Aircraft Down! recounts six extraordinary evasion adventures that took place in Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Albania, and Greece during World War II. In 1944 alone, nearly 30,000 American airmen survived bailing out of or crash landing their aircraft in Europe. The great majority were captured immediately. A few lucky ones beat tremendous odds and managed to evade their Fascist pursuers.
A most enjoyable read: a collection of true stories on med who evaded the Nazis after ditching in occupied Europe. interesting and informative and at times reads like a thriller. Coragous and determined young men; one can but applaud them all.
A well written, thrilling account of airman surviving after baiing out over hostile territory. It reads like an action movie, but this meticulously researched book tells the story of the the human spirit perservering over long odds in their quest to reach home.
Your B-17 has been shot down over Europe. Now what do you do? Caine had to learn the hard way, and on-the-job training was a real mutha. I love escape stories, but this book is about evaders. They are on the run and the big question is, "Whom can I trust?"
