ARC of Adam

Adam is Jacob's brother who mysteriously disappeared 400 years ago. Mentioned in passing in previous books we find out more about this compelling character. But really this is as much Jasmine's story as Adam's. Jasmine as you may remember is Damien the Vampire Prince's right hand and best friend. She also can't stand Damien's mate and uses any excuse to torment her. The book starts out shocking readers...then slows down..almost too much to focus on Leah and some angst ridden drama. The story ramps up again about 1/3 of the way in and keeps going until we find out what happens with the dastardly Ruth and her equally nasty Mate Nico. It takes many twists and turns until we ultimately find out the ending to Adam and Jasmine's story.

Not the best book in the series in my opinion, a lot of fluff that is not necessary to the plot line. For example after the beginning shock there is a story line with her and Seth that just goes no where and within contexts of this novel is out of place. In a lot of ways Adam and Jasmine's story is second place to the plot of the series moving on... They make their connection in the story very early and spend the rest of the time with Jasmine combating her feelings. This makes for a very slow read in some places. I have to admit to putting the book down and reading a new release from another series before coming back and finishing this book. The story although very good just wasn't as compelling as previous books in the series. Jacquelyn Frank definitely closed a whole Nightwalker chapter with the novel and it will be interesting to see what she brings to the next.

Although not thrilled with this novel I'm still a fan and will be reading the next installment of the series.. 3 and 1/2 stars to Adam..if you need to miss a book in the series this is the one to miss.

Ever since I picked up Jacob I was caught up in this outstanding world, so when I had the chance to review it of course I took it. The Nightwalker books is one of the first paranormals I read and have yet to look back.

Now this wasn't my favorite book in the series but it did actually come pretty close. Adam is the oldest brother to Jacob and Kane. A long ago, Adam disappeared from not only his home but from his job as Enforcer. Jacob searched for him but found no trace of him. Finally Adam mysteriously shows up centuries later and Jacob isn't the only one surprised to see him.

I will tell you that I just loved the fact that Jacob's daughter has a special talent and it plays a key role in everything that happens. Well maybe I like it so much because well let's face it I am a sucker for Jacob. *dreamy sigh*

The one thing I didn't like about this book was the time jumping within the first half of the book. I was starting to get confused in what time everything was in fact going on. But eventually everything does come together and and begins to make sense. Ruth returns and the way the story plays out and the way it finally wraps up was just perfect.

If you are a fan of the Nightwalker series you will not be disappointed in this book. You get the chance to see previous characters play major roles in this fantastic story. I know it was time for this series to end and Frank did it so wonderfully and for sure came out on top.

Happy Reading!

This one is full of twists and turns, both heart breaking and heart warning moments, and in the endd really ties this series together. I am saddened that this is the last book in this series, but am very glad that I decided to finally read this. On to some more of Frank's books.

Reviewed for Smexybooks.com October 2011

Adam is book 6 in Jacquelyn Frank’s Nightwalker series and it was such a sweet surprise because I had been under the impression that the series had ended with Noah’s book, three years ago. I really enjoyed the world that Ms. Frank created in her Nightwalker series and because I couldn’t remember Adam at all, I was even more intrigued.

The story begins with a prologue in the year 2008. We revisit most of the characters from previous books and get a quick update and some insight to their lives. Unfortunately, the mind demon Ruth is still at large and her threat is now compounded by the fact that she has mated the vampire Nicodemous. Together they have powers unmatched by any other and when they kill a beloved demon couple, those that are left behind are so affected by the unexpected tragedy, no one will ever be the same.
When we meet Adam, we have gone back in time about 400 years. The war between demons and vampires is going strong. Adam is the Enforcer. He takes his job seriously and in this time he is the most revered Enforcer of demonkind. Being Enforcer is not Adam’s only priority, however. His family is as well and he will do anything he can to keep them safe. Adam is especially close to his brother, Jacob, and their close relationship comes through clearly through the author’s words.
It is a few days before Beltane and Adam is making his rounds in mist form when he senses someone. Taking his human form, he finds a beautiful woman bathing in the lake. Jasmine is a vampire, but even knowing this, Adam feels a pull toward her. Jasmine, too, senses Adam and as she’s just awakened from going to ground for 40 years, she figures a little chat with the demon can’t hurt anything. The attraction they feel toward each other is so strong they are both surprised by it. Both know, however, that they cannot act on this attraction; it doesn’t stop them from taunting each other.
“Oh, darling,” she purred, “do not stand there and pretend you are not considering dozens of ways of penetrating me,” she taunted him like a cruel siren. “Putting aside the state of your body, Adam,” she said, purposely using his name to remind him how easy it was for her to see into his mind, “you are already imagining the feel of coming deep inside me. Perhaps just after I have had a fresh feed, when my body is at its highest heat…”

Adam, refusing to be the only one affected, get’s Jasmine back.

“He changed form in the blink of an eye, morphing from man to a deluge of water that dashed against her face and body. But unlike normal water, he did not cascade off her and fall to the ground. Instead, he flowed over her supple body, slowly washing over and around her, covering her inch by inch. He felt the smoothness of her skin beneath his touch, the weight of her breasts…tasted the hard points of her nipples.”

They don’t know it at the time, but their brief contact has changed them and started something neither of them would have been able to control. Eventually, they would not have been able to stop themselves from giving in to their attraction to each other, laws notwithstanding.

Unfortunately, they never get the chance. The next evening, the huge party that Adam’s mother is throwing to celebrate Beltane is in full swing. The gypsies from the area are in attendance as always as this is a way for the demonkind to ‘blend in’ and lay to rest any fears or worry the humans of the area might have toward them. When Adam notices a young woman on the edges of the party, staring at Jacob he approaches her. His assumes that she is a young gypsy girl taken with the handsome Jacob and he intends to set her straight.

And that is the last time Adam is ever seen. His disappearance goes unexplained and it is assumed that he was killed because Adam would never willingly leave his family that way. Jacob becomes the new Enforcer and holds that title for many, many years. Eventually the war between vampires and demons ends and life goes on for the Nightwalkers, moving into present time and the current situation with Ruth and Nicodemous. Much has happened over 400 years. Many revelations have been made and many things have been learned and all of it is in danger unless Ruth and Nicodemous can be stopped.

The story than jumps forward, back to Samhain 2008. Jacob and Isabella are furiously battling Ruth and Nicodemous and out of the blue, Adam appears with the young gypsy girl. There is no time for explanations or answer to questions. Adam immediately engages in the battle. There will be time for explanations….later.

Fortunately for Adam, Jasmine is still around and when they see each for the first time, that fragile bond that had been started 400 years ago snaps into place. Adam is thrilled to learn that much has changed over time, most especially the intermingling of species and the thought that he can actually be with Jasmine and act on his feelings is something he’s looking forward to. But there is much to overcome in that area as Jasmine has had to live through the 400 years pining for Adam and not understanding why.

When Adam and Jasmine learn that Ruth and Nicodemous’ recent actions are responsible for why Adam disappeared from his own time in the first place, they team up to make sure Ruth and Nicodemous reign of terror is ended. This common goal brings them together in more ways than one. But their battle will not end easily; in fact, additional obstacles will continue to appear making their task even more difficult.

I loved Adam’s story, but if you are not familiar with the series I don’t think you can possibly appreciate fully the world that Ms. Frank creates with her series; especially, in a story where time travel is involved. There is back story in this book, as it is explained to Adam to help him assimilate to being plucked out of one time and deposited into another. As you can imagine, Adam’s appearance at a very opportune moment changed the course of history as it had played out previously and with that come many ramifications which I hope will be explored in future books.

There is so much going on as we move back and forth through time, but I had no trouble keeping up with the world as it was and as it became. We meet a few new characters that raise many questions and left me incredibly hopeful that this is not the end but perhaps the beginning of a new phase in Ms. Frank’s Nightwalker books. I would love to see the true effects of Adam’s traveling forward in time and the very positive changes his appearance brought to those who had mourned him for so long, not to mention the effects that are just hinted at.

I would have liked to have the romance between Jasmine and Adam fleshed out a bit more. We know that when they meet something happens and then they are separated. We know that Jasmine suffered greatly during Adam’s 400 year absence and that she went to ground several times to try and abate her unexplained melancholy. When they are reunited in the future the attraction is still there and it is explored. In fact there is one super sexy scene where Jasmine feeds from a very surprising vein and I’m not talking the femoral artery. It was wicked hot! That said, their romance and subsequent HEA is kind just assumed.

We are left with questions and again, I’m hoping Ms. Frank is not done with the Nightwalkers after all. I only pray we do not have to wait 3 more years for the next installment.

*Very light spoilers for the book…it would be nearly impossible to review this book spoiler-free!*

It’s been 3 long years since the last book in the Nightwalkers series came out, Noah, so to say I was eagerly anticipating this newest release, Adam, is an understatement. The epilogue had me ready to throw the book out the window – an HEA for one past couple is ripped away in the first few pages and once I calmed down enough to think about it, I knew there had to be another explanation to what was going on in this world. Also, had I taken the time to skim through Noah again, I might have remembered a few key details about the 2 young children born into this world during the series, and maybe I might have been better able to have handled that crazy prologue.

Our leads are Jasmine, who we got to know very well in Damien’s book. She’s his right hand woman; they’ve known each other and been best of friends for hundreds of years. She was a bit unlikable early on, I especially didn’t like the way she treated Damien’s mate, Syreena, but I always figure there’s much more than meets the eye with supporting characters, so I was curious to her POV. The hero is Adam, Jacob’s brother, who’s been gone for 400 years and believed to be dead. He’s back through a series of events that happen during the first third of the book.

Leah, Jacob and Bella’s daughter, is the primary point of view that starts the book off, and my favorite part of the entire story happens in the first 100 pages. The timeline almost becomes a supporting character as it plays a huge role in realigning all the characters for the second part of the story. But early on, I loved getting to see the scenes between a young Adam and Jacob that took place 400 years ago. It’s during this time that Adam is the Enforcer and Jacob has zero plans or desires to ever take over for Adam if that time were to come. They banter back and forth, spar like only brothers can, and it shows how much they really care about one another. It also sheds more light on just how hard it must have been for Jacob when Adam disappeared for those 400 years. Adam also meets a female vampire who’s just woken up from her death sleep and is drawn to her like no one he’s ever met before. But it’s a time when his people and the vampires are at war and to feel anything other than hate for the vampires is a big no-no. They can’t deny themselves a quick moment of touch. Adam can manipulate his body into water, and um…douses her with…himself! He doesn’t know what to do with these feelings he has after their first meeting and Noah picks up on his confusion – which makes Adam’s “advice” to Noah all the better since we know that all the males end up happily mated in the future:

…Adam exploded in a growl of frustrated outrage, whirling to face his perplexed companion. “Never believe it when someone tries to tell you women are the weaker sex!”

(…)

“I image you have a specific woman in mind?” he asked.

“Yes! No!” Adam countered himself quickly out of an instinct for self-preservation. “It does not matter. They strive to perplex us and drive us to base and ridiculous behaviors, be they mothers, sisters, or lovers. Even a total stranger! A woman can have the power to beguile and confuse a man until he knows not right from wrong! Beware, Noah,” he cautioned his friend, pointing an ominous finger at him, “for this is what leads many of our males astray.”

I really loved getting to see Adam, Jacob and Jasmine during this time, but Leah and her amazing, and really scary ability, impacts Adam hugely and he’s ripped from his world and reconnected with Jacob, Noah and all his people in the book’s present.

Where this story started lacking for me as it went on was the lead relationship. Not a lot of time is given to Adam and Jasmine. The majority of their page time together is spent dealing with Adam’s reaction to the present, which is pretty funny, but also hunting down the horrible Ruth. We get the idea that these two are mates and the imprinting is happening between them, but with everything else that’s going on around them and the constant point of view switching, they get lost in the shuffle a bit. From the parts with them that we get, and they do get a bit more time towards the end which include some sweet scenes, I really did enjoy them as a couple, I just wanted more.

I’ve mentioned the abundance of characters we get caught up with, and it’s a lot. I lost track of how many actually get page time and their POV’s told. I did enjoy seeing all our past favorites again, and learning what’s going on with them and how they’re involved with the big fight that was building up the entire book with Ruth.

I feel like I need to give the book two ratings. The first third of the book was fantastic, I was fully engaged in the story and couldn’t wait to see where everything was heading, easily 4 stars. The pace really slowed down in the middle and it lost some of the oomph that the beginning had, so my overall rating is 3 1/2 stars. It’s a nice read, but I don’t feel like I fully got Adam and Jasmine’s story. It got a bit lost with everything else that was going on, and while they had some hot scenes together (Adam gets very creative with his shifting into water ability!) I really needed and wanted more scenes for them.

(4.5 Stars Really)

The extremely bold beginning of this installment alone was enough to make it the best entry of the series for me. I was stunned (in a very good way) at the audacity of character and storyline shakeup and excited about how it would play out for the remainder of the read. The great follow-through from the opening events made this an emotional read, that capitalized on both the events and the consequences as Leah came into her power and played such a pivotal role.

Adam being a fish out of water was a good way of revisiting the couples from the series and matching him with Jasmine was not a surprise for this reader. In Damien, there was the cryptic message about her mate and Adam's appearance made him the most likely candidate, especially after a glimpse at Jasmine's memories. Adam's confusion over his displacement and his desire for Jasmine helped to both "humanize" him and made him more attractive. This was also a good star turn for Jasmine since she was able to leave the dour naysayer behind and not be obsessed with Damien. The alternate reality was another winner for me, I liked that the devolving of the Nightwalker societies came not from an expected place but more from a less obvious concentric circle of an event. However that alternative view didn't show Kane or Corrine in a very good light and highlighted gaps in what was thought to be a solid foundation and they didn't get back on the plus side for me.

Overall, although Nightwalkers never became the series I wanted and needed it to be, the promise from the first installment paid off here. (IMO) Ruth had become much too powerful a villain for the series and the constant battles with her too predictable and sapped my enjoyment. I was exhausted with all the near misses and no one being smart enough to realize what would take to stop Ruth. The variety of sups was great and I liked the mix of demons, vampires, etc. Re-iterating the links between the various Nightwalker races and the tenuous peace they exist under was an excellent way to wrap the series. While I have the spin-off series for this I am not sure I'll ever read it since I wasn't a fan of the writing style.

Okay, this doesnt feel like a Nightwalker novel to me.. It doesnt feel like any of the first 5 books in this series. That being said, its not a bad read, it's just a little weird to read about all the characters you've come to know, like, or love in this series, but you're reading about them in a completely different setting it seems. Not a Nightwalker one. And that's a little disconcerting. But the story is quite gripping.

What I didnt like about this one, was the romance. It just did not grip me. Adam and Jasmine are great on their own, but together? No they didn't mesh well at all for me. Their romance was not even luke warm in my opinion. Not enough time spent on them for one, and not a strong enough foundation to make you care if they get together or not.

I was more than happy that this one did not really focus on their romance as much. What kept me glued to this one is we get to see everyone that we've come to know in this series. And we see a great deal of them. Also the action and the plot was intense. I love the ending with Jacob and Adam. I really wish we could have gotten more time with them on this front. Because we don't, due to other things going on, this ending feels a bit rushed. Incomplete. But over all this was a pretty good read. It's my least favorite of the series, but still a good read nonetheless.

This book is relatively short and I actually wish this is the length of Noah's book, with so many things to wrap up before the series end. It spans the longest 400+ yrs period yet at the same time major events only take place more or less in a day.

Unfortunately, with Noah's experience, I was reluctant to start this without some reassurances from fellow goodreaders and was blindsided by all the WTF spoilers before I started, though to be frank I'd have gotten there pretty soon had I started the book by myself. The one thing I'm very bad at is I'd need to go to the end to make sure all my characters are gonna get their HEA so when I read the first third of the book, I was not as bothered as my fellow goodreaders and was not hugging a box of tissues by page 60, though am still curious to see how Frank can bring this about and pull it off. Way I see it, there are just so many unknowns, whether people can exist in parallel universe, whether there will be enough time to connect our protagonists to make it a believable story as they are also going to be working on a very short time-frame. I love how she makes this work.

The H is actually more adorable due to the fact that he's totally displaced and disoriented. I laughed at how he reacts to things (especially love the scene where he patiently pointed out his clothes are definitely not the temperature the h thinks it is). I think he'd not have been as adorable if he's confident and assured in his own time, and would have been a mega overdose of testoterone and chauvinist. He reminds me a bit of Elijah as he's more laid back, enjoys a good laugh and also appreciates the h's quirks and snarky comments, not to mention her outrageous flirtiness. He is actually very patient with the h, and seems to be the only one that understands her and see through all her masks, after apologising for his appalling behaviour. It really was funny how flabbergasted he was once he figured out what they meant to each other (and quite understandable as based on our knowledge from previous books, it'd have been something like hitting the holy grail and he would definitely not have expected it). I already figured out his element before his story based on what I recall of the prophecy and also how the installments are laid out. I am a bit surprised no one actually went back to take a look at it and figure out what was missing...

The h is definitely a challenge to like. She's been really bothering on cruel and uncaring based on her actions from previous books, though I recall her first appearance to give out quite a different vibe. As we get to her pov, we finally figured out why she's the way she is, though we also know in general her species is more or less all pretty selfish, apathetic and self serving with very shallow emotions. Turns out once you get to know her, she isn't what we think she is at all, or rather, besides that, she also has a lot of other more likable layers. Also once she got the mating zing going, she gets to experience all the range of emotions like others and it's understandably overwhelming (I didn't get that when I was reading Damien's as it's not truly as obvious, Damien being not as at the opposite end of the spectrum, but I think this is a bit like the carps).

The focus in this book is more on the wrapping up of the major story arc (which I have been DYING to get to)and with the major twists and turns Frank is throwing out, not a lot of airtime is given to this couple, let alone bedtime. I actually prefer this being short, sweet and intense instead of previous books' style of talking ad nauseum on a problem I don't see as a problem or going at it like rabbits every 10 pages. There is definitely a strong connection between the couple since their first meet, and also a lot of tension that just teases your senses and build intensity (and H is REAl creative in this considering what he can do with his element). There is the expected denial from the h but it's not too draggy and it's dealt with quite swiftly. I think it's sort of fitting considering the h is pretty brassy and not one to stick her head in the sand for long and also considering how subconsciously she already felt quite deeply for the H for a very long time.

Now as for the plot, it's really quite stellar. I initially thought the time travel will take place right away and was a bit miffed and impatient to read through the years of pain and steady decline, especially when a lot of characters we adore are not doing or acting well (I haven't read the novella yet, so I guess I was not as outraged as the couple was really just secondary character to me at this stage). I know it's going to be a go back bring forward plot, but I kept wondering which h will end up with the H and also what will happen to Leah(I'd have been disappointed if we loose the snarky h we have all along).

The battle scenes are also done very well. I get to see that the H really does seem to kick arse, understandable considering he's quite a lot older than Jacob and Elijah. The final battle made me stay up half the night so I can just see this evil biatch going down in flames (considering I've been chanting die die biatch already for nearly a whole week, I need this closure even if I miss my beauty sleep). I really was screaming at the h AGAIN how very stupid her actions are, not to think it being totally unfair that the H is AGAIN! (first was his niece, but that's more forgivable considering she might not have any idea how powerful each person is)not given a very thorough prep course on what totally unexpected things he should be expecting with the evil devil. Oh my gawd it's like leading a lamb to slaughter! Am so glad though when he kicks arse doing hand to hand combat. The girls also did a great job doing their own arse kicking and of course given what the evil biatch's done all through this series, it'd have been great if all the main characters in this series got there for the final showdown, though of course it might seem a bit unfair if we have 6 pairs going against her. In the end though, totally satisfactory even if it's the girl that got the final punch, so to speak. Though for the life of me, why the everloving heck would they not turn that piece of garbage immediately to ash????!?!?!?!?! I hope they at least burn the other one or that might not be the last of the series...

All in all, there are still quite a few loose ends that's not been fully address. Things like who that apprentice was, what the mistral plans on for their future, and what will happen to the couples etc etc. We also never were told what a space demon can do (manipulates space? that doesn't sound too useful quite frankly not to mention quite disastrous...) I really do enjoy this though I do hope for a grander epilogue where we can some nice things going on with them all a few years down the road.

Quick & Dirty: Thrilling, mysterious and sexy paranormal romance with some time travel and a whole lotta arse kickin.

Opening Sentence: “There’s too many of them!”

The Review:

Okay, so apparently this reviewer is even more out of certain loops than was previously expected. Looking through Goodreads, I just found out that Noah, the book before Adam, was supposed to have been the last of this series. *GASP* Well, I for one am glad that Ms. Frank decided to dust off her Nightwalker cap and bring us another story. Seriously, how silly to think we would be satisfied with the villains in this series left to walk free among the masses. Also some readers, myself included, would be quite happy if she would hang around and finish off some of the other characters’ storylines, especially now that we have met a few of them at an older age.

I found the character of Adam an interesting choice for the hero of what again appears to be the last of the series. I admit I had a bit of an issue remembering any of his previous storyline. Actually, other than knowing I had read the books starring his brothers, I had absolutely no recollection of him whatsoever. Which makes me wonder why choose him. It also makes me want to ask, if this is definitely the last of this series, why not have Seth and/or Leah as its main characters? Thinking back to all the revelations from the past books, these two would seem the more logical and perhaps the more popular choice. And here is where I lodge my biggest complaint. This book concludes the series in true “popular” horror movie fashion. It solves just enough of the crises to be a plausible ending, but leaves plenty of loose ends for a series of sequels. This drives me crazy, in movies and in books. I do not enjoy the endless cliffhanger, the constant “I wonder if we will finally find out what happens in the end.” But that is very likely just me.

Otherwise, I am very glad that the main storyline of this book was the end of some very bad dudes. These people have been asking for it for a very long time, and it made me want to get up and dance when they got their just desserts.

Now a bit on the characters, etc. This series is based in the present in a Hungarian forest which borders the vampire lands in Romania. Jacquelyn Frank has built her characters their own little world hidden within these woods, surrounded by peaceful villages. You would expect a level of serenity, and you do get some of that, but demons, as with any other paranormal culture, do have their good times.

Ms. Frank does a marvelous job bringing her characters to life in this and all her associated series’. Adam is the requisite supernatural hottie, gifted with the power of water, controlling it and becoming it. And ladies, who wouldn’t want a man who can literally caress every single part of your body, all at the same time. *swoon* I get chills just contemplating it. Adam is also mostly everything you could ask for in a hero, loyal, smart, good with his hands, and willing to sacrifice everything for the ones he loves. Everything including life as he knows it, given up to save his brother 400 years in the future.

Meanwhile, the vampire Jasmine… wait! A vampire and a demon… in love?? *gasp* I actually love this part of her writing. It’s always interesting to see what comes when paranormal creatures date outside of their group species, and not just your average paranormal-human matchups. Ms. Frank matches demons with vamps and druids, vamps with lycans, etc. Sounds like an all around good time to me.

Anyway, Jasmine is sure one tough cookie. Well, on the outside anyway. Anyone who can hold onto a love for four centuries has to have a bit of soft on the inside. Jasmine is also fiercely loyal to those she calls family and there are no ends she will not go for them, even if those ends are personally hurtful.

When a chance at revenge against those who have harmed them and their loved ones arises, both Adam and Jasmine are prepared to lay it all on the line. Heroes in my mind.

Overall, I liked Adam and Jasmine’s story quite a bit. Ignoring the whole “end of the series” issues, I would recommend it to my friends, if paranormals were their thing. Ms. Frank’s books are always a pleasure and I am hoping for a continuation of the series. Think it will help if I ask really nice? Pretty please, with a cherry on top??

Notable Scene:

“Who are you?” Adam demanded, moving forward to get in her face. “Why should we trust anything about you when you stink of magic? You even helped Ruth cast that thing she was going to use to capture me and Damien!”

“But she did not capture you, did she? All I have done is help cast the trap that finally caught the Demon traitor Ruth. Thin on that a moment.”

She moved slightly, tipping her head back and taking a deep breath. I was as if she were breathing in freedom.

“Ah…here it comes,” she breathed.

She held out her hands and Jasmine could see the tips of her fingers fading away. For the first time, emotion broke through the girl’s features. Tears filled her kaleidoscoping eyes.

“It means it’s all changed,” she breathed to Jasmine. “It means I did what I was supposed to do. I only pray this time things turn out for the better.” She looked at Jasmine with a momentary flash of worry. “It will be better now, won’t it?”

The girl was fading quickly, but Jasmine felt her pain and thought she understood, at least in a small sense, what was happening.

“Yes,” she assured her softly. “Trust us. We’ll make it better for you.”

The girl let out a stark sob of relief.

And then she was gone.

2. Gideon

3. Elijah

4. Damien

Ahhhh, a fine finish to a great series. "Adam" is the final book of the "Nightwalker" series and wow they went out with a bang. HOWEVER, I still maintain that "Noah", the book before this one, was the best of series!

"Adam" was the trickiest of the series. And also the most thought provoking if you sit down to ponder the ideas brought up. I realize, of course, that this is a work of fiction and that most likely, we will never experience time travel but its STILL fun to think about and its fun to tie your brain in knots trying to work through the theoretical problems. But, I digress.... Let me START to explain...

Oh, and also: ***SORT OF SPOILER ALERT FOR THE REST OF THE REVIEW***

"Adam" starts a few months (?), maybe a couple of years after we left off in "Noah". We jump into a battle that's raging between Jacob and Bella and the Evil Bitch. Their daughter, Leah (a 7 year old Time Demon) is also with them but I don't know that we ever find out WHY she was with them. Jacob, Bella and Leah are running from some of the "Summoned", one of the Evil Bitch's specialties. If you don't know what a "Summoned" is, you'll have to go back and find my review of "Jacob", the first book of the series. Anyways, they're running and the run straight into the Evil Bitch. Through a series of miniscule mistakes, Jacob and Bella are KILLED!!!!! Evil Bitch goes after Leah but Leah is able to squeeze into a spot juuuust out of the Evil Bitch's reach. Jasmine, a very powerful and very old Vampire, comes along a minute too late to save Jacob and Bella but Evil Bitch has just run off and she is able to help Leah get to safety. But not before Leah begs to have Jasmine save Bella. But Jasmine knows, unlike Leah, that even if Jasmine DID save Bella, Bella would wither and die within 2 weeks because her Imprinted mate, Jacob, really IS dead. It breaks Jasmine's heart (this is the first time we even see that she HAS a heart!) but she whisks Leah away.

We come back and its 10 years later. Leah has grown into her powers a little bit. But everything is different. And shitty. Since Jacob and Bella's death, the Demon community has fractured. Evil Bitch and her minions are more powerful than ever. In fact, they are unstoppable. The Rogue Vampires are also getting more and more powerful. Pretty much everyone is hiding underground and no one knows what to do. Not even Noah. Some of the people we've come to know and love over the series have died, some have gone insane (no, really) and none are the warm, wonderful people they used to be. Leah has heard a story or two about her long, lost Uncle Adam. He went missing 400 years ago. No one was ever able to find him and his remains were never found. Some people assumed that he had been Summoned on that Samhain night, long ago. Adam was the Enforcer before Jacob had to take over. Adam was the most powerful Demon Enforcer that had ever lived. Jacob was devastated when his brother went missing and it changed who he was and who he became. As Leah gathers more information on Adam (she loves hearing stories about her father and anyone connected to him), she is expounding on an idea she had. She has been thinking about it for years. She has a plan and now she has information. She is a Time Demon. She can manipulate time, as we saw in "Noah". In a moment of extreme duress, she figures out how to utilize that power and transfers herself backwards in time. 400 years backwards in time. There, she can find Adam and bring him to the future present so that he can save Leah's mother and father. But what does that mean for everyone else? What happens to Leah when he future self transports Adam back to her past self and she is in the past as two different beings?? What about the ripples that her actions have created, like so many ripples in an infinite pond? Does it matter? Did the present have so much to offer? And what DOES change? CAN Adam save the people she loves most? And what of the Evil Bitch? How can she finally be defeated???

The answers to all of these questions and more can be found in this final book of the series. I highly recommend it. The entire thing. I was moved to tears when Bella and Jacob were killed. Even moreso when you read about these people that you have come to know and who have become so unlike themselves. Now that I have the advantage of having read the entire series, I have to say I loved it. I will read it again. What great writing. What amazing characters. I've fallen in love. So much in love, is it possible that I've "Imprinted" upon this series???? :)

Let me start off by saying that THE NIGHTWALKERS series was my first paranormal romance series. I fell in love with this series and became totally hooked and awaited every release. I was so upset when I heard "Noah" was the last book. So, imagine my surprise (and everyone else's) when I found out 3 years later that Jacki was writing another NIGHTWALKERS book, Woo Hoo!!. Even bigger surprise was when I (and Michelle) were offered an ARC of "Adam" and an opportunity to review it! (I was squeeing for days, and I am still am).
But the big question was, after 3 years, could Jacki make this Nightwalker book as amazing as the original five books?
The answer…..YES SHE CAN!!! Jacki is a literary genius!

To review this book without giving away spoilers is VERY difficult so I cannot give you many details, just my overall take on the book. Once you read the story you will understand why.

With THE NIGHTWALKERS being one of my favorite series and the characters so close to my heart, I almost did not want to read the book anymore when I finished the prologue. I was outraged, in total disbelief, cursing and crying my eyes out and like I said, this was all BEFORE the first chapter. Something horrible happens that leaves the NIghtwalker world (and readers) devastated and heartbroken. The rest of the book was just as incredible, a complete rollercoaster ride of emotions and events.

My biggest concern was how is Jacki going to bring back Adam after he'd been missing for over 400 years? No one had a clue as to what happened to him. He just disappeared one day and was never heard from again and was assumed dead. She surprised me how she played out the reappearance of Adam and I was not let down at all. We also get to find out exactly what happened to Adam the day he disappeared.

Adam is the epitome of the alpha male. He is proud, arrogant and the most powerful water demon in existence. I liked that we got to see Adam a bit vulnerable in this book due to his circumstances. We also got to see glimpses of Adam and Jacob when they were younger, interacting with their parents and each other, as well as a younger Noah.

Jasmine, as always, is a tough as nails vampire. As an immortal she gets bored easily with her long life and likes to go to ground for time to pass. Jasmine is intrigued by Adam from the moment she meets him because Adam makes her feel, which is a first for Jasmine.

Adam and Jasmine's chemistry was sizzling. From the moment they met, they felt an instant attraction and were drawn to each other. You can feel their chemistry coming off the pages.

Throughout the book, Ruth, a powerful mind demon and her psychopath vampire mate Nicodemous, are back and more powerful than ever, wreaking havoc amongst the Nightwalkers. No one is strong enough to defeat the both of them together. Their only hope is Adam. Now that he is back, he might just be powerful enough to destroy them both.

Another part of the book that I loved was that we got to see all of the previous Nightwalkers that we all fell in love with. We got to see the Enforcers, Jacob and his mate Isabella, along with their daughter Leah. Gideon and Legna, as well as their son, Seth. Elijah and his mate, the Lycanthrope Queen, Sienna also made an appearance, as well as Damien, the Vampire Prince and his mate Princess Syreena. We also got to see Noah, the Demon King and his mate Kestra.

I also think the way Jacki left things off, that we hopefully will see more books in THE NIGHTWALKERS world. Devoted fans will be wishing for more books in this amazing series.

If you have not read THE NIGHTWALKER series, I definitely recommend you do. The books can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading them in order.

If you already couldn't tell, I absolutely LOVED this book. I was happy to get a Nightwalker fix and I hope there will be many more to come.

I give "ADAM" 5 out of 5 stars.

I have to say, as much as I liked Jasmine’s character throughout this series, I really couldn’t see much of a story with her. So when I found out this book was about her, I was both excited but wary at the same time. I really had nothing to worry about.

Right off the bat, I went through a range of emotions from being pissed off at the author to being happy again. Then I became slightly bored, but only slightly. All of it was necessary to the overall plot of the story, and I’m very glad it was there. Otherwise, the book would have lost all of the impact it had in the end.

I really enjoyed the history of the other Nightwalkers that we got a few chapters of. It was very interesting to see the differences in how they were then compared to how we’ve known them so far. Of course, all of this leads up to how Adam and Jasmine begin their lives together.

It was fun to see Adam adjust to his new home and all the changes from what he was used to, and to see Jasmine go from being this ice queen to someone who is afraid to feel. The way they explored not only the world around them, but each other, was captivating. I felt like I was figuring them out just as they were, like I was in their heads.

This book really made me feel for not only Adam and Jasmine, but the rest of the Nightwalkers as well. The author really tore your heart out and crushed it into pieces before putting it back together and making you appreciate how everyone’s lives turned out. It was definitely an experience I won’t soon forget. I wish the ending had been a bit more climatic, but for what it’s worth, I was not disappointed.

Adam and Jasmine were so right for each other, even with all their differences. They had a series connection of a very intimate kind that left me hot and yearning for the completion of their journey. Every page I turned, I got sucked in further, hoping that not only would everything work out, but that they would have the kind of love that truly makes them happy. The romance between them was sultry and perfect. It was different and hot and incredibly perfect. There was no way it could have been any different. It left me hot and wanting more…a lot more.

This final installment was a great ending to an amazing series. I’m sad to leave this one behind, but it was well worth the journey. It was interesting. It was a nail-biter. It was enthralling. It was 100% hot, passionate, lustful, and full of sex and love.

If you've read the other books in this series, like I have, then this was like riding an emotional roller coaster to hell and back again. I was so floored at the beginning that I didn't even take notes. It went a bit like this:

Turn page, turn page, gasp in shock, turn page, look at cover to make sure I was reading the right book, turn page, gasp, stare unbelieving at my husband like he could somehow fix it, turn page, turn page, and repeat.

Things like this make it exceptionally hard to review a book because I want to talk about why I read voraciously for hours until this book was finished, only I can't really do that. I did manage a few notes towards the end, but because I also have a strict no spoiler policy, and any discussion of the plot would ruin it for other readers, I can't talk about those parts either. Maybe I should start a chat or something.

Here's what I can tell you:

I love the characters in this series and I've been a big fan since the very beginning, so it's easy enough to recommend this book. Adam is an excellent addition and he definitely adds to the ongoing storyline. These books do have a continuing story arc that crosses from one book to the next, however, it isn't difficult to read this as a stand alone. I didn't have time to reacquaint myself with previous books, but that didn't create any issues for me trying to follow along.

The romance between Jasmine and Adam is intense, hotter than hell, sweet as sin, and they fall very, very fast. In fact, that is my only real complaint with the story because that kind of love takes time to build, and they definitely skip the getting to know you stage. It's a believability issue for me and fated mate or no, I find it hard to believe that lasting love occurs over the course of a day or two. Lust, yes. Even a level of respect and trust can be achieved fairly quickly, but as with most mate-style romances, they accept their fate without much arguing. I still like them, the book still put me through the emotional wringer and I still want more from Jacquelyn Frank. If you enjoy reading Alexandra Ivy or Lara Adrian, then The Nightwalkers should be a good fit for you. If you like fast paced action that keeps you on the edge of your seat then the same goes.

Fans of the Nightwalker series pay attention! Author Jacquelyn Frank has listened to our plea's, bribery and outright groveling of continuing the series with Adam. Let me tell you that the author did not disappoint the readers with this new book!

While this wasn't my favorite book in the series -- mainly because I am a sucker for Noah -- it still had the magic the readers come to expect from the Nightwalker world. Adam is the oldest brother to Jacob and Kane. Long ago, Adam disappeared from not only his home and time, but from his job as Enforcer for the Demon world. Jacob searched for him but found no trace of him. When Adam mysteriously shows up centuries later, everyone is surprised to see him including Jacob.

I will tell you that I heard the first chapter of this book had been leaked. (boo to who did that!) If you somehow read that first chapter -- again boo to all of you -- you were hit with a big surprise. What you don't know is how it is relates to the rest of the story. You must have faith in your author readers! Jacob's daughter has a special talent and it plays a key role in everything.

The one thing I didn't like about this book was the time jumping within the first half of the book. I started to get a headache from trying to keep track of the different times we were reading about, but eventually everything does come together and make sense. Before you even attempt to ask me, yes the evil Ruth is back and she is back with a vengeance in this installment. The way they handle her and wrap up this book was perfect. I couldn't think of a better revenge towards Ruth than what the author gives us.

If you are a fan of the Nightwalker series and have been waiting not so patiently for this book to arrive, trust me in saying that you shouldn't be too disappointed in this book. You will see previous characters play major roles in this story and familiar faces from other spin-offs of the story. I loved how the intertwined into one book. This just goes to show how readers can influence their authors in getting what we want! Thank you Jacquelyn Frank for listening to your readers!

I cried.. yep. 25 pages in and I was crying. I haven't cried from a book since Dumbledore kicked the bucket in the Harry Pooper series.

Jacquelyn Frank has a way with conveying emotions through words. I thought the beginning to her story was unique and very emotional. It made me hurt to see how our favorite Demon's lives had turned out. I cried for Leah.

Frank is clever at creating worlds that are unique. I read all of her books but nothing has the impact like her Nightwalkers series. I've come to the conclusion it's because the Demons coexist along side humans making it more believable. I'm automatically more emotionally involved in this world.

I don't really want to go into the plot or give anything away. I really enjoyed this book. I only wished the big bad meeting her "end" would have included more of the main characters we love. Where was Noah or Elijah? I loved Jasmine and Adam both. Both were strong characters. I also felt like Noah automatically sending Adam off with Jasmine after he's been missing for 400 years was a bit unrealistic. I understand the urgency to track Ruth. it felt like no one cared enough about Adam to cook him a meal, toss back a drink, and bond before sending him into mortal danger. I'd have liked to have seen a little more time spent with Adam assimilating into the new era he is in. Heard him get to know Kane.

Don't let those points deter you from this book. Well written, action packed, sexy. I have read hundreds of books in this genre. Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalker World is in my top 5 series to recommend to anyone willing to hear me talk about it. :) PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE find a way to continue this series!!!
