Free to Be Me: A Journey through Fear to Freedom

Rate this book
Do you feel "ordinary"? Think you have to "be good" and "do good" for God to love you? Are you afraid to fail or "rock the boat" in relationships? If so, you're not alone. Betty Robison spent years paralyzed by fear and self-doubt, believing nothing she did was ever enough . . . that she could never measure up. Free to Be Me is her story--of how a shy girl from Texas found freedom in God's love and acceptance of us just as we are right now, and help in breaking free of destructive patterns, past behaviors, and negative thoughts.

This was a nice read - I'm glad I picked it up!

Free To Be Me by Betty Robison wasn't really what I was expecting it to be, but still a thought-provoking and touching non-fiction book. It tells Betty's life story more than it is a self-help type book for those struggling with insecurity or people-pleasing. But it could still be helpful for people who are insecure, I suppose. For me, I didn't glean any helpful tips and notice any inspiring experiences that would help with such, but I did enjoy reading about Betty Robison and things that happened in her life.

Free To Be Me was quite easy to read, and interesting. Some of the events Betty went through were a lot for quiet, "in-the-background" me to digest. But yes. Overall it was a good read and got me thinking about some things.

I had trouble getting into this. I guess I wasn't expecting it to be a full memoir. I kept waiting to hear the advertised topic: how to be free to be yourself, but I wasn't prepared, or willing, to read the entirety of Betty Robison's life to get there. As much as I hate to admit it, I just wasn't that patient.

I picked up this book at a book sale not really knowing the subject matter. Betty is a very good person. Even as a child. She is very religious and throughout her whole life she is dedicated to her church. But she is constantly plagued with self doubt and fear. She lets those feelings get the best of her when she is really a remarkable person inside and out. I am not a religious person but I still enjoyed the journey that Betty made in her life to free herself from the prison of negative thought. Free To Be Me is a personal self journey that was a turnaround from fear to freedom.

This is a great message for those of us who struggle with performance and perfectionism. I could relate to Betty's struggles with fear and anxiety, and trying to keep hidden away, building walls to protect insecurities. I love her honest message and how she started obeying God's promptings and learned to walk in freedom!

Betty's story from fear to freedom. After watching her on on TV -- Life Today -- everyday, it is wonderful to hear about her struggle & how she overcame fear. Bonus: pictures of her and James & children during their life.

I enjoyed this book. It was simple but made its point. I could identify with some of Betty's struggles and appreciated her honesty.
