This is a great book for mothers to read to understand relational aggression and how to counteract it. As a counselor, I already knew a lot of it, but it is a nice, concise book of information and ideas.

Although the authors repeatedly said that RA begins in the preschool-era, there were no actual chapters with solid advice on how to counter the 4 year old version of RA. I hear all sorts of stories about my kid and her classmates using very RA-like words at preschool, and my current advice to her just seems to ring hollow (let alone actually curb any of the activities I'm hearing about). Really, at 4 I'm hearing that my daughter has to wear a dress to school or a particular couple of girls won't play with her (this is also grounds for not being invited to one's birthday party, apparently). In a more coed move, a set of preschoolers takes over the homeliving area and bars another "friend" from coming in. In yet another example, a little boy runs up to my kid on drop off and says that " I'm not playing with you today because I don't like you. You're not my friend". I could go on. I'm sure my little angel is doing this stuff to other kids, too. I'm talking with my kid at home, but really does the reasoning at home - after the fact - really do any good? I guess I can just hope that the preschool teachers are knowledgeable on this front -- before the little darlings actually call attention to themselves by getting physically aggressive -- or I'm on my own until my girl hits about 10, then a copy of the book might come in handy to undo all the stuff that's been going on for years and years.

The book, Girl Wars: 12 Strategies That Will End Female Bullying by Cheryl Dellasega and Charisse Nixon, is a parenting book for mothers, who are trying to prevent their daughters from going through bullying. This book gives a lot of research, and details about what goes on in a girl's mind when she is bullied. It also gives the causes and effects of things that occur during bullying. I wouldn't recommend this book to middle schoolers, because the text in this book is quite challenging. Although, I did like the personal experiences of other girls who went through relational aggression (bullying), as it taught me a lot about how horrific bullying can get. Mothers whose daughters have experienced bullying, and want it to never occur with their children, should read this book.

The book Girl Wars: 12 Strategies That Will End Female Bullying by Cheryl Dellasega and Charisse Nixon is a great book for mom's whose daughters are struggling because of aggressive bullying. However, I wouldn't recommend this book to girls in middle school or below because of all of the scientific language. I found it very hard to follow the book because of all of the scientific vocabulary. Although something that I really enjoyed about the book was how the girls shared their stories about different situations with bullies and bullying. Any mom that loves books and wants to help her daughters out with bullying would definitely enjoy reading this book. I wish they would write a similar book for younger girls so that we can understand the book better.

Overall it was a very informative book about girl aggression. It allows one to understand that any time aggression (aka girl drama) takes place, that isn't a faze that should ever be acceptable, endured, or put-up with. It has strategies to help prepare, avoid, deal with, and overcome girls who are having problems with their relationships. The only thing that I wish it had is more advice and support for younger girls and teachers who have problems with students who deal with relationship aggression. It would be a great book to read for girls and parents who are struggling to know what to do and how to help repair damaged relationships between peers.

The book, Girl Wars: 12 Strategies That Will End Female Bullying by Cheryl Dellasega and Charisse Nixon, is a read for mothers who are trying to help their daughters get through bullying. I would not recommend this book to middle schoolers because the text is more complex than what we usually read. Although, the stories that the girls wrote from their experience of bullying were very interesting. I could relate to the narratives in the book because I had memories very similar to these girls in the past. If your mom would like to help her daughter fight through bullying, tell her to read Girl Wars: 12 Strategies That Will End Female Bullying.

Read this book if you have young girls or work around them! RA- Relational Aggression is one of the biggest problems in schools today. "RA ...is the use of relationships rather than fists to hurt another". p. 2

This is a must read for anyone who has a young lady. The idea that we don't have to settle for the usual attitude of "that's just the way girls are," is a message that I feel is extremely important. This is a very good book, complete with a step-by-step solution to handle Relational Aggression.
