Rate this book
20 Re-Inventing the Arts and Arts Education for the 21st Century is an anthology of critical discourse that addresses the impending generational shift in arts leadership by publishing twenty essays about the future of the arts and arts education each written by young and emerging arts professionals under the age of forty. In the process of doing so, 20UNDER40 brings the voices of young arts leaders out of the margins and into the forefront of our cultural dialogue.

one chapter down. not impressed. i hope the rest are better.

I have tried....for many moons....to get through this book. But, unfortunately, many chapters do NOT introduce new and exciting ideas from the young. They are the same ideas, written by the young. There are exceptions, to be sure. But I think several of the chapters were chosen because the editor wanted to represent various fields, rather than because they were truly great, with innovative concepts and excellent writing.

So, I'm officially shelving it for now.

A must read for anyone in the arts admin field. Not all of the essays were applicable or of interest to me, but I read what I found most relevant, and really enjoyed learning from my peers. Great writing, great ideas, and great leaders. Hopefully they'll all stay in the arts management field!
