A riveting paranormal tale of self-discovery and survival...
Shannon Riley's beautiful and descriptive prose keeps you on the edge of your seat in this paranormal tale of self-discovery and survival.
In Beasts, Diana’s isolation and abuse at the hands of her cruel husband leave her adrift with nowhere safe to turn. Orphaned as a child and raised by her grandmother, Diana’s lack of resources keep her and her baby daughter captives in a house with a man who grows more dangerous every day.
Diana’s desire for a ‘normal’ life slips further out of her grasp when she begins awakening at night in the surrounding forest, a victim of the sleepwalking that plagued her childhood. Fearing discovery and accusations of infidelity by her jealous husband, Diana is horrified one morning when she returns to find him awake and waiting for her, simmering with insane rage.
Her ensuing flight with her baby triggers long-buried memories and leads to the discovery of what happened to her parents, and to a future beyond her wildest imagination.
The palpable terror with which the writer infuses this story keeps the reader racing along with the desperate young mother as Diana’s life spins out of control. Though in the beginning Diana seems weak and submissive - typical with most victims of abuse - we witness her strength and determination grow as she fights for her life and the life of her daughter.
It’s a wild ride, one I recommend to any lover of the dark genres.
