Daniel Church's science-based thriller is firmly in the tradition of Michael Crichton. Winter Games introduces readers to a passionate band of scientists sacrificing themselves to save millions of helpless human beings whose lives are threatened by cold. As the book's events unfold, it becomes apparent that one PR guru is behind many of the public's misperceptions of climate and, thus, much of the suffering. The great question is whether he is too powerful to be defeated.
Off the coast of Mississippi, there are some islands with pine trees. On the coast are oak trees. Sometime in the distant past those islands were the coast line and that time was well before man could have made any impact on climate. The sheer arrogance thinking us puny mortals could so dramatically affect climate. The only fiction in this book is the fifty niners.
I liked the story and human emotions of the story for every character. If you don’t want the truth about climate change using propaganda and gaslighting the public, do not read this book. Fairly quick read because you’re anticipating where the story is going and don’t want to stop reading.
