This is fairy tale stuff. A normal girl goes to Russia, meets a billionaire, gorgeous prince, and ends up married to him. However, this fairy tale heroine has to work hard for her happy ending. Her fairy tale prince is a prisoner in his self-constructed tower of loneliness. Driven by vengeance, he has closed himself off to love. It will take a courageous, determined heroine to conquer this prince.

Russia sung its siren song to me through this book. I liked the touches that Ms. Harris added to make it realistic. I was fully immersed in this story, with its beautiful accents of Russian language and culture.

I didn't find this book as passionate as I had hoped for a Harlequin Presents, and I don't mean sex. I mean I felt that Alexei held himself too isolated from Paige, and I didn't feel a sense that he was desperate for her. That's something I love in a hero, a hero that is so much in love/captivated with the heroine that all bets are off. I wanted to see more of that feeling from Alexei. When I read a plain jane romance, I want to feel that yes, the hero is the man who finds her irresistible and falls madly in love with her. To me it seems very obvious that a man can fall for a beautiful, glamorous woman that has everything going for her. That's not escapism in its purest form, it's fairly plausible in real life. But for a prince to fall for a normal girl, that gets my romantic heart beating fast. I did feel that Paige felt hard and fast, and that Alexei held all the cards too long, not a preferred scenario for me. Eventually, I came to see that Paige had found the key to Alexei's well-guarded heart and he couldn't stay away from Paige or deny his love any longer, but I guess I didn’t feel it as much as I wanted to. As a positive, I did like that when Alexei finally opens up, he tells her Paige all his painful secrets, revealing himself fully to her.

Although Russians hail from a land of bitter cold, I view them as strong, enduring people of fiery emotions, so I wanted to see more of that emotionalism in Alexei. That was really my issue with this book, why I didn’t rate it higher. I like for a Harlequin Presents to have that zing, and this one was more of a mild buzz, although it was written well.

Still a good book, especially if you like Russian settings and Russian characters. I liked that Ms. Harris worked hard to give it an authentic feel in that regard. And I thought Paige was a good heroine, an everyday kind of girl that I imagine I would like very much if I knew her in real life. I’m so glad she got her happy ending.

The evocative setting of Russia in winter really made this story.

Heroine was the generic responsible older sister who lost out on the OM to her carefree sister. Hero was the self-made Russian cousin to the American OM. Hero has vowed revenge on his cousin and courts the heroine as part of the plan.

Heroine is devastated when hero's plan works. They would have gone their separate ways, except heroine is pregnant. This is where the story lost steam. The author threw in a last minute OW and a miscarriage scare and revenge remorse from the hero. The happy family bbq epilogue was not earned since we are told and not shown the cousins reconciling.

Still, this was a refreshing change in the HP line.

This was such a beautiful story about the healing powers of love, forgiveness and of letting go of the past. I am glad I waited for the right mood to strike me before I read this wonderful book.

Alexei was almost perfect. I loved how he evolved gradually from a cold, calculated ruthless business tycoon whose only aim in life seemed to wreck the lives of people who had destroyed his family to a warm , sensitive, forgiving man who embraced life openly and accepted the blessings of love. I have a weakness for Russian heroes and Alexei swept me off my feet. Though he was burning with revenge and he wanted to use Paige to help him destroy the Russell's. He was quite attracted to her and though he intended to use her, he never did.

Paige was a very sweet heroine who was fiercely loyal and protective of people she loved. She was just the kind of person Alexei needed to brighten up his gloomy existence. She was kind and generous but she could also stand up and fight for what she believes in. She was not scared by Alexei's standoffish attitude and decided to take things into her hand and pursue him and answers from him.

I loved the story! It made me go through so many varied emotions as the characters laughed and cried. This is definitely one of Lynn Raye Hariis' best books and it certainly is my favorite.

This is a story about the dark, handsome knight in shining armour rescuing the beautiful and sweet heroine.
I don’t usually like stories about the new Russian oligarchs but Alexei Voronov was a great hero. An impoverished, handsome Russian prince who struggled to regain his wealth and is determined to get his revenge on his rival.
Paige Barnes, is hardworking and always helping others. One night, alone in the dark streets of Moscow, looking for her sister, she is rescued rescued by Alexei, her boss’s arch rival. The romance between them is sweet and passionate.
The setting of a winter in Russia is great.
A sweet book. I enjoyed it.

A very pleasant HP. Not a melodramatic angst fest. There was just enough conflict to keep it interesting. I liked the Russian setting. I felt that it was used well. The hero wasn't really an ass just mixed up emotionally. The heroine was sweet. Well written and the plot hung together pretty well without going in depth about the whole business scenario. I would be willing to try this author again.

I loved the Russian setting but the heroine left quite a bit to be desired. She needed to grow a spine and not let the hero tell her what was going to happen. A bit of an eye roller in parts too with the usual HQ Presents drama.

This the the story of Prince Alexei Voronvo who's mission in life is to get back everything that had belonged in his family and he is not above using Paige Barnes to get what he needs.

They meet when the Prince rescues her from 3 men that are chasing her. He has her pretend they are lovers making love in the dark against a building, to avoid detection from the men. What Paige feels from that make out session sends her up in flames. She has never felt that kind of passion. She has been so busy working and raising her sister after their mothers death, that there has not been anytime for herself.

When he gets her back to his townhouse and finds out who she is, he thinks she is there to spy on him to find information that would make him lose his last deal. He returns her the next morning to her hotel, but after a meeting he later follows her into the hotel restaurant and talks her into going with him to dinner elsewhere. She goes but only when he promises her that her boss will not run into them. His plan all along is to use her for info. " I have got to say I hate personally when people are used but hang in there with this novel" where he takes her is his palace in St. Petersburg. They enjoy a wonderful meal and she talks him into talking about his family which he never talks about with anyone. From there they enjoy what would be called a sleigh ride here in the states. He kisses her and passion ignites. She is ready to start living for herself and agrees she wants him. They return to the palace were he finds out she is a Virgin "there is a slight story there also" she is already falling for him. They both fall asleep but are awoken by his phone ringing. As he is flying her back to her Hotel he finds out he has won and tells her and this is where she figures out she was being used. Even though she never betrayed her boss she tells him she will never work for him when she gets back home to Texas. He leaves her at the hotel.

The story picks up a month later when she as promised had quit her job and with the help of a friend has found a new one at a law firm. But all is not well. Paige has been really tired of late and now feels sick. After her friend talks to her she realizes that she might be pregnant. This might sound lame to some, but she truly was nursing hurt feelings and lost in her own heartache so I found it very believable. Well who should show up on her door but the Prince himself. Once he finds out she is pregnant he whisks her off to Russia and marries her, but there he leaves her in the palace. On her own with staff and coaches to teach her Russian etc. she is very lonely.

I need to stop here. Trust me when I say there is way more to this book than meets the eye. I realize that I might not have written the best review but trust me when I say. There are reasons why he stayed away from her, which when are answered make a lot of sense. I did hate that he was going to use her in the beginning but then again there are reasons. I personally don't like people using others but when you find out why again it makes sense.

Lynn Raye Harris when she writes a novel has a way of making you feel like you are there in the setting or that you can feel the character feelings. That takes great talent. I felt like I learned things about Russia I did not know before aka food and yes I had heard about the winters there and the nights being lighter but she explained it so well that I felt like I was the one looking out the Palace windows and seeing the skies. Well done.

This was a really good book, with an important life lesson weaved within the pages. I have often tried to teach my own kids, that if you carry around hurt, or anger, you are only hurting yourself. You are not hurting the person that caused that pain. Once you let go of that pain, and anger, Love, and Peace can be found. Alexei had been carrying around anger, and pain for 15 years. The pain of losing his family. Once he was able to let go of that anger and pain, he was able to feel Love, and peace.

The story starts out with Paige running from men that wanted to hurt her. When Alexei herd her scream he came to her aid. Alexie knew Paige wasn’t like any other women he had ever known. He showed her one magical evening. The night was like a fairy tale, which most of us can only picture in dreams. That night they created a baby. The story has twist and turns, and the suspense was good. There were parts I wanted to yell at Alexei, but that is typical in books like this.

I’m from Texas, so I really enjoyed the last chapter.
**Spoiler** My favorite part of the book, that came from last chapter.
Sample from Chapter 13 – “”But, Paige, I have been drawn to you from the first moment I met you. You are unlike anyone I’ve ever known. You are so fierce and strong, yet you don’t seem to always know it. You are uncertain of yourself sometimes, uncertain of your beauty and appeal, and you have the kindest heart of anyone I know. You cry over art, you laugh like an angel, and you’d fight to the death to protect those you love.” The tears were flowing down her cheeks now, and he wiped them away with his thumbs. “Shh, Please don’t cry, Paige. It breaks my heart when you cry.”

i absolutely loved it !! this was a keeper ! i who thought i didn't like plain jane heroines, i was greatly surprised. infact it's usually the books which i love best because you really see how the love evolved and how the hero fell in love with the complete package and not only wid her lustful body ! this one was definitely a great read with just the right pace..not all authors can do that. there's usually some part which seems odd in a book; as if it was not appropriate at that particular moment or it got boring as the author could not maintain the pace. but not this one! as i said, it was just the right pace and always entertaining. the start was absolutely unique !! it made me think of another favourite of mine, the sultan's choice by abby green. in that also, the heroine was an ugly duckling but i loved it amazingly. if you loved this one, don't miss the sultan's choice. i must point out that paige was not plain but it was she who felt awfully plain and dressed down. it was logical that she had an inferiority complex bcoz her sister was tall, blonde and gorgeous. so though she was pretty, she felt plain.

Wow…what could I say more? It was engaging form the first page to the last; I just couldn’t put it down, I finished it in one setting.
Alixie was charming and sophisticated, a true prince. Paige was a normal girl; I really felt I could relate to her. And the ending was so full of emotion I just couldn't stop crying. (which is the norm for me lol)
Lynn Raye Harris is fast becoming my favorite author.

Behind the Palace Walls
4 Stars

Paige Barnes and Alexei Voronov are both appealing characters. She is shy and quiet but has a core of steel that is apparent from her back story and her interactions with Alexei. She stands up for herself against his bullying tendencies.

Unlike the more domineering HP heroes, Alexei's dark, broody and cold facade is the result of a traumatic past, and his fear of loss has made it difficult for him to become emotionally attached. Paige is his perfect match as she forces him to take a long look at himself and reevaluate his life choices.

The plot itself is a well written and engaging pseudo-office romance as Paige is not actually employed by Alexei Voronov, but rather by his business rival. Harris thankfully avoids the angst-ridden pitfalls of the annoying keeping secrets trope as both Paige and Alexei are up front about their agendas.

All in all, a light and satisfying read and the setting of Moscow and St. Petersburg in the winter added another layer of interest to the story.

This was a pretty average Unexpected Pregnancy book. It went through all of the usual motions. A one night stand followed by an argument that separates the couple for just long enough for the heroine to start throwing up her breakfast. A hasty wedding followed by estrangement. The Evil Other Woman makes her requisite appearance. All very standard for this type of book. There were some things that I felt were done well and others that were not so it all balances out to an average story.

Things I liked:
I thought the heroine, Paige, had more backbone than you typically see in these books. She did knuckle under sometimes, but she also stood up and demanded to be treated better at other times. I also liked that the hero, Alexei, wasn't just an overbearing jerk who bullied the heroine into submission while treating her with no respect, as is typical of these books. He was a pretty nice guy, all things considered.

What I didn't like:
I never understood why Paige went on and on about Alexei "betraying" her at the beginning of the book. He and Paige's boss, Chad, are arch rivals and are in Moscow competing over a make-or-break business deal. When Paige and Alexei meet he, for about 5 minutes, entertains the idea of seducing some information out of her but that plan died almost as soon as it began. Paige even comes right out and says that she doesn't know anything so if that's his plan, he's barking up the wrong tree. The business meeting happens and both sides give their best pitch. Afterward, Alexei and Paige sleep together. Then he gets the call that the deal went in his favor....and Paige acts like he's done something terrible to her. Huh??

She never gave him any information and he never even asked her any questions. So he didn't sleep with her for any ulterior motive. And her reason for being upset that he won the business deal is because her sister is currently sleeping with Chad and it will negatively impact her sister's happiness if Chad goes bankrupt. Well, gee whiz Paige, now that you've said that, I'm sure anyone in Alexei's place would just call off the multi-billion dollar deal. Is she on crack? She acts like Alexei has personally done something to harm her and her sister by following through with this business deal that has been in the works for years. Yeah, get over yourself honey. She knew who Alexei was and that he was fully invested in this business deal BEFORE she slept with him. So she's got no right to feel betrayed when it turns out he won the deal. It was just an excuse to have them break up for long enough for her to come up pregnant and it was a very weak one at that.

I also didn't understand why Paige was so insistent that Alexei make peace with his estranged family. She didn't know anything about them and yet insisted that he needed to extend the olive branch. Even after she found out what terrible things they'd done, she still insisted he try to reconcile. I didn't understand why she was so convinced this was necessary for Alexei to be happy. It sounded to me like they were toxic people it would be better to keep out. Yet the book portrays this as being the 100% correct course of action.

Aside from that, the author's writing was kind of weird. All through the book people had very sharp feelings...literally. Feelings "speared" "stabbed" "punctured" "cut" and "arrowed" (which isn't even a word) through people. It started to get a little creepy after a while. Where was the editor on this one?

All in all it was an average read. The hero and heroine were better than you usually see in these types of books but the plot was kind of weak and didn't support the conflicts that the author tried to build up.

A likeable and readable romance
4 stars

When Paige Barnes finds herself scared and alone on the dark streets of Moscow she is more than surprised to find herself rescued by the intriguing and mysterious Alexei Voronov - a Russian prince and her boss's arch rival.

Although she knows she should stay away, once Alexei sets his sights on shy, bespectacled Paige neither can anticipate the passion that flares between them. But what are his true motives and how will their relationship develop when he discovers she is carrying his royal heir?

As soon as I started reading this book I began to enjoy it. Unlike other Modern books I have read, Alexei is the perfect blend of arrogance and kindness. You can understand why he acts as he does and he comes across as the perfect, brooding hero. Paige, too, is a good heroine and although shy, she isn't as insipid or weak as other heroines I have read even if I did want her to be a little bit bolder when it came to her sister. Together they have good chemistry and a relationship you can root for.

The story was interesting and kept you wanting to read and turn the pages. The storyline is quite simple but that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially since there isn't any annoying secondary romance to distract from the main love story.

If you're not a fan of romance novels or don't enjoy Mills and Boon novels then perhaps this isn't the book for you! However, if you do like a good romantic story that will allow you to escape for a couple of hours then I can definitely recommend this book. It's got good characters who work well together and a storyline that's interesting and keeps you wanting to turn the pages. I enjoyed it a lot. 4 stars.

I rate this 2.5 stars.

Adult romance novels are a guilty pleasure of mine. I now that there are problems with some of them and that most contain love at first sight (which I usually hate), but there's just something about these novels that is so addicting. I have read many Harlequin Presents and some other adult romance novels and while I enjoy some, I also understand that there are many flaws with these and usually I don't mind them as much.

I enjoy romance novels where the girl is hard to get throughout at least half of the novel and it seems more realistic instead of falling for the guy the minute you see him. Does that even happen in real life, is that even possible?

Review to come later.

(I'm not sure if I will write more of my thoughts on the book later or if I'll just leave it like this).

In the beginning Paige Barnes is hiding from some shady characters in Moscow. Her prince in shining Armoni helps her in a very kinky way. Afterwards she finds out that he is in real life a true Russian prince. But his good deed was not so good as the story goes on. He is in fact at the right place and time to undermine her boss in an important business deal. Alexei Voronov is the enemy. What happens there is the rest of the story. As he sweeps her around and wines and dines her he has ulterior motives. Will the truly innocent Paige get away unscathed? Or will the prince become more than a prince in just name? I listened and enjoyed her journey as told by Laurence Bouvard. Her accents kept me in stitches.

So many twists and turns

A great book—so many unexpected things happen, keeping you on the edge of your sear. Paige unknowingly gets herself into a depth of trouble with her sister and her employer after a night of recklessness. But the repercussions don’t end there because the man she was with takes some actions that basically destroy her employer’s business. But there are even more repercussions when she finds herself pregnant, married to the man and moving to his home in Russia. I don’t want to say too much to spoil the little twists and surprises in this book. But I’ve read it twice and it was just as good the second time!

It was ok, it wasn't horrible but not very memorable. Having just read it I can barely recall the characters names. I did like he stayed celibate during the 6 weeks they were apart, but he did go out with another woman and considered sleeping with her. P.
