2020 Georgia Independent Author of the Year Award (Romance Catagory for The Love of Gods)
"From cover to cover, Smith delivers insanely well-drawn characters and enough moments of levity to keep this paranormal romance moving along at a brisk pace. Never does Smith's work lack. As the author bounces from one subplot to the next and back, she keeps readers on their toes and deeply involved with each of the main characters and their tragic lives."
"The entire cast of characters created by Smith is deserving of readers' adoration for that matter. Humor is a big part of Smith's writing and adds to the depth of her characters."

In recent months, I have cracked the spines of numerous faerie based novels, each having been similar to the other in one form or another as far as plotting goes. Due to this, I have been leery of fae books in general, even though I adore the worlds created for the fae realm. Bound Darkly stands out amongst the crowd. Tarrant Smith drops the reader into Tir na n-Og, the realm of the Seelie and Unseelie courts where love is possible and mayhem is likely to occur.
As for the characters, Hueil was difficult to like in the beginning; I found him to be annoying. As the story progressed, he grew on me, adding a spark to the plot. His attraction and loyalty to Sinnie won me over. Their relationship was a heated battle between two warriors. Watching them grow as a couple drew me into their struggle to be together. I'm always excited to see a strong female in a warrior role, no matter if it's fae, were, or vampire. Her strength was unlike most females in the fantasy genre I've read recently. Their bond is intense, sensual, and defies the odds set before them by both courts and family.
I prefer reading series books in order to avoid feeling lost or losing character history important to the plot, but not in this case. Bound Darkly is a great fantasy read with a touch of romance to pull you into the faerie realm. I would like to have seen more imagery of the realm itself to paint a clearer picture of their world. Tarrant Smith is an author to watch and see what she will come up with next.
This book reads pretty well. It's a little choppy at times although I like the use of the fey's shifting for transitions between scenes. At the core it feels like a romance, and to read it in light of being a romance novel, it's of really good quality. It's not too bad as a fantasy. As the second book in the series, there are some moments when I would have liked some more explanation of what happened in the past. If I had read the first book, the lack of explanation would have made me happy so... I'm ok with the author's choice.
Tarrant Smith fleshes out her worlds of the faerie and men in this sequel novel. Though the author is still learning her craft in this second work, the characters are vibrant and the complexity of the dual realms is intriguing. I look forward to reading the next novel in this series.
Romance fiction is not something I read, but I thought I'd give the "Darkly' series a try because a friend recommended it. Nice surprise, and not at all what I expected. Interesting plot line, characters who I leanred to care about, plus a big serving of the occult. I will try more by this author.
