A grey novel set on the bleak Cumbrian coast where a retired and 'failed' priest, Maurice, also the novel's narrator, is acting as a sort of warden of his stretch of coast. The theme of this short novel is communication, its importance and the dangers of not getting it right. Some good descriptive writing. I should probably re-read (but know I won't!) as I read it quickly.
