Briony thought she knew all about Wicked and its dangerous woods. What she didn't expect was that there were more than creatures who go bump in the night, more than creatures the Preservation Society have to watch out for. Aunt Sophie, Pietre, and all the residents of Wicked Woods have been waiting for this moment...a moment that would change Briony forever.

Today's review is on Silver (Wicked Woods #3) by: Kailin Gow
This third installment in Kailin Gow's Wicked Woods series continues right where #2; Shimmer, left off. With that said, the story line is fading fast.
Briony still can't make up her mind between the brooding vampire Fallon, and his hot furry brother Kevin. By now you would think she would have made a choice, and it did seem that way when she accepted Kevin's promise ring, but true to form she really hadn't and gave the ring back.
Enter in a dragon, and a magical alternate world and who knows what will happen next.
I'm not entirely sure where the author is going with the story at this point. I would think that she could have wrapped up the series in this last book.
I actually liked the first one, and even the second; if only a little less. I mean how long can you run this love triangle? Is the author just making stuff up now to keep the series going? I hate to say it, but impressed I am not. Even young adults will know this book is lacking.
I can honestly only give this book 2 out of 5 stars.
I really enjoyed the first two books to this series, but the third book is a big let down for me. I'm not a fan of a bunch of mythical creatures in books especially when I don't really get the point. And I'm disappointed in Briony's character. She's still leading Fallon and Kevin on. Kissing both of them behind their backs and that's just not right. I don't like her character. She comes off as someone who is tough and fearless. But she's also very selfish and has a poor me attitude. Unfortunately, I will not be continuing the series. I even skipped ahead and found out who she ends up with and I'm assuming that it'll take her until the last book to make up her mind. She still hasn't made up her mind in this one.
I'm just going to make this short. More of a qualifier than a review. These books are geared toward the teen audience, so a lot of this is expected but, since I gave them 4 stars, I feel I have to explain that rating a bit. These books are very short. I went through the 3 of them in less than 3 days. Partially because they were engaging, but mostly, they just weren't very long. I also read this on the Kindle, so it's possible that that particular version was poorly edited, but much of it seemed like it was probably the book itself and not because it was poorly edited for the Kindle. There were a lot of odd word choices, some poor grammar, some akward sentences.... The books themselves were not terribly "deep". The character development was almost non-existent aside from one "secret" that was hinted at throughout the books. That being said, I really, really enjoyed them. I enjoyed them because they were entertaining and the story was interesting. I wouldn't say that I particularly "feel" for the characters because I am not overly invested in them (again, due to poor development, etc.) but I "feel" for the story. I'd like to see it through to the end. Ultimately, the goal of a story is to weave a tale you are interested in seeing through to the end. Something that is good enough to hold your attention. I wouldn't say this was a "well-written" book, but it was a good story and I look forward to finishing the series.
I'm over the love triangle and am suspecting it will become a quadrangle soon. Other than that, I am still on board with the story.
I definitely wasn't expecting the reveal in the last chapter of the book and will keep reading to see where things will go from here.
Favorite quote:
"Emotion can make us do funny things." Josh kept his voice low. "Make us ignore reason. Take my brother over there. You've told him how things are, and someone you care about is standing right next to you, yet he still looks at you like you're the whole world."
What a weird story. Usually I don't have problems with new creatures but the way this has sprunged seemed out of control. Like it's not possible. It's weird. Anyway, I hate that Briony can't fucking decide between Kevin and Fallon and yet she kept kissing both of them. I have to think, "What a freaking slut" *sigh* I wish she just choose someone to get over it. It's damn frustrating. Maybe she'll just have Archer and never come back, that's better. I don't freaking know, this spinned too much out of control. The cliffhanger ending is also weird. It's a WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING MOMENT?
There is so much going on in this book. Vampire and Werewolf battles and conflicts are still going strong.Aunt Sophie disappears.Briony is still in a love triangle. I really have to say about this ... choose someone already .... it's getting old. There are many twists and turns.
Terrible. Unbelievable characters, bad grammar, stilted speech...I only read this one because the overarching story behind the series is okay, and I was hoping this book would be better than the previous two. I was wrong, and I won't be reading the next book.
