Shoestring Chic is a charmingly illustrated book of inside information for women who appreciate fashion, beauty, and shopping―but lack a black Amex account. In today's economy, who isn't living on a budget? Vibrant art complements the book's 101 tips on living the luxe life without spending a fortune.
This is an itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie little book of just 149 pages and that includes a 3 page index! And inside the book there is lots and lots of space dedicated to illustrations, fancy font quotes from "fashionestas" I've never heard of before...OH! and just an itsy bit of fashion advice to get up to the magic number of 101.
OH MY! Just think--I could have actually BOUGHT this book instead of rather mindlessly grabbing it off the "NEW"shelf at my local library. But then again I probably wouldn't have even considered actually spending good, hard earned money on this bit of fluff!
However, it was a bit of fun to glance through this evening after a hectic work day. And I - who currently do not even have an up to date passport -- really appreciated the advice where to stay in Paris and what flea market is best in London and what to do if (God Forbid!) one has to fly "coach"!
Cute little book, good for perusing during commercial breaks if you borrowed it from the library; highly doubtful you'd be pleased to have spent the money as most of the 'tips' are rather common sense, but certainly helpful for those who don't actually NEED to be on a shoestring since they're jet-setting all over the world, but still want to stay rich by not overspending... Great illustrations; clear why the author is famous for such.
The best thing about this book is the beautiful illustrations. The tips themselves are fairly ho-hum and not that realistic for anyone who is truly on a budget.
If you read blog and magazines as much as I do, you won't find many new ideas here. Still, it was a quick read that might just get your creative juices flowing.
