This book was the first one that I ever read about Garbo and her films. It is an excellent introduction to Garbo and her work, especially her silent films. Well-written, I still remember such phrases such as the "the divine masochist whiplashed by fate" and "After Queen Christiana, when her mass popularity began to wane, her prestige was palpable if not bankable."
