By night, the winged warrior Antony Medichi fights the death vampires who threaten his world. By day, he hunts the rogue vampires who invade Mortal Earth. But deep in his heart rages the fiercest battle of all—his soul-searing passion for the one mortal he is sworn to protect…the one woman he is doomed to love.

Parisa Lovejoy is so beautiful, and so powerful, that Antony cannot fight the feelings she arouses. But his unexpected love only intensifies his strength as her Guardian—a strength that is put to the ultimate test when Parisa is abducted. Her captor, Commander Greaves, enslaves mortal women for their blood. If Parisa hopes to survive—and ascend—she must forge an even deeper bond with Antony…in the flames of eternity.

I confess I've had a love affaire with vampires for several years now, especially warrior vampires, the kind found in the books of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and JR Ward. Though I've been published in Regency Romance under the pseudonym Valerie King--and yes one of my Regency Novellas features a vampire--one day I woke up knowing I had to create my own contemporary world of the warrior vampire.

For some mystical, magical reason, early in the process, my vampires appeared with enormous beautiful wings and it has been the most amazing experience to include flight in my novels, in both battle scenes and scenes involving spectacle. My special vampire world, published by St. Martin's Press, is introduced in the first book called, ASCENSION (12-28-2010). The second book, BURNING SKIES (May of 2011), opens up the world a little bit more. And even as I write this, I'm on the final draft of my third novel, WINGS OF FIRE (September of 2011). What a thrill it has been to live with my ascended vampires through the creation of this extraordinary, multi-dimensional world!

For more information about my unique take on the vampire mythos, check out my website at carisroane.com and my book release video on YouTube by putting in the search phrase, Caris Roane Ascension.

With every hope you'll enjoy reading my books set in the World of Ascension, All my best, Caris Roane

For me The series is getting alittle better with each book. I liked this book a lot better then the last two and I like a lot of the recurring characters and the building for their personalities and the worlds ... This book would have been a whole lot better if I liked Parisa which I didn't she was a whiny, chicken most of the book. Also do they all have to fight the breh-hedden so damn much really I would think finding your mate would be a great thing not like the plague don't get me wrong I like a build up in a love story but they so far are all like "I Like you, no I hate you , no I like you, but I can't let myself like you, I like you again ,no I don't wanna be your mate I feel trapped" I mean really It must be so hard to find your mate who is sexy, sweet, manly, strong, and great in the sack why would anyone want that!!!! I hope at least one couple doesn't fight it til the last few pages for God sakes the drama can come for the war or something else can't they have a pretty romance just sayin! I am looking forward to Fiona and Jean-Pierre's story alot I was so happy when she found out her daughter was alive......... over all good read

I would have given this an extra star, if it wasn't for the heroine, who annoyed me. If it wasn't for Warrior Medichi, I would have given up. Definitely not as faced paced as the first two in the series, but still a great read.

After a rough patch with reading Hey God, Are You Really Really Up There? I needed a palette cleanser, and a healthy shot of paranormal romance was exactly was the doctor ordered. I fell in love with this series from the first book, and as the series progresses, I fall more and more in love with the world. This book opened up some more of Madame Endelle (will she find a breh eventually during the series?), and we actually meet James, the Sixth Dimension being who has been giving a gentle hand to the Warriors against their arch-enemy, Commander Greaves.

All of this while the main story of Antony and Parisa blossoms, and more forward story propels us into the next books in the series. I love the way the author introduces just enough forward story to keep us interested in reading the next in the series, while also keeping the focus on the actual story of that particular book.

The war between Commander Greaves and Madame Endelle have come to a head, and are slowly tipping in the Commander’s favor (not a good thing for those who have not read the series yet). However, this is just the third book in a series that is at present count 6 books long with one novella between books 2 and 3, so I’m hoping to see more of the good forces winning.

Ok, now I know that you see the 3 stars up there but don't think that I didn't like the book. I just had a few more issues with the characters than I had in the previous books. But let me tell you why and then you can decide for yourself, ok?

By now, you know what everyone is, what ascenders are, mortal earth/second earth, breh-hedden, etc. So I won't explain anything; I'm just gonna jump in.

So this one is about Parisa and Antony. Antony Medichi is a GREAT hero. He's sexy (duh), he's huge and muscular... and he makes his own WINE!!! Gah! LOVE HIM!! He has this great villa and all of these gardens and everything. He's perfect. But he's a perfect guy too! We start off the book with his lady love (Parisa) kidnapped by a bad guy. Antony is doing everything within his power to find out where she's being held. But it isn't easy. No one seems to know. But every night, before bed, he's able to hear Parisa call to him, once, and he knows that she's still alive. It gives him the ability to keep searching for her and to keep hoping he'll find her.

Find her he does but I doubt you'll be glad about it. A whinier heroine, I haven't seen in a long while. To be honest, I couldn't stand her. Her situation wasn't all THAT bad. She was kidnapped for 3 months. Which is awful, don't get me wrong. But in the next book, the heroine has been in captivity for over ONE HUNDRED YEARS! 3 months and this bitch is all wounded and shit? Nothing bad even happened to her. She wasn't raped, touched, beat, hurt, nada. She has been clothed and fed and well cared for. Captivity is captivity, I get it. But she was just SO WHINEY. And she's dragging her feet with Antony. Why? She was a goddamn librarian on mortal earth and here, she's special and amazing and has wonderful powers that can bring peace to everyone. What the eff are you cryin' about!??!

Yeah, yeah the sex is hot. Whatever. If I heard ONE MORE TIME about how big her tits were, I was going to throw up on my book and send it to the author. Its awesome that she has big boobs. Its nice to see big-breasted chicks in books. I don't particularly like when the author talks about how the heroine's breasts fit in the palm of our hero's hand or whatever. I really can't relate (sorry). So I'm GLAD she had big breasts. But couldn't she have gotten a fucking shirt that FIT? It was always the "buttons were strained across her large breasts" or the leather weapons harness didn't fit quite right because of her bountiful breasts. You're in another effing dimension! MAKE A BIGGER HARNESS FOR HER DAMN TITS!!! Jesus H! How about a bra, bitch?! Sheesh! I'm sorry but this character, for me, what like finger nails on a chalk board. I was so happy when I was done that I didn't have to hear her bitch and moan about her lack of choices... guh. You have wings, lady, shut up.

So, now that I got THAT off my chest, I can say that this was an ok book. Medichi saved the book for me. If he wasn't so great, I would have just quit this book and quit the series. Also, I think the author is borrowing from Gena Showalter a little too much: we're being introduced to other story lines more and more and the central characters from the next book are in THIS book a lot. I wish she would stay focused on the current characters. Maybe if she had, I would have found a reason to like Parisa. As it is, even when Parisa finally decides to live her life with this amazing man in this amazing world, its too late and I couldn't care less.

I like this series and I'm enjoying this author. No, she's not revolutionizing the paranormal romance genre but, to be honest, I don't need that. What I DO need? Hot heroes, awesome and kick-ass heroines and an amazing new world. For almost all of the books (so far) in this series, those things are delivered. This particular book? Not so much. IF you are a forgiving reader, go ahead and add this to the TBR. If you are an exacting reader who needs specific things and has high expectations, you may need to skip this entry in the series.

But don't give up hope... I'm already reading the next one and its great!! :)

Oh My Goodness! Caris Roane does it again with Wings of Fire it’s super-hot and exciting, I loved it! This has become one of my favorite series because Caris is consistent in keeping the romance tops along with the paranormal elements complex, clear to read and exciting.

Anthony and Parisa romance sizzled on these pages. When we last left these two in the second book, Parisa was taken by Greaves. This book starts off with Anthony still looking for Parisa and he has been for a while. He will not stop until he finds her. Parisa wants to escape from Greaves, but she hasn’t been able to just yet. While being held captive Parisa meets a lady that she finds a connection to and really wants to help her, but with no way to even help herself get out she sure can’t help anyone else, just yet that is. Graves is having a woman put to death to only be brought to life again and it‘s not pretty. Once Parisa finds this out and she escapes no one will stop her from trying to save this woman, even Anthony.

Once Anthony and Parisa are back together they have a lot on their plate, but the one thing they can’t escape from is the breh-hidden. I myself found this book way hotter in the romance and sex department than the first two. This couple is very special and let me tell you once they start their Breh-hidden OMG. It was different hot and awesome. I give you a couple of clues floating and wings on fire. Once their Breh-hidden starts, something bad starts happening that could cost all of the warriors everything.

Again you meet the next hero and heroine in this book so you get a good feel for them, I just love that. You also get the other warrior and their now wives along with the head honcho Endelle. I can’t wait for the next book to come out, I already like the heroine.

This is one hot fast pace action story that no PNR reader should be without. Although this can be a standalone I would suggest starting from the beginning or you’ll miss some good stuff. Glossy is in the back.

Jesus, this series just keeps getting better and better! And I will dare say I just got to love it as much as series like the BDB, IAD, LOTU and more. And NO, I am not crazy, it's just that every book is better than the last. I adore the plot but more than anything I just love the characters. I think there's no way to mix one character with another because they are so unique and amazing in their own way. I can say that the very best thing about this series is that it got really complex and unpredictable, it's just not possible to anticipate what will happen next... how not to love that, after so many easy to foretell pnr-romance series?

On this installment we get to read about Parisa and Medichi. We got to know a bit of this 2 amazing characters on the previous installment. The story begins with an abducted Parisa and a desperate Medichi who would do anything to get his Breh back. Once they get together again sparks fly, the sex-scenes are steamy and the sexual tension way too high. Still how to know if they really want to be together or if they can't help it? Well we will see this two characters fighting with everything they got to find out. While both suffered terribly in their past they'll have to decide if they wanna give another try to love.

Possible spoiler:

I just can't wait to get more books form this AMAZING series!

Wings of Fire is the third book in the Guardians of Ascension and man I am having such a BLAST with these books. I always love some yummy angel lovin' but these angels aren't your average and boy they are badass in so many forms. And it always shocks me in that these books aren't more read than they are. And with each book we get hints to the next couple so it makes you want to read the next book so quickly. And I really love that this author does that with this series, it just has you eager for more and wanting to that pairings' story and immediately.

Wings of Fire is a story that features Antony and Parisa. And in the beginning of the story, we know that they have a connection to each other. Parisa is a human ascended to angel and has been kidnapped by their enemies and been in their hands for three months. Antony is literally going insane at the thought of his mate in the hands of his enemy, not knowing if she is truly safe until they bond in such a way that stretches time and space and what we call "psychic voyerism" Parisa is surprise that she has been harmed...yet. She is practically kept in a golden cage, and to dress and look pretty, but no harm upon her. But toward one of her final days in captivity, a woman runs to her and claims she is also being held prisoner there. And after Parisa is rescued by Antony and the other guardians, she is determined to save Fiona and the other women being used as "blood slaves". As Parisa and Antony connect with each other, they are also adapting to a relationship that will have its own unique elements and will have to overcome hidden reservations to embrace their true love for each other...

Wings of Fire is a unique story and I really enjoyed it for the most part. I struggled with these two so caught up on their "pasts" like lets just have hot sex and then we will move on because they couldn't let go of past fears. It was a bit frustrating because the first half I was just loving the flow of their relationship and then they get caught up in their memories of past relationships and just didn't want to really be together anymore? But yes lets continue to have sex like bunnies to get it out of our systems even though we are fated to be together and we know there is more to our bond than just sex. Eventually they figured things out, but it was so annoying to see them just put their relationship constantly on hold.

I did find myself loving these two even if they wanted me to shake some common sense into them at times. Parisa is a strong heroine, and I love how Antony is so protective but also equally supportive of her even though some elements scares him to pieces. But as Parisa grows within herself, she discovers what she is capable of, and Antony is able to discover his own strengths in time. I especially adored her friendships with the other women and stood up to the head lady of the group. And hidden or future relationship hinted at??!! Please let it be so.

Overall I found Wings of Fire to be a tender, kick ass romance that has you on edge of suspense alongside our pair, cheering them on in their adventures, thrills, and joys!

"The search is futile When carried out by the avenging heart. —Collected Proverbs, Beatrice of Fourth."

Warrior Antony Medichi has been searching for his breh Parissa Lovejoy for 3 months now. Pariasa, the famous Mortal with Wings has been taken by the evil Rith(loyal servant of Greaves). By night Medichi does his duty...fighting the death vamps and by day he does everything in his power to retrieve Parissa from Riths evil clutches.

This was by far my favorite of the series. There were a lot of other things going on in this world than just Parissa and Antony...which I greatly enjoyed! That Greaves is one EVIL mofo!! Parissa discovers that Greaves has been keeping Death and Ressurection slaves to keep his army and Administrators supplied with dying blood. While in captivity Parissa stumbles across Fiona...she finds out that she's Greaves oldest D and R slave and is appaled! She's been there for a hundred years. Once Parissa finally escapes she makes it her number one priority to save Fiona and the other slaves. I really admired her courage and her willingness to fight and not be a victim any longer.

The best part of this story was Antony and Parissa's love story. They really had a lot of reasons for not wanting to fall in love and acccept the breh-hedden. Since losing his wife and unborn child before his ascension, Medichi has lived a warriors life. Believing that his abilility to fall in love died along with his family. But Parissa is proof positive that he really can love and is scared shitless. Not only at love but the possiblity that he will fail her as he feels he did her and his wife. It was quite extrodinary to witness thier journey. And finally their surrender to one another and willingness to not live without the other!

"The first path seduces by promise, The second appeals to pride, But the worthy path demands surrender. —Collected Proverbs, Beatrice of Fourth"

Then there was the potential for another warrior and his breh. U just know I will adore Jean-Pierre's book!! That french accent just does it for me:)

All in all, I loved it loved it loved it! Love this series cant wait for the next one!

Oh and let me share my favorite quote in this one. Of course its from the baddest chica in literary history....Endelle!!

“You know, your speech patterns have changed. You used to be rather stiff in the ass. You’re loosening up. I think that’s a good thing. Medichi good in bed? Is that why you seem so different? Does he satisfy you? He should. He’s hung like a horse.”

I love her whit and barbs...cant wait to see who she ends up with! Its gonna be awesome:)

I'm actually annoyed with myself for continuing this series despite the numerous issues I have with it. I can't seem to help myself though. There are some good things about it: the concept and some aspects of the plot.

The writing is often juvenile, inconsistent in tone, and just doesn't serve the story very well. The story could also use some editing. There are several instances of misused words, and grammatical errors a good editor should have found.

When the author finds a point she wants you to understand she doesn't drive it home so much as beat you bloody with it over and over again. It made for a lot of words that contribute nothing to the plot and everything to my frustration.

I think the idea here is to portray the men of this series as powerful and quick-to violence with a deep warrior streak that bleeds into all aspects of their lives (ie. repeat JR Ward's efforts). I assume they are intended to be shown as deeply bound together as brothers through centuries of battle. Unfortunately, what comes across is: childish temper tantrums as an overreaction to minor provocations and (presumably unintended) homoerotic awkwardness. I like my homoeroticism well planned and carefully written. This seems to come as a result of badly written dialogue and flowery descriptions.

Too often authors write about immortals with several centuries behind them but seem to forget the maturity and ability to think things through that comes with age. Instead, the men in this story react like horny teenage boys with too much testosterone and the emotional control of toddlers. And it can't all be attributed to the Brehedden (which becomes silly to the point of parody really quickly). After five or six hundred years, I'd hope one would get over the need to throw toys around to express frustration.

Parissa is annoying. I assume the goal was to show that adjustment doesn't come easily for everyone and, of course, to show emotional growth but really, what a whiner! Parissa has been viewing the lives of the ascended for years and knows much about it. As a result, her constant need for time to take it all in and emotionally adjust is incredible. If the intention was to make the reader want to slap a bitch... success! By the time Endelle asked "Who the hell cares if you're 'happy' or not?" I was nearly jumping up and down in agreement.

However, it's a testament to great ideas that I'm going to read the next in this series even if I have to suffer through highly repetitive nonsense about coffee and croissants.

Parisa and Antony have not only found themselves being drawn together by the breh-hedden, but they are also abruptly separated by a kidnapping. Wings of Fire picks up with Parisa being held captive by Rith for the past three months. Antony is spending every moment he can spare searching for her.

I read Parisa as more annoying than heroic. She is a complainer. She hates that her freedom of choice in all that surrounds her has been taken away. Her character protests everything imaginable at every possible moment. I also felt that Antony was more interested in her substantial breast size than anything else about her. The repetitious breast size comments got old, quick. I know a key ingredient to a good page turning romance is for the couple to not fall in love from the beginning. I like a good pursuit. These two fought it until the end though.

The one thing I find most distracting with this series is how we, the readers are given so much information about the couple to the next book. Sometimes a little mystery with who the next couple would be is nice. The amount of set up for the next couple is cumbersome. It seems to take too much attention away from the current books couple. Although this did not bother me as much as it should. I just could never find my connection to Antony and Parisa.

I am excited about the next book. Jean-Pierre and his sexy French accent is something I have enjoyed throughout the series thus far. I also think just due to Fiona’s past she will have some interesting hurdles to overcome when it comes to letting someone get close to her physically or mentally. I am also eager to find out more about Endelle’s “shorty” visitor. He dropped a few fascinating bits of information that left me very curious where that will take the ascenders.

I do love the Second Earth world of this series. The ascenders are all fascinating. The originality of the world and its mechanisms are reason alone to read these books. Roane also writes some incredibly intimate sex scenes. I love the breh-hedden connection, how it affects the characters reactions to one another, the bond they form, it is all incredibly sexy.

Thoughts: OH, FUCK THIS GODDAMN FUCKING SHIT!

Fuck it, fuck it all to hell.

If you're looking for a fairly decent read, do not pick this up cause Parisa Lovejoy, (the self-obsessed, whiny, annoying, moron- I so DIDN'T like her) will annoy you into tears of frustration and Medichi.. Omg, don't even talk about that warrior! I had so many expectations for this book, 'cause he used to be amazing.. But in this book? Oh, God, the torture of a shitty sniveling heroine and a hero who endured all that and still somehow loved her! Although, I'd like to add that he did give me the strength to continue even after some excruciating scenes concerning Loony Lovejoy, no matter that I was disheartened that he bonded with that idiot.

To say that this book had some REALLY low points, is to say the least. So.. shit.

I've acknowledged before that this series can only be pinned "adequate" at best, so I warn you again, that this isn't the best choice for a PNR if you're looking for a really good read.

Not exactly a bad read either, I'm intent on completing this series for only three reasons:

1) I have an arc for the 6th book in the series.

2) This series is predictable, in not too much of an annoying way, that it just feels sort of comforting/not-too-complicated to read when surrounded with butt-load of assignments.

3) I am curious about some characters like Endelle and Jean-Pierre(it isn't all bad, the characters are well developed and the overall plot is very interesting) so, like yeah, sue me.

**Screaming like a lunatic*** THIS WAS FRIKEN AWESOME!

I feel soooooo spoilt this past week. The last 5 books I have read I have rated 3 books a 5. Out of the 408 books read I have only given 103 books a 5 so to me that is not much.

This instalment of The World of Ascension was amazing. I do not know how Roane comes up with this magnificent world!

After reading Burning skies I was scared that the series had reached it’s peak. And when I read Brink of Eternity, I will be honest; I was scared because that instalment did not have the same pizzazz as the previous 2 books. But Roane rectified any doubts I had with Wings of Fire!

I don’t think I can use words to describe how amazing this series is, and after this instalment Roane has promised us a future of an amazing ride!

I wait with no patience at all for the next instalment Born of Ashes.

This is probably more like 3.5 stars. I like the story just fine. I don't like the writing. I feel like the author is trying too hard. Nothing is subtle, it's all overdone. If a character thinks another character smells good, they say it over and over and over. One of the characters is pregnant and literally every time she's mentioned, even if it doesn't flow, "Alison is very pregnant" is included. Not just pregnant, VERY pregnant. And if someone said something or had an idea that wasn't stupid (because none of them were genius) the other characters would go over the top with how amazing that idea was. And I feel like the author isn't being true to her own mythology. How is it that an ascension could be different for Parisa than it was for Alison? And the whole 1905/1886 thing about when Fiona was taken REALLY bugs me. There were just so many things that were really annoying. I like the series and I'm going to continue it, but it's definitely not in my favorites category like LOTU or BDB or IAD.

I was a bit disappointed with the book... Don't get me wrong, Her Supremeness Madame Endelle still cracks me up and I am literally laughing by myself while reading that people who saw me would've thought I'd gone nuts!... But, there were a few things I didn't quite understand (the power of the royle wings on fire --- do they automatically give out the feeling of peace or just the idea per se?)... So far, of the 3 bre-hedden females, Parisa was a bit --- shallow. Her so-called trauma is not a that traumatic at all (I know being walked out on by your fiancé is devastating - believe me I know how that feels), but the Alison (almost killed her lover prior to Kerrick) and Havily lost her entire family... Comparison-wise ---'Nuff said... Nevertheless, Parisa had her moments (imagine voyeurism in real time while actually doing the deed --- wicked!)... Now, what could be in store gir Fiona and JP in book 4... Moving on now... See on the flip side (sorry for the pun) coz' I'm off to read the next book... Au revoir...

Hey Wendy girl, you can have Marcus!!! Antony Medichi is mine! lmao.. I'm serious! Okay so what a great book IMO. Antony Medichi was such a teddy bear. Loved him!!! I want to run my fingers through all that long dark hair... Grrrrrrrr. Parisa got on my nerves a little. I want him, I don't want him.. I want to not want him. Get over it already! But she did come into her own and thankfully got better as the book went along. Loved how this book was setting up for the next book about Jean-Pierre... and Fiona. Their scents oohhhh yumm...Then we may have a possible love interest for Madam Endelle. Oh yeah baby!!!! Then Thorne, WTH??? My man are you living a double life? Oh hell no!!! Guess that's why he drinks all the time. Hopefully we wont have to wait to long for Zack and Santiago's books. Oh yeah CR can do no wrong for me. I love this series so much. I look forward to the next book. Another year though. So not fare.

Third installment in this series... I'm still not convinved I want to keep reading. I don't hate it but can't say I really like it either. It's very very light and although I can't truly say that the characters are unidimensionnal, I can't say either that there's much meat arround the bone, not much to chew on. It's an OK read and with so many great novels out there it's not one I would recommend.

There is only one reason for me to keep on reading; Endelle. She's a secondary character but she's atypical and perhaps even fascinating, or at least she could be, the potential is there. I keep hoping that the author will spend more time on her. I'm expecting Endelle will eventually be the main character in one of the upcoming novels, I just don't know yet if I'm patient enough to keep reading until it's Endelle's turn.

Despite my better judgement and telling myself after all the rape in the last book that I was NOT going to be reading the rest of these, she gave such a tease of Parisa and Medichi's story that I wanted to know what happened. Y'all. Come on.

Three and a half books in, and all I really want is someone to NOT fight the breh-hedden for 3/4 of the book. I mean, the first couple, fine, but by the third? Don't you think they'd be like "well, fighting didn't work for Kerrick or Marcus, and they had more to fight about. . ." And it looks like Jean-Pierre's story is going to be EXACTLY THE SAME except peppered with tiny bits of French.

I probably won't be able to resist continuing to read these, but I'm going to do something else for a while first.

I liked it but thought that it wasn't as good as the other books. The beginning and end were good but the middle fell a little flat for me and was quite repetitive. Still a very good read though. It's just that Caris Roane has set such a high standard for herself with the previous books of this series. Hope the next book is back to her usual exellent standard.

Yes I still hate Parisa. From her name to her personality. She is the worst character I came across in this series. Honestly. Such a brat. I skimmed and skipped all the sex pages and almost all her self talk pages. -.-
Rith is a much fabulous character in this series than her.

The whole story she did fucking nothing and just tried to show she was all great and mighty and did something, but was just extremely selfish from the last book where she was introduced. Medichi deserved much much better.

I wanted to throw the book every time she went on with her moronic monologue.

I got bored with this one pretty quickly. It's a shame because it sounded like I might like it. But it just seemed like a typical paranormal romance.

I bought this book for participation in my local Paranormal Romance Book Club.

Since my book club has found this series interesting we are continuing on throughout the series and following the Warriors of Blood as they find their breh hedden mates. I am always curious about the differences in each of the love stories. Normally they have a general romance feel to them where there are obstacles in the way of a couple coming together and it is a matter of them getting over those hurdles to be together and live happily ever after. I wanted to see what happened to one of the warriors I liked from the start, Warrior Medichi.

The last book left off where Parisa had been kidnapped right from under her Guardian's nose. This book continues on with that story line by showing Antony struggling to cope with Parisa's absence and his desperation to find her at any cost. He foregoes sleep and other activities he once enjoyed in order to hunt down leads on where he can find the woman who stole his heart. When he finally gets a lead worth following he can't get to Parisa soon enough.

All the while, Parisa is in a luxurious hell. Yes, she is well taken care of (when she obeys) but a gilded cage is still a cage. She looks up at the sky in the gardens she frequents and longs for the courage to spread her wings and fly away. The man keeping her, Rith, is a powerful one and she knows if she even attempts it she will not get far and will surely die because of it. Rith seems to be chomping at the bit to rid his home and his world of her existence. All she can do is practice her flying skills and live for the one moment at night where she can reach Antony through her voyeurism powers.

War is raging and Antony and Parisa are only two people smack in the middle of it. But destiny has more in store for the two than just a love that knows no bounds. Antony and Parisa are foretold to bring peace to their world through their royle wings. Can Antony get to Parisa and save her before not just their future is demolished but their world as a whole?

I didn't like this book as much as I had hoped I would. In every book there is some sort of commitment issues that cause the two people to shy away from their mate bond. Usually it is centered around the man's guilt over losing a loved one (normally a wife or child). But it seemed in this book, it was more so Parisa who had the issues and pulled away. Don't get me wrong, Antony had his issues too (big ones), but Parisa was the main person to try to end what was developing between them. I didn't understand it. Her back story is centered around her never having friends or lovers because she traveled a lot. Uh, okay? So that means you can't finally have both of those in a very handsome package... why? I just didn't understand it which made the whole push-and-pull of their relationship a bit frustrating. I found myself rolling my eyes on a number of occasions when Parisa would start retreating.

Parisa is not my favorite female lead by any stretch of the imagination. I actually found her kind of obnoxious which almost ruined the entire book for me. But... I am a sucker for this series. I can't put them down even when I am raging at their characters. I love the world as a whole and getting to see some of my favorite characters, like Kerrick, Marcus, Havily, and Alison, makes it a great series. I love when previous characters still appear and carry on with their stories (albeit in less detail).

The series is a big thumbs up, Wings of Fire was a middle of the road for me solely based on Parisa being a headcase.

Love rises on the wings of fire...

Wings of Fire is book #3 in World of Ascension series, which tell about Warrior Antony Medichi and his mate (or breh) Parisa Lovejoy. The story are continued from the last even of book #2,Burning Skies . Parisa was abducted by enemy, and Antony can't do anything to help her. Worse, with their breh-hedden or bonding mate, its make he crazy and go apeshit. He battle all day and night to save her. Hit a fast forward button, 3 months later, Antony finally can save Parisa, but the danger still here, since Parisa is a unique women with unique wings. She have royle wings. I don't want to explain what is royle wings, because, whaaa, its so loooong to explain, as I must explain all of term in this series. Readers must find it themselves!

Back to the story, even Parisa and Antony were tangled in bonding mate, its not mean they want accept the bond. There are some past and hurt that always hunted them both, physically and mentally. With the enemy hot on their trail, they must unite their love and flying... on the wings of fire.

Okay..
Just finish this for 2 days non stop, and I still struggling to give stars. Between 4 and 5, I decided to give this one 4 1/2 stars

So, the story is good. The plot and world building are great. Yes, Caris Roane take another author idea, like J.R.Ward (the idea of brotherhood and mating bond),Lara Adrian (even I'm not read her Midnight Breed series, I guess all that smell things are from this series), even Nalini Singh (the idea of winged creature from Guild Hunter). Add all of them, and you got World of Ascension. But, with its own unique world, plot, character and the smexiness. Did I mean smexiness? Yep, this series getting hotter and hotter for each book. I keep fanning my self from the first until the last page.

BUT, with capital B here, I'm a little bit irritated with Ms Roane's writing style. She always using "cried" word, which sometimes the using are inappropriate. I think maybe after 3 books, she will rarely used "cried" word. In Wings of Fire, the amount of "cried" are less than two previous books, but still there. Still bugged me, and I admit it make my reading enjoyment a little bit.. decreases =/. Then its make me wonder, if her editor do the job? No offense here, but with a good editing, the using of "cried" word or "whatever" will appropriate and well placed. Not make readers frowning when reading the book.

World of Ascension, even some readers found it to be a replica from some well known series,I enjoy read it till the end. This book getting better and better. The world got complicated, the problem, even still the same, seems more deeper. I would love to know how Ms Roane will took this series. It can be epic, it can be failed after some books. Time will tell...

For Paranormal Romances who love vampire, a complex world building, a hot read, just read World of Ascension. A little note from me, maybe readers will struggling so hard to read book #1 and find it too familiar with all PNR book that had released. But, just give it a chance, read the next book and this book. And maybe, you'll like me who put Ms. Caris Roane in my author auto-buy list.

Note : will never see a tangerine or orange in the same way again. And maybe after I read Jean Pierre's book,Born of Ashes, which the next book released next year, will never see coffee and croissant the same way again...

Guardians of Ascension: The war continues with the eccentric Madame Endelle’s Warriors of the Blood and the corrupted evil Commander Greaves. Imagine if you will: Eight very large warriors in leather kilts. Now add beautiful wings. They are not angels, but vampires, whose mission is to keep the soulless death vampires from entering mortal earth. Place those warriors in multi-dimensional worlds, the higher the dimension, the stronger the powers. This particular series takes place on Mortal Earth and Second Earth with occasional glimpses of the upper dimensional worlds coming into play at crucial times. The breh-hedden is a legendary phenomenon that emits pheromones that bind a male to female as mates, albeit against their will, and is only recognized by the other through the sense of smell of a particular individual scent.

So for all you J. R. Ward and Lara Adrian fans…. Dig in.. you are in for a great ride!

“Wings of Fire” is the third chapter in the series, Guardians of Ascension.

Parisa Lovejoy was introduced in the previous novel, Burning Skies, as a rare mortal not yet ascended with wings and voyeur capabilities. She was abducted by Rith, a powerfully deranged loyal servant to Commander Reaves while under the watch of her guardian and breh, Antony Medichi.
This story begins with Parisa missing for three months now and Antony searching tirelessly day and night for clues to where she may be. He knows she is still alive because she, as a voyeur, has visited Antony every morning whispering his name. Trying unsuccessfully to communicate her whereabouts telepathically she feels helpless and alone. When she encounters a mysterious woman begging for help and then voyeurs her, she discovers the horrific truth of what Rith is doing secretly in the basement below. The basement is a site for blood slaves and not only does it reveal how dying blood is obtained for the Death Vampires, it also introduces the mysterious female as Fiona, a partially ascended mortal who has been undergoing torture for more than a century but has managed to survive. Through a new found inner resolve and strength she successfully reaches out to Antony to save them all.

Antony is dreadfully scarred both physically and mentally from previous events before his ascension and his attraction to Parisa is handicapped only because both are reluctant to allow the other into their tightly guarded hearts. Through trials and tribulations they finally come together in an explosive revelation to win the battle that turns the tide in the war against Commander Reaves.
There is a very nice surprise for Fiona at the end of this chapter. (It was “tissue” time at my house when I got to that part of the book.)

Caris Roane never fails to deliver; I found Wings of Fire edgy, erotic and in places, hilarious. It is my favorite book in the series so far. Parisa is strong and easy to like, Antony is described as one of the largest of the warriors and is a favorite of mine in the Warriors of the Blood. The secondary characters are still very much a part of each story.

I love the brotherhood theme, the twists and turns, the descriptive way in the creative accounting of the strong characters and their purpose in parallel worlds. I also love the way series is presented as an ongoing ‘saga’ and how each book does an excellent job in setting up the next story. Most of all, I truly love the all powerful Endelle, the “Supreme High Administrator of All Second Earth”. She is accurately described as a PETA nightmare, wearing the most ridiculous ensembles from some kind of animal. She can out “cuss” a sailor, she’s saucy, crass and she speaks her mind whenever, to whom ever and however she sees fit.

4.5/5

REVIEW-
Antony and Parisa discover that they are meant to be couple in "Burning Skies" in a rather funny way, I was laughing and looking forward to reading their story as soon as possible.

I really thought, since Parisa had all the earmarks of being a strong and determined girl-that her book would be fantastic, unforgettable, so to speak. But it was not. The constant push and pull of Parisa and Antony, had me puzzled and angry all at the same time. I felt a little say -rightly- that the behavior of Parisa was all upset, she seemed very stubborn, too closed-minded and way of being "totally independent" put it in more of a problem. I think there is a limit to what can or can not do and when. She just went straight to the problems the way it was. Do not get me wrong, I really enjoyed the story behind the couple. Endell still a fun character, the Warriors are the typical male sexy with thousands of problems that move you and I know without a doubt that the other books are required reading for me. Now, I just hope that couples retain the charm, at least Jean-Pierre's story has everything to win my heart.

Antony and Paris could have been more charming, if only she behaved like a mature woman and not as a teenager throughout the book. Of course, otherwise it could not have gotten into trouble and of course, this book would have not all the sense it makes. Still, she ends up being those characters that you can not help but have a desire to give a shock to react. Marcus and Havily are by far my favorite characters.

An addictive series that will captivate you and leave you begging for more, once you have the fortune to meet Endell. I assure you.
