Debbi Rawlins currently lives with her husband in Las Vegas, Nevada. A native of Hawaii, she married on Maui and has since lived in Cincinnati, Chicago, Tulsa, Houston, Detroit, and Durham, North Carolina during the past twenty years.

Now that she's had enough of the gypsy life, it'll take a crane, a bulldozer, and a forklift to get her out of her new home. Not that her friends would let her leave Las Vegas even if she wanted to. Debbi's home has become a retreat for writers from both coasts and her guest rooms are rarely empty.

A cute, fun, and sexy read with very likable characters and set in two of my favorite places--Hawaii and New York City. Lawyer Mia Butterfield quits her job to start a concierge business with her two best friends from college. The three decide to spend a week in Hawaii before they become too immersed in the endless work of starting a new business. Mia never expects her handsome former boss, David Pearson, to follow her to Hawaii. Although he was sent there to persuade Mia to return to the law firm to help secure a much needed new client, his real motives are much more personal--he wants to see if he and Mia have a chance together before she is gone from his life forever.

Mia has just decided to change her life. She quit her job in a law firm, and decided to open a company with her 2 best friends. And as an icing on the cake thy left on a vacation to Hawaii, the place of an unforgettable spring break. It would've been even better if she could forget about her sexy boss, David, a man she had a crush on for quite some time. She resigned herself to never being with him, when she sees him at the hotel she's staying at.

David is desperate. The family company is in big trouble and he needs Mia to come back so that it can be saved. But, he's also attracted to Mia, and if she comes back then they couldn't be together. He has a choice to make.

The book was ok, nothing special. Their problems could've been solved much easier if they just talked to each other. And David, what did he expect - that Mia will just come back to work and never doubt his word that their relationship has nothing to do with it. Mia wasn't much better, she annoyed me a lot. I understand her initial reaction, but later on it became quite obvious that David has feelings for her.

And the identity of the mysterious client that demanded Mia was quite obvious to me.

I'm curious about what happened to Mia's friend and her boyfriend, though. Their book is Delicious Do-Over.

Readable but ultimately forgettable romance
3 stars

Hot shot lawyer, Mia Butterfield, has decided to pack in her high flying career to open her own business. But before she settles down to the hard work and lack of money, she and her friends are going to have one final spring break in gorgeous Hawaii.

Mia's boss, David Pearson, is determined to get Mia back so he can land a lucrative account. So he follows her to Hawaii - quite a departure for a workaholic like him. But is he really going to win Mia back for the firm, or for himself?

I liked the premise of this story and it was executed fairly well. However...the story wasn't thrilling and really lacked any real sparkle or magic.

I liked both David and Mia but their relationship was a little bit strange. It felt as though the author couldn't quite decide what the power dynamic between the couple was supposed to be. This made David especially seem at times quite weak and at other times a real alpha male - it was quite odd. There was the usual heat for a Blaze romance but nothing that gave me goosebumps.

And the twist - you could have seen it coming a mile away but when it actually arrived it was a little pointless and unbelievable.

Overall this was a good enough book to read on a rainy afternoon. It wasn't overly exciting and it, if I'm honest, was a little forgettable but not wholly bad. I suspect that Mia's two friends Shelby and Lindsay will have their own stories soon making this the first in a trilogy of stories.

I hated the abruptness of the ending. Otherwise a sexy compelling read.

What happens when high powered lawyers need a break? They try and recapture their youthful sins in paradise. Only, it often does not work out the way you expect or plan. Throw in that one is fed up with long hours and quit, and the other is the heir apparent of said law firm, and you have yourself a real muddle. And there’s still more …
The plots are coming in thick and fast, together with well-meant intrigues and intentions, and you come out with Debbi Rawlins’ Second Time Lucky. And, yes, the title throws in yet another little side story to be dealt with.
Since there are three friends involved and storylines often go in threes – my guess is that this novel is the first in three, involving said friends’ tales. This one is a happy go lucky event with a number of twists, covering the theme of ‘do the right thing, no matter what’ and hope for the best. Thankfully, fate intervenes and people finally start communicating so that misunderstandings can be dealt with and sorted.

Again, started the second book then about four chapters into it, I started this one. I think I liked this one better overall than the second one mainly because the story was more believable, the characters more well defined, the plot line more developed. I don't know how to explain it.

Then again, maybe my inner Puritan was too rattled by the whole idea of a FaceBook hook-up some six years later to really enjoy the second book.

No, I think it was the story itself. Ok. Enough of that...back to this book.

I liked the hero even if he was a big do-do bird and a bit slow in getting things moving, but as the old saying goes...uh...I know there it said something about not knowing what you have until it's gone. Yea, something like that.

Not a bad read; I was completely nerved up by the up & quitting ones job gig the three girls pulled.. & I really enjoyed Mia & David's time spent in Hawaii, but I was nerved up by the three friends going every which way once they got there, did they even share one meal together? I don't think so.

After seeing all the subpar reviews I wasn't expecting much from the book ~ but it wasn't bad, I enjoyed it more often than not. =}

Just couldn't connect with this story, I was completely bored. Seemed like just sex between the H/h, rather than any real emotional ties. The Romance just wasn't there for me

This was fun but like most Harlequin books its just fluff and fun and easy. Mia's story was good but not as good as her friend's (the companion or other book).
