Gawd! This story is TOO precious.

Slightly chubby, shy, awkward Kit, still a virgin and living with his mother at the tender age of 30, struggles to shed the pounds to impress his cute younger assistant, Jesse.

With some help from Danny Fit the DVD fitness guru, Kit comes into his own and realizes that a flesh-and-blood man, flaws and all, is far better than any fantasy.

In turns a little angsty, bittersweet, hella funny, naughty, and poignant, this is the perfect holiday feel-good story wrapped up with a lovely HEA.

One chain-smoking grumpy mother and two feisty kittens included at no extra charge.

A wonderful feel good story. Kit and Jesse are two people with their own insecurities. Kit's are more noticeable, but Jesse's are just as deep. This is a story of hope and love and acceptance, mainly Kits acceptance of himself, all told with humour and compassion.

I would love to see more of Kit and Jesse. Maybe a follow on that includes Jesse's younger brother.

ETA
Still waiting for the follow up, but apart from that this story is still a 5 star read lol.

ETA

Some books stand the test of time and this is one of them. Kit and Jesse are so sweet together. There is humour and love a plenty, but I really want the next book now. When cane Jake move in with them? lol.

ETA This one never gets old. But I still want to read where Jake moves in with them lol.

ETA Nothing has changed, I still adore this story and I still want to read more on Jake

ETA Same as above

Honestly, I can't find a single thing I didn't like in this story. I even liked Danny Fit and I absolutely adored Kit and Jesse. Even Kit's mother (aka "bundle of sourness and despair that was currently sucking down Virginia Slims") made me laugh.

Don't get me wrong, I like the occasional stud with the six pack abs, but how I love books with real people like Kit. They leave me so much more satisfied and warm.

If you 've been living in a cave for the last years, like me, I really recommend this story.

I loved this! The switch of how you think it will play out versus how it actually does. I loved the humor and the warmth, how sweet Jesse is and how intuitive Kit is. There is a lot of growth in both characters for a novella but you feel it. I hope to see these two characters again.

Amy Lane hardly ever misses, and she doesn't miss this time either. This is short and sweet, sort of like a beach read with just a tiny bit of angst for flavoring.
I do think this book has something to say about body image and our tendency as gay men to idolize figures we find on screens (computer or otherwise) to the exclusion of the living and breathing men we find standing right next to us. Who knows how many Prince Charmings walk by us while we race home to fire up the computer and spend a few minutes with a tanned, toned, and waxed to within an inch of his life phantom that we will never meet? TMI? Sorry, I will keep self-revelation out of the next review.

Christmas with Danny Fit is a very sweet holiday story, featuring a shy and awkward 30 year old virgin and his lovely and spirited assistant.

It's a workplace romance (woo!) and although the story deals with some heavier themes - with the characters dealing with issues relating to body image, self-worth and even the impending loss of a loved one - overall, it has a positive vibe and plenty of wonderfully heartfelt moments scattered throughout to make it an enjoyable holiday read.

Sci-fi geeks in love. I enjoyed this quite a bit. Kit is waking up from years of just existing. He moves out of his mother's house, starts working out, and maybe has a crush on who he believes are unattainable men, his new assistant Jesse and the DVD workout guru, Danny Fit.

This is a sweet one! I liked seeing Kit get his act together and I liked how jealous Jesse was of Danny. Cute Christmas read.

ACK! This was adorable. I loved that Kit decided to do something about his health and fitness because of the way he saw/felt about Jesee but not for Jesse. Jesse was just the flick of the light inside Kit to finally do something. I loved his transformation from overweight momma's boy to the dude who could get that dedication from Danny Fit to prove a point.

This story read very real; both Kit and Jesse had hangups and vulnerabilities that made them easy to relate to. I adored that they were friends first and both crushed on the other and that first kiss was to die for. It was so sweet but not as sweet as the end with all that Kit had in the bag for Jesse. Just, so freaking sweet.

The lesson here; you can totally get attached to the hot dude on the TV as he works you out and makes you feel good but nothing is better than the real thing.

*sniffs the air*

Do you smell that? No?

It's not the spirit of Christmas, dah-ling.

It's the spirit of Danny Fit, sweating moistness in the air!

I'm in such a nice mood after reading this! I'm even using more than one exclaimation point!! <~~~Look at me all exclamation point crazy.

Great little holiday short story with a realistic feel to it. (the insults and awkwardness of it all is truly a nice touch) Kit's overweight, thirty and still owns his v-card. "Christmas with Danny fit" is a tale of him shredding said v-card, falling in love (with whom? you'll need to read & find out) and hilarious moments.

Super super cute.

Kit is a 30 year old overweight virgin, living with his nasty and homophobic mother. When he cannot stop thinking about his young assistant, Jesse, and his smile, he knows he has to change his life. Right now.

Kit buys all of Danny Fit’s healthy workout videos and starts to work out at home. He also immediately goes out to find himself a nice little house. Perhaps he won’t be such a pathetic loser once he loses some weight, lives in his own house, and gets a cat..

This was simply adorable. Kit was such a sweet protagonist. I especially liked how he handled his mom.

“I’m gay, Ma. I’m moving out before you kick me out, because I’m tired of not having a life.” He turned away then, so he didn’t have to see her process this and didn’t have to see her revulsion when it finally sank in. “Give me a call if you want to get together for Thanksgiving, okay?”

The romance was sweet, and I really liked how Jesse took care of the shy Kit.

I am such a sucker for the insecure guys, thinking they aren’t worthy, but end up finding true love.

This is a wonderful story that mixes several serious topics into a heart-warming tale of two guys who have more to give to the other than they could have thought initially.

The main character here is Kit, a 30 yo overweight, gentle (and virginal) accountant who still lives with his overbearing mother. The story is about his emancipation and how he finally starts to create a live of his own - inspired indirectly by his new assistant Jesse and with the support of a DVD-fitness guru, Danny Fit.

The story is told entirely from Kit's point of view so the reader gets to know all about his hopes, yearnings and insecurities. But Kit is not depressed or anything but rather determined, if insecure. His thoughts and endeavors sometimes pull at the reader's heartstrings or will make readers laugh a bit.

What I especially liked about this story is the way Jesse's personality and troubles are revealed without him being the focus of the story. In several scenes over the book, layer after layer is subtly removed either by Kit's perceptiveness or Jesse's reactions to reveal his emotions and troubles. This allowed me to glimpse more and more of the vulnerable, lonely young man behind the beautiful face and toned body throughout the story. Although Jesse's character still stayed a bit distant to me I came to care for him a great deal as a wonderful match for Kit.

Their romance is believable, sweet and tender and I loved how it turned out that both could give the other what they needed. At the core, this story is about looking behind the facade presented, and both ways. Kit learned how much more there is to Jesse than his good looks and gentleness and Jesse saw right behind Kit's big body and self-consiousness and straight to his big heart.
Stories with characters that don't apply to the standard thin/well-built archetype aren't numerous in m/m, unfortunaltey, and this one deals beautifully and in a realistic way with lots of real life issues.

God! This little book was perfect! I love to read novellas when they manage to incorporate a legit, entire story and this book is a great example. The character of Kit was originally unlikeable but he transforms himself and, along the way, earns the reader's respect and the love of his office assistant, Jessie. Kit's mother was wonderfully nasty and horrible. It's amazing how much plot and character development Amy Lane fit into 90-some pages. Just smooth reading, fun and hot from the first page. I love Amy Lane! Thanks for the great Christmas story. It goes to the top of my 'nice' list.

Kit Allen is a 30-year-old virgin whose life has been in a perpetual state of pathetic. A pudgy accountant by day, he retires at night to the home he shares with his acerbic mother. That is until he meets Jesse, his new office assistant. Jesse is everything that Kit ever dreamed about in a man: charming, good-looking, kind, and hot as hell. In a come-to-Jesus moment on a cold November afternoon, Kit realizes that to attain the unattainable (e.g., Jesse), he seriously needs to turn his life around. Kit tells his mother he's moving out, puts a down payment on a house, purchases furniture, and invests in a fitness DVD featuring Gay God, Danny Fit. What starts as a slow dance around each other soon blossoms into a romance as Kit and Jesse find their way to their HEA.

This is a sweet friends to lovers tale. I must admit, however, that parts of the story were baffling. I liked both MCs and was rooting for their HEA all the way. Their's was a slow-burn as Kit and Jesse got to know each other and explored their similar interests. But then everything suddenly goes Mach-5. One minute, neither knows if the other is gay or straight and the next, they're passionately kissing and sleeping together (sans sex). Don't get me wrong, I was excited for them but the cadence of their romance just confused me at times. My other "huh" moment was Kit's insistence on seeing Danny Fit. I get the saying goodbye to the fantasy bit but did it have to be in person?

Bottom line: a sweet, but at times confusing, friends to lovers story.

Say what you will about Amy Lane but don't say she can't write. This is a sweet, little story about Kitt Allen, an overweight accountant who falls for his thin, little, perky assistant, Jesse. Yes, this is short but it's chock full of good writing and very little angst and lots of interesting characterization. I enjoyed watching this character extract himself from his lonely, depressing, life with his mother to become the man he wants to be. Finding your voice over 30 is hard. Finding the lover you didn't know you could have is terrifying.

Christopher "Kit" Allen is a 30-year old accountant: he is forty pounds overweight, never been laid, never been kissed, and still lives with his mother. Something about his beautiful new assistant, Jesse, makes Kit want to reform himself. So he starts a regime of exercise (with the gay-God Danny Fit video), moves out from his mother's house, and starts his independent life (including getting himself a cat). At the same time, Jesse starts a campaign of his own, to make his boss aware of how wonderful Kit really is -- and that the reason why Jesse likes him, is not only because of their same love for sci-fi movies, but because Kit is the first person in Jesse's life that truly cares without expecting anything in return ...

Awww, what a wonderful and sweet (but not sugary) story. Kit is an adorable awkward accountant -- his thoughts over Jesse are sometimes hilarious. Like this one below, when Jesse is talking about his evil-ex ...

Jesse looked away. “I’m actually visiting the evil ex.”

“The evil ex?” Ex-what? Ex-boyfriend? Ex-girlfriend? Ex-cat or ex-turkey? Jesus, Jesse—can I buy a pronoun?

The seduction campaign from Jesse is not really subtle *grin* and I love that Jesse is taking the first step. Jesse really helps Kit to come out of his shell and become his own man. The way that they get together is wonderful -- there are so many scenes between the two of them that are just worthy.

Adds two kittens and Jesse being jealous of Danny Fit -- which I think is actually pretty amusing, because even if Jesse seems to be more experienced, he IS still young (he's only 23 years old) and Kit seems to be the first person in Jesse's life, whom Jesse really thinks worth fighting for -- and I think this is another winner from Amy Lane.

This was a sweet and fun novelette with one of my favourite storylines: a character who’s stuck in a rut gradually waking up and starting to embrace life. Kit Allen, our narrator, is thirty but still a virgin and living with his awful mother. But the thoughtful attentions of his attractive young assistant Jesse, begin to stir desires in Kit—desires which are only fed by his determination to get fit with the aid of a workout DVD featuring the gorgeous Danny Fit.

This is the third story I’ve read by Amy Lane and it has everything I’ve started to expect from her writing: humour, adorable characters and a sweetness that doesn’t quite hurt my teeth. I loved Kit’s character and he certainly made me laugh out loud several times. Jesse was a little harder for me to sympathise with, though. Partly this was because he was always seen through Kit’s eyes, and in the beginning his rose-tinted glasses made him view Jesse as annoyingly perfect. However, when Jesse’s flaws became apparent they were of the kind that I find offputting: petulance and immaturity. Despite this, I was willing to believe that Kit loved him anyway, and I was glad that some explanation as to why was given by their trip to Jesse’s home town.

The Danny Fit motif figures again at the end and wrapped the story up in a satisfying way. Definitely an enjoyable Christmas story, and if you liked Jesse more than I did then you may well love this one.

Last night, well early this morning when I finished this, it was a 5. However, in the light of day, it's firmly in the 4.5 camp. Only because I was looking for an epilogue. This was laugh out loud funny at times and at others it was painfully realistic. Neither Kit, nor Jesse are perfect and they quickly find that out about each other. Both have a troubled family life and overbearing mothers. Kit's has kept him trapped, through guilt, at home for longer than most men and Jesse's forced him out through indifference.

At thirty, Kit seems closer to Jesse's twenty-four, mostly because of his shyness and naivety. In turn, Jesse is more world-wise which makes him, if not more mature, more equipped to deal with the harshness of life. Once they discover one another they strike a balance. Kit learns how to go out and really live his life, and Jesse learns to trust and rely on someone other than himself.

Without the epilogue, it felt more like a HFN than a HEA. So, except for the lack of an epilogue, I found it a sweet, funny story that I would revisit. If the author was ever inclined, I wouldn't mind reading more about this sweet couple.

This was such a cute, sweet, meaningful story; the MCs were delightfully different from the usual MCs and very different from each other. And I could see how the dynamics worked. This is the sort of story which makes me buy Amy Lane books; not the heavy angst which I will acknowledge she does so well.

An adorable will make you feel better love story. A bit of a fairy tale in it.
A thirty year old Kit is in love with his assistant, but doesn't feel he has any chance. He buys a workout DVD featuring a fitness guru Danny Fit. That starts all kind of changes in Kit's life.
Jesse's avoidance of pronouns is funny too. Poor Kit.

This is my second Amy Lane book. I’m sorry to say that I haven’t enjoyed either. So it’s perhaps a case of her just not being for me. I’d like to try one more though. Suggestions? She’s so popular. I’m not rating this because I don’t know exactly what it was I didn’t like. It just read very awkward, strange and stilted and I didn’t feel a connection at all. 😢

I was really surprised by this story. The characters were so wonderfully flawed! At the start of the story, Kit was a slightly overweight 30 year old accountant, and virgin, who was still living at home with his cranky mom. He was absolutely adorable and Amy Lane did an incredible job balancing his issues with his weight, his mother and his desire to start living, enjoying life and have sex.

I had mixed feelings about Jesse, the other main character, as the story progressed. Initially I loved that he was so into Kit before Kit started to work out and get in shape. I thought Jesse was going to be the perfect man, but as we started to get to know Jesse through his pursuit of Kit, I learned that he was deeply flawed and had serious trust and self-esteem issues just like any normal person, despite being so good looking and fit. However, as Kit and Jesse's relationship started to bloom, I saw traits in Jesse that got me wondering with each Kindle page I turned, if he was using Kit or was going to dump him after he had gotten things from him, or heaven forbid file a sexual harassment suit against Kit. I wasn't too keen on the office romance between a boss and his assistant at first.( I got over it).

My problem with Jesse began when Jesse started acting like a brat at times when he didn't get his way, and that bothered me for Kit's sake, and annoyed me as a reader. I didn't like that Jesse almost slept with his ex, after having kissed Kit days before. I didn't like, or understand why Jesse got upset when Kit said he wanted to face him for his first time having sex. Why did Jesse have an issue with that? It was never explained.

But then Jesse starting sharing his insecurities with Kit and I realized he had been so damaged by people breaking their promises to him or mistreating him, that he had real self-esteem issues and I started to excuse his pouts and little tantrums.

I loved how Kit felt about his first argument with Jesse and how he didn't completely let Jesse walk all over him and get his way all the time. I loved how Ms. Lane brought to life the ups and downs in a relationship and allowed Kit and Jesse to show real emotions.

I don't want to give anymore away, even though I've already shared so much about the story. And it is a short story. However, that's what's so amazing about Amy Lane's writing. For such a short story she wrung so many emotions out of me and I was able to connect with both characters in so many ways.

I recommend this story for anyone who is looking for a quick read with great flawed characters.

wow,
Just finished reading this , so Im still a little in the oh ahh factor.
firstly a short recap on what this little gem is about
Kit is a little overweight, still living at home and has decided to do something a bout both. One he is going to work out,and two hes going to move out,, ( and get a cat lol).
Jessie is kits assistant at work. Always there to help kit, always anticipating what he wants and how he is feeling.
Needless to say, Kit thinks himself not good enough for Jessie in any way, he looks from afar and turns to the image of the guy in his workout dvds for his fantasys. He wouldnt hope for anything with Jessie , cause *hope only ends in disapointment* so he lives his fantasies thought the work out dvd guy. But Jessie has other plans , will he be able to cut through the shy retiring kits exterior to find the beautiful soul which hides inside. Also Is jessie able to push the monsters in his past to take that leap.
I loved this story. Two beautiful people , who are in need of something concrete in their lives, something real . I was amazed how the two characters had the ability to have me holding my breath when they uttered a few beautifully chosen words. The way the words are strung together here makes you delve deep into your own self , Makes you want to sit back and think,, does my partners heart beat for me. That was one line that just made me say wow.. when someone looks at the other and says does my heart beat for you ? and you wait for that answer the one that will make you soar or make you shatter into a million pieces. As you can see this book left me emotional on so many levels , Just a feel good book , where you can find your own vunerable issues coming to the surface and making you take stock of its meanings.
A definate read for the heart on the sleeve brigade

Thirty year old Kit has finally decided to take control of his life. Overweight and shy, he's a virgin still living at home with an unhappy and bitter mother. But now Kit has found someone he'd like to be with, or at least be worthy of, and both for himself and to appeal to Jesse he's started a workout regimen using a DVD by exercise guru Danny Fit. As he works out he begins to fantasize about sexy Danny but it's Jesse, the young man he works with, that slowly takes hold of his heart. Suddenly Kit's life is full of firsts: first kiss, first time standing up to his mother, moving out on his own and finally losing his virginity. Will finding true love be the next "first" for Kit?

I really enjoyed this entertaining story. Kit isn't the typical romance hero. He's overweight, shy and self-conscious because of it, living at home and a 'never even been kissed' virgin. But when Jesse starts working in his office he finally wakes up and decides to change his life. Jesse for his part sometimes came across a bit immature but in the end they were a good fit for each other.

It wasn't always easy, Kit had his mother to deal with, and he finally after many years did a good job with that, while Jesse was trying to help a close friend through a very difficult time. They had insecurities and jealousies to deal with as well but it was all worth it in the end. Christmas with Danny Fit is a well-written story that has humor and a touch of angst, it's also sweet, sexy and very entertaining. This is not the first story I've read by Amy Lane and like the others I's read I enjoyed it very much. I look forward to reading more of her stories in the future.
