I would probably go 2.5 stars but since that was not an option this was slightly closer to OK than I liked it.

I never thought the day would come when I would go on a western binge....sadly this book has ended it for me. This had a lot of promise and an original plot, at least by my estimation. A homestead slaughter where 11 settlers get butchered and scalped. All signs point to a comanche raid, and just about everyone agrees that it could be no other group of people. The exception bing US Marshall of Indian territories Sam Ault and his deputy. The premise was there for a cool western type suspense thriller mystery....but unfortuntely it never quite there. A lot of wife bashing comments, a condescending boss attitude, Non stop it had to be the Injun comments followed by YOU injun lover over and over again. The mystery fizzled as it is almost obvious from the outset who is to blame. The action is sparse with 2 small gun battles and the finale. The suspense in almost non existant although the last 25 pages or so were ok.

I don't think I would recommend this to anyone outside of die hard western fans.
