A fantastic book about coaching by Dutch author Anne de Jong, in which she describes and illustrates an extensive amount of coaching methods and situations, illustrated with enlightening examples. Each chapter ends with a helpful summary of the information in the form of questions you can ask yourself to check if you absorbed the contents of the chapter..
I initally wanted to read this book because as a catholic priest and pastor, I felt the need to improve my own coaching skills; an area of expertise that unfortunately is almost completely missing in our priestly formation.
However, the descriptions of many concrete coaching situations by the author also gave me a mirror to better see my own behavior, the roles I choose to play and the subconscious ways in which I sabotage my progress towards my goals.
This is a book I will certainly reread in the future because it contains so much clear and helpful information that takes time to process and to learn how to apply. I hope the book will at one point be translated into English, because it deserves an audience beyond that of Dutch-speaking readers. It is refreshingly 'no nonsense': always to the point, realistic and clear; something that can't be said of other books I've read about coaching.
