Everyone knows that Vampires, Elves and other magical creatures are real. Everyone knows that a love spell can be cast if you find the right Witch and pay their price. Everyone knows that Vampires are, at most, half blooded and Witches, well you'd be lucky to have find one strong enough to make the spell work.
Spoiled and selfish, Macy enjoyed his life. Times were good and for the most part he had little to worry about. Content with his life and lover, the cynical, brooding York, everything seemed stable.
Until, bored one night, Macy stumbles across a young human street hustler being beaten and steps in on a whim. The boy is more than he appears and curious, Macy takes him home to learn more. It's a choice that'll push Macy, York and the mysterious boy into a larger conflict. Will doing what's right cause a global turf war between creatures most humans believe long since powerless? If so, is the right thing still worth doing?
So, ya wanted to know about me... well, nothing to know! I'm from a quiet Penn Dutch area with my husband, a herd of dogs, and WAY too many cats.
The husband and I work for ourselves, no money in it but better than 9 to 5 for some other idiots, and it leaves me time to write. Which, I'm told, is a very good thing.
4.5 stars. The majority of All Souls Pass is prototypical of Payne: a brilliant engaging story that makes you think about her characters long after you completed the epilogue. There is a bit of foreshadowing....I think, but the climax is FAR worse than you can imagine. The events after chapter 38 are at times discomforting in their depravity and I'm usually a fan of twisted dark erotica. I think I'll steer clear of characters like Alvaro for a while and read something fluffy. Oh go read this already! :P
Interesting alternative mm fiction. Interesting characters from silly and lacking empathy Macy or serious, cynical yet painfully hopeful York. Well written and something a bit different.
This was dark, and it went in paths I did not expect. It was an enjoyable read, but something more was needed to give it a better score. Not sure what.
