The Dom Around the Corner might be a little book, but emotion leapt from every page. For some reason, I find the idea of the high powered business man letting go and submitting to be very sexy, so I knew this book was up my alley before I even opened it. Add to that how emotionally vulnerable both Simon and Gavin were, and you have a very sweet read. Their connection was solidified from the very beginning; you could feel the heat the moment Gavin presented himself to Simon. It’s given away in the blurb, so there’s no surprise when Gavin walks into Simon’s life once again. Simon is bound (do you see what I did there?) and determined that Gavin won’t get away from him this time, but Gavin is too shell-shocked to give in to Simon right away. Overall, this was a very heart-warming read about two men who need each other as much as having their BDSM desires fulfilled. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

This was a short, hot BDSM read. Not a whole heck-of-a-lot of substance, but fun for the length. Recommended for M/M BDSM fans.

I found The Dom Around the Corner to be more emotional and sweet than the leather clad handed cover leads us to believe.

I could feel the connection between these two from the very first glance. A coupling of two lost souls was a nice little journey into trust and letting go.

It's a rather short read, so in keeping I will let it speak for itself.

The Dom Around the Corner is a spicy sweet read for the M/M romance lover!

Good kinky m/m romance about a dom, struggling not to lose his bookstore, who's also lonely and needing something more than just casual encounters. He finds the mysterious 1-800-DOM-HELP business card in his office...

review @Scattered Toughts And Rogue Words

The Dom Around The Corner is the first book in a new series by Christine d’Abo and the first I read by this author. I’m always curious about “new to me” writers and this one surprised me positively. I’m glad I picked this book to review. It was a winner to me for different reasons, apart from the BDSM theme which I enjoy a lot.

I’m a sucker for characters with baggage and bad luck in life, it makes them more real, just like me. In this book we meet Simon, a respected Dom, that is going through some hard times. His bookstore is having some trouble and he can’t come out of it. He is still looking for a sub, the perfect one, the one Simon is searching for since forever, someone who fit in his life as a sub and as a life partner too. He is tired of the BDSM world around him, it is not what he wants anymore, to play for just a couple of hours. He makes a last attempt going to a new club and finally he finds Gavin.

Gavin has been without a Dom for three years. He’s still not ready to move on but he’s tired of being on pause with his life. He just needs someone who helps him relax and shut down his mind. He is soon attracted to the beautiful and powerful Dom but at the end of their first scenes together, scared of the possibility of something more, Gavin leaves Simon in a hurry. Destiny seems to put them on the same road again but can both of them put down their barriers and give their lives a second chance?

I loved Simon and Gavin, I found them so real in their worries and relationships. The book is also enriched by some second characters, as in Jocelyn, Simon’s cousin, a strong, helpful, stubborn young woman, the one to cheer Simon up; or Jared, the bartender matchmaker.

I liked the writing, the double POV helped me a lot at understanding both MCs and the dialogues were engaging. I think the author was really good at making me love Simon and Gavin (especially the young sub) choosing to focus the story in their present and not in Gavin’s hurtful past, which would have made the book definitely heavier.

The Dom Around The Corner has the right amount of everything I like to read about and I’d like to recommend it. I hope to see more of this new couple soon in the next book.

Cover art by L.C. Chase Well done, the arrow recalls the story but it wasn’t eye catching to me cause I simply prefer another style.

Lea’s Review:

Commanding Acquisitions brings to mind that oldie goldie song, Do You Believe in Magic? I love stories that have a bit of the unexplained and a great deal of the unexpected, and this story has both. The characters, as well as the situations they find themselves in, are so believable that I wanted to reach out and offer hugs to Simon and Gavin in some places, and reach out and demand they immediately stop and adjust their stubborn mindsets in others.

In this story by Christine d’Abo, Simon is a Dom who is having some troubles. His bookstore is floundering financially and to top that off he hasn’t had a sub to Dom in over six months so he is rather defeated and lonely and horny. His niece, Jocelyn, who works for him in the bookstore, has tried to assist by suggesting he get help from a consultant but Simon has some issues with asking for or accepting help. Then one day he receives a rather mysterious business card in the mail and in a moment of weakness, or is it strength, Simon calls the number on the card and tells the person on the phone exactly what he honestly needs and wants. At that point things get really interesting as his personal life and career intertwine in a most amazing manner.

Commanding Acquisitions is one of those great stories where the strong come to understand their weaknesses, the weak come to find and accept their strengths and eventually everything sorts out to an HEA ending. At just under 100 pages, this story is easily read and greatly enjoyed in one or two sittings. This book is part of the 1-800-DOM-help series, but it isn’t necessary to have read any others in the series to fully appreciate this wonderful story. If you are looking for an engaging and enjoyable read, pick this one story up today.

I never thought I would describe a book that was clearly m/m BDSM as “sweet”, but there are really no other words to characterize the relationship that grew between Simon and Gavin other than touching and heartfelt.

Simon, the owner of a small, neighborhood bookstore, is a Dom that has grown tired of the local scene. After the end of his last relationship, he has thrown himself into work and revitalizing his struggling business, but out of loneliness has decided to give a new club a chance. On his first night there, he meets Gavin, a submissive who truly needs to serve just as Simon needs to be needed.

Their attraction is instant and the sex is yummy, but past hurts threaten to keep them apart until they confide in one another to work past their issues.

There is nothing earth shattering about this story. There is no twisted plot, no vindictive exes or misunderstandings. There is just two people that need to work through their past baggage in their hearts and minds to realize that the person they have been afraid to find is the very one they need. That the person they have been looking for is the person that has been standing in front of them all along. And that the person they are afraid to lose their heart to had held it all along.

Simon and Gavin are perfect for one another. There may be whips and spanks instead of flowers and chocolates, but The Dom Around the Corner is no less of a romance for it.

This is a truly refreshing BDSM story after so many glorified abusive relationships masked as BDSM relationships. I love how they heal each other, how they are secure in their role without losing their confidence & their selves.

I love that Simon, even though he is a Dom, can listen to Gavin, the sub, who is clearly more knowledgeable in business. I also love how caring he is. He is not a vanilla Dom, but he clearly puts his sub needs before his own. I also love that he is not a Dom who pretends to automatically knows everything a sub needs at first meeting. He even sets rules that Gavin should tell him if there is something wrong in their relationship.

And Gavin... finally! A sub with a backbone! How refreshing! I love that even though he is a sub and clearly understands his role, he is not a doormat. He can stand up for himself, even though sometimes he makes mistakes.

With them, I can clearly see HEA. They complete each other and care for each other very much while comfortable in their roles.

The Dom Around The Corner by Christine d'Abo is one wonderful introduction to her Escape series, which I hope will continue soon.

I absolutely adored the characters in this story! Their attraction is instant and when they do get together it's absolutely delicious! The narrative is charming and engaging and I loved getting to know both men.

Gavin and Simon together? Sweetness! Their story is quite emotional and I enjoyed seeing them struggle getting past their emotional baggage. I was left wanting more though, because sadly it's just a tad short.

Highly recommended if you are looking for something short, steamy, sweet and satisfying!

The 1-800-DOM-HELP series has an interesting premise, and Christine D'Abo delivers a highly entertaining, fun story with just the right amount of emotion. The relationship between Simon and Gavin was richly-drawn, and it was clearer both men were struggling to come together in a meaningful way. The ending was satisfying and realistic, too. This is book #2 in the series. Each story can stand on its own but I recommend reading them as a series.

The Dom Around the Corner is a story of trust and honest emotional expression.

Simon is a struggling in his professional life and his personal life. His book store is experiencing declining sales and he hasn't been able to find anyone to meet his sexual needs since his partner left a year ago. Simon wants someone who will be his submissive, but also his partner, and he knows he's not going to find that in the loud, seedy sex clubs in his neighborhood. Simon's cousin, luckily, isn't ready to let Simon give up on any of his dreams. Not only does she encourage Simon to bring in someone to help with the bookstore but she provides Simon with the phone number of a new, exclusive club she thinks he should try. Simon is hesitant about the club, Escape, but he likes what he hears when he calls and speaks to the owner so he decides to give it a try. Simon ends up spending a very satisfying evening with Gavin, a sub who is just looking for someone to help him forget about life for a while. Simon is hoping for a little more time with Gavin but Gavin is not remotely interested in getting involved with anyone beyond some mind-blowing sex. Imagine the surprise the two of them experience when they discover Gavin is the business consultant sent to help Simon save his business. While the two make every effort to maintain a professional relationship they can’t deny the growing sexual tension and after a couple of weeks they finally give in. Simon feels like he and Gavin may be making a connection but Gavin is guarded. After a second night together Simon finds himself, once again, hoping that the two of them might have a connection outside of the bedroom but Gavin quickly dispels those thoughts. Simon is struggling to figure out why Gavin keeps running away and is determined to get him to open up; but even after Gavin does open up, it doesn’t stop him from leaving.

Gavin and Simon are on these parallel paths in their lives and they just can’t seem to find a way to get their paths to cross. Simon wants a sub who also wants to have a relationship outside of the bedroom and Gavin wants nothing to do with a serious relationship; but they are both lonely and searching for the missing piece in their life. Their journey together is honest and emotional. The author does a great job of getting the reader to feel the gut-wrenching sadness and confusion as these two work through the pain of their past in an attempt to find something together. The characters are charming and their lives and relationship and genuine and believable. This story was fully developed in a short number of pages and I really enjoyed it.

3 Heart Review by Amber

This was an interestingly short but hot little BDSM story. For me, it was just ok. Not great, not bad.

Simon is the owner of a bookstore that happens to be failing. He’s also a Dom who hasn’t been able to find a sub that fulfills his needs. His inability to be able to relieve stress at his local BDSM clubs may be bleeding into his professional life. After hearing about a new, uber exclusive BDSM club, Escape, he decides to give it a try. He’s not optimistic since he’s struck out so much recently.

After a major loss in his life Gavin thought he could give up the BDSM life he was accustom to. After a few years he decides to give it another try. So, he goes to Escape and sees a Dom that intrigues him.

Gavin and Simon are immediately attracted to each other and it’s obvious they both are interested in a scene together.

Sparks fly and it seems like these two were made for a perfect D/s relationship. But both have hang-ups and complications so they both enjoy a perfect stress relieving night together.

Both are taken aback when their paths cross again in an extremely professional, business setting. They agree to continue to work together, but to make it business only.

There really wasn’t much in regards to really getting to know these characters. We know about past partners but nothing really to draw me into them, Simon especially. They were hot together but I felt no deep connection.

This was an enjoyable read but for me it wasn’t anything special.

I don't read a lot of BDSM erotic romances even though I love them. It can be difficult to find really good ones that are a full length. I read even less M/M romance. So the fact that this book is a M/M BDSM erotic romance means that this book is on a very short list!

I really liked Simon and Gavin. Simon was the Dom and Gavin, the sub. I felt like I didn't really get to know Simon all that well though. I think that Doms being and staying relatively mysterious is pretty typical in an erotic romance for the most part so it didn't really bother me. I only noticed once I started thinking about what I liked about Simon in particular. Gavin was pretty awesome too. He never felt or seemed less manly because of his submissive tendencies and I really loved that. Gavin had a bit of a sad back story but the author paced the reveal really well so it was fun to wonder what his problem was.

I loved that Simon, as a Dom, had to ask for help with his bookstore. I mean, generally, Doms are pretty intimidating and they kind of feel like a force of nature. So I thought it was awesome that Simon asked for help with his struggling business. It was very cool to see Simon and Gavin's Dom/sub interaction be flipped on its head outside of the bedroom since Gavin was Simon's consultant! It made it easy to dig Simon even more!

The Sexy Time was seriously hot and plentiful, and again, the pacing was well done. I liked that both men were able to maintain their masculinity despite their roles as Dom or sub. I loved how their business arguments because the arguments occasionally ended in the bedroom. It was funny AND hot! Overall, I really enjoyed this book even though it was WAY too short! I'd recommend this book for anyone interested in a M/M erotic romance where both guys need a little help in the romance department! :)

Simon is out of sorts. His business is failing, his love life none existent. But most of all, he can't seem to find a sub to satisfy him. He wants the best of both worlds--the kink and the connection. He's just about to give up when his cousin hands him the number of the new club in town. With nothing to lose and with a need to unwind, Simon heads out to Escape.

Gavin's past has kept him from the BDSM lifestyle for three years. He's hesitant about getting into it again fearsome of the memories it will bring, but the time has come for him to move on. Little does he know that with this visit to Escape will come to mean to him.

For just over a 100 pages of content, The Dom Around the Corner has the right amount of elements to make it a significant read. It has the right amount of emotions without the angst, some humor and some very smexy scenes. But what truly made it special for me, was the journey of the characters throughout.

Simon and Gavin were great characters to get to know. I loved that Simon yearned for something more in a sub than the shared kink. This had me anticipating what would develop with Gavin as the story progressed. I would have loved to have seen them interact more with each other during their time out of scene, but in all honesty I don't think it took away from the story. Christine d'Abo made damn sure that the reader could experience the connection these two shared--in and out of scene. With every stolen touch, hidden look or slight tremor that connection skyrocketed. I loved it!

There's not much that I can say without giving too much away, but if you take anything from this review let it be my recommendation for you to give this story a try. It was a fantastic mix of short, sweet and sexy!

I'm still puzzling about why this is called the Dom Around the Corner, is it that every good high street should have one? Or is it, that Simon may turn out to be the dom that Gavin has been searching for following three years of mourning for his previous partner.

Regardless of the answer, Simon and Gavin are two lovely guys who meet when Gavin comes to mentor Simon and help to get his failing bookshop back on track. The interesting dynamic of the story is not least that Simon is a dominant who has some difficulty in asking for or accepting help. He is also lonely and bored not having been in a relationship for some time, and knowing that he wants a kinky partner to put the fun back in his life.

Gavin has been through a bereavement and is not sure if he is ready for a relationship. Before starting a new assignment, Gavin visits a club and meets Simon - the chemistry between them seems hot. Unexpectedly Gavin discovers that it is Simon he has come to mentor and he must adopt a more professional demeanour than their previous encounter.

The story is a great deal of fun (much more so than the cover would suggest) and humour as Simon and Gavin find themselves drawn to each other but with general life to work through and a business to save it is not certain if they will decide to step out of their professional personas and risk their hearts.

Highly recommended for a quick light, enjoyable read that should leave you with a smile on your face about the vagaries of human life and love (and what lies around the corner).

The Dom Around the Corner is a quick and spirited M/M book. We are treated to an older Dom who is lonely and a lonely Sub who has relationship issues. Both men are lost and hung-up on their own baggage. But they have an instant connection that can't be denied.

I really enjoyed this book by Christine d'Abo. I have previously read some of her work and truly like her writing style. Both men are carrying some baggage and really want to explore with one another, but said baggage keeps cropping up. This is told from the Dom's perspective so we are not privy to what was going on in the sub's head. I wish there was a chapter in between that was from his point of view. I would have been interested in what was the trigger to make him finally decide to give their relationship a go. That being said, it was a wonderfully sweet and heart-warming story that I wholeheartedly recommend you to read!

Gunna be completely honest, I’m so happy I’m done. Here’s why:
No plot- the only thing happening outside the romance was the Dom’s money problems with his store, which was only talked about twice and more like a side plot.

No character development- the only time the past was mentioned was when the sub talked about his former dom and how it left a mark on him. There’s also little to no change in the character and they pretty much stay at the same way of thought the entire time

No side main character- with every story there’s side main characters (like a best friend or a comical sibling) that bring more character into the story. Here there was none except the bartender in like three scenes, and the family member in the very beginning

Third person- personally, I HATE third person and I feel like it doesn’t allow the reader to feel or relate with the characters, which is probably y can’t remember the subs name.

No scenes where the little things happen- there needs to be breaks where the characters can just have fun or have meaningful conversations that don’t involve past relationships or anything like that.

I’m a sucker for books about bookstore owners. Maybe it’s the part in me that hopes and dreams of someday owning a bookstore and café, but whenever I see a book where one of the characters is an owner? Well, count me in! Add to that a delicious helping of BDSM? Yes, please!

I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this story, from Simon’s gruff attitude at the store and his clear sexual frustration, to Gavin’s expertise in handling business and sweetly submissive nature. When the two of them connect, it’s great. But Gavin disappears and leaves Simon wondering, until he shows up to save Simon’s business.

Of course, try as they might, they can’t resist each other, and Gavin flees yet again, but he does start to grow. Even as he maintains his submissive side, he becomes surer of himself, which is great. Too often I’ve read books where the submissive is meek in every aspect of his life, and that’s not always the case. Sometimes a submissive is a strong person who needs to let off steam. That’s Gavin.

Perhaps the most intriguing part of this book was that it’s the first in a series called Escape. The club where Gavin and Simon meet is called escape, and it made me wonder a few things. I know future stories will somehow involve this club and the characters either meeting there or working there. But will Christine d’Abo write the future installments? Or is this a sort of open world setting where other authors will step in and add characters based on the location? I’m sure it’s the former, but the latter would also be really fun to read. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a series that did that!

If you’re looking for a quick read with BDSM elements, I recommend this book. Not only will it satisfy that craving, but if you want more, there will be at some point in the (hopefully) near future.

The Dom Around the Corner by Christine d’Abo is a re-release, it was originally published in 2010 and per d’Abos note in the book she felt like she has grown as a writer and found a new home for this publication. I’ve been reading d’Abo for a few years and almost always enjoy her stories. Some I like better than others but it’s rare that I don’t like one at all. This one is a M/M D/s tale and I am not new to either genre, but if you are new to these genre’s you might not want to start here because it is fairly explicit and details. You might want to ease into these sexy times. It’s a pretty short book so there isn’t a ton of character building but you get a pretty good sense of whom these characters are. Simon is our Dom and he definitely likes his control so it’s killing him that his business is failing so he works night and day to the detriment of his social life. It takes some needling from his cousin to get him to go out and get his “escape”. I found Simon a bit wishy washy and half the time he didn’t see to know what he wanted. I like Gavin better as a character, he is fighting some serious shit so I understand why he acts the way he does. Overall, it was a quick enjoyable read. I’d give it a 3.5 rating.

I read the original version of this when it first came out some five years ago. It was among the first m/m stories I ever read. Surprised me when I discovered I liked reading that kind of story. I not only enjoyed this story, but the entire series it was a part of. I have them safely tucked away for reading again purposes. So, when I saw this one come up as a revised re-issue, I had to give it a read.

As it has been five years since I have read this, not all of the changes are obvious to me, but some of them were very obvious. I did not find the transition from the previous series to the new one to be totally smooth. I understand the need for the change, but . . . Maybe if I hadn’t read and loved the previous book, and series, this would have worked better for me. But, alas, I did. So, I think I am finding myself being a bit prejudiced.

The characters are interesting and fairly well developed. I liked them well enough. They had spark and connection. The plot moved along at a good pace and kept me engaged throughout. The club was the basic “private – members only” type BDSM club. Or so it appears at this introduction. I will be interested in reading other stories in the “Escape” series to see how that develops.

This introductory chapter made for a nice bed-time story. I had pleasant dreams.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I am looking forward to reading more. Although the cover leaves you with the feeling that this is going to be a bit hard core, this book is very sweet, for lack of a better word. Simon is a Dominant who had been in a relationship where he was in it for the long haul, whereas his sub was not. After the sub walked out, Simon lost his confidence that made him a great Dom. Aside from not going out much, he was struggling with his bookstore not making money. He decides to hire a consultant to help identify how he can turn it around.

Gavin is a sub. He had a great Dominant, but the man developed cancer and passed away. For three years, Gavin has been in mourning, but he decides to try going out. There is a brand new, very exclusive club that has opened and he needs to see if he can move forward. His former Dom wanted that for him.

The two men find themselves together at the club and it goes very well. But it was supposed to be a one night deal. Gavin never expected to be face to face with Master S as the consultant to the book store. Things go sideways for these men as they try to figure out what comes next.

This is a quick read that is a lot of fun. It is sexy, yet not hardcore. I think it would make the perfect beach read for the summer. Looking forward to more books in this series!

The Dom Around The Corner is an enjoyable, novella length m/m BDSM romance. It was actually quite a sweet story with a good amount of spice added by the kink. The storyline is fairly straightforward, but the fabulous characters bring it to life. I read it in one sitting and it definitely left me with a smile on my face - the steamy scenes also left me feeling hot and bothered!

Simon is in his thirties and owns a struggling book store. He has been feeling lonely recently and has no real private life due to spending long hours at his store. Simon is a well respected Dom but is feeling disenchanted with the local BDSM scene. This changes when he visits a new club and meets submissive Gavin. After an intense night together he wakes up to find Gavin gone. However they meet again when Simon's new business consultant turns out to be Gavin.

Both Gavin and Simon are adorable characters. Yes I know it may sound strange to describe a stern Dom as adorable, but he really was! Simon and Gavin both have baggage from their pasts which they'll need to overcome if they are to find happiness. This is a well written story that gets four out of five stars.

I give this 4 1/2 stars.

This is a new take on how a BDSM relationship works for two males. It was something that I found interesting.

Simon is a bookstore owner that is having business troubles. He is also on that is having relationship problems. He had a sub but when Simon started taking him out more that is when things went south for him. Now he was going to club that he really ad no interest in just to try and find a release. When his cousin told him about a new club he was reluctant at first but then made the call and went.

Gavin had lost his Sir three year ago. Ever since he had felt like he couldn't move on because of the guilt he felt. When he moves to a new town for a fresh start and visits a club what he didn't expect was to see a man he thought could lead somewhere. He didn't want to think like that. But after that night and he meets his new client that just so happens to be the same person he was not sure of what to think. Could Simon help Gavin over his guilt? Could Simon give Gavin what he need and Gavin return it?

I would recommend this to readers who like to read gay BDSM books. It is new way to look at reading.

I received my copy from Riptide through NetGalley

The Dom Around the Corner is a very hot, short and rather sweet story about two men who desperately need each other and are afraid to give into that need because of past experiences.

The reader really only gets to see how well these two men connect together when they play. Although they do spend time together outside the dungeon or bedroom and they do get on there, the pull between them is far less obvious. Mind you, the three encounters we get to witness leave the reader in no doubt these two men belong together. While I wouldn’t have complained if we’d spend more time with Simon and Gavin in different situations, I can’t bring myself to complain about what we did get to experience with them; hot doesn’t begin to describe it.

If you’re in the mood for a well plotted hot story about two men who clearly belong together and the journey they need to take before they are able to admit that, you’ll enjoy The Dom Around the Corner. There’s some angst, but not too much and not drawn out – just the way I like it. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Gavin and Simon.
