OK. Hot guy-check. Beautiful heroine-check. Great premise-check! But I'm tellin y'all, my head is SORE from being hit over it in the author's attempt to hammer in who these people are instead of just telling a story that allows me to figure it out for myself.
When someone can actually verbalize "I've suffered from a lack of affection all my life", then is not a condition they can shift between being clueless about and aware of. I like books that have telling MOMENTS where we see for ourselves what makes this person who they are. I dislike it when its spelled out in an effort to get me to sympathize or like them more. Theres only so many platitudes you can give to accent how ultimately badass a guy is. Sometimes, its better to just let him DO things and allow the reader to be impressed. And while I like flawed characters, its hard to admire a women who KNOWS she's being mistreated yet does nothing about it for years and years. Jayde is strong physically and shows inner strength when push comes to shove. But the fact that she allowed everyone in her life to continually wipe their feet on her back was a huge turn off. And it seemed like they kept fluctuating with the acknowledgement of their feelings, even to themselves. One moment, they were professing thinking it was love, professing it was love.....then the next they are back to not knowing if its ok to even say the words and being surprised when they are said.
Just-I don't know. It was an ok read. But ultimate there were just so many things I wanted to BACKSPACE over and rewrite it turned me off. But definitely not the worst IR I've read. Its actually well written in terms of flow, detail and grammar overall. Again, the devil is just in the details.
This was my first and definitely not my last read of the Megalodon Team series. I believe this is the first book and if it's any indication as to what I can expect from the rest of the series I'm going to read them ALL!!!! I really enjoyed the action packed story that took place. You get far more than a complicated romance based on their interracial relationship and personal problems.
Tyson Kincade -
Tyson is tall, with dark hair and hazel eyes. He is a Navy SEAL and travels all around the world fighting for what he thinks is right. He is HOT, possessive, and all Alpha!
That is until he sustains an injury that places him on medical leave for some time. He decides to spend his vacation of sorts in Belize. He is down on love because of his previous relationship and just prays that he can go back to work because without that he doesn't feel he has anything to look forward to anymore.
To his utter surprise life had something far more than just surviving in the plans for him.
Jayde Porter -
Jayde is on vacation in Belize. She has just finished taking care of her ailing cousin who passed away and needs time away from her horrendous family to think and breath. Jayde has some important decisions to make. Like figuring out who she is and what she wants in life.
Jayde is an artist but her family doesn't see that as a "real" profession and expect her to do more with her life. They also expect her to be at their beck and call like a true modern day Cinderella. Jayde is tired of the expectations on her and her families constant meddling and making her feel less than.
While pondering her next move Jayde realizes that life may be changing for the better with one look across the boardwalk.
Tyson and Jayde have an instant connection and find it easy to tease and banter with one another. Quickly they find themselves in a situation that calls for extreme measures.
In between fighting for their lives they embark on a roller coaster ride of passion while quickly building trust as if their lives depend on it... because they do.
When it's all said and done they have some major decisions to make. Will they let Jayde's family and their thoughts on their interracial relationship stop them? Have they truly found love in one another or are they just too different to make it work? Most of all are they brave enough to step out of their comfort zones and take what they want?
I was a little annoyed at this book. No, I take it back, I was more than a little annoyed.
The rest of this is going to be one spoiler filled rant...so, if you haven't read the book, stop reading this now.
You know what chaps me most about this? The total dichotomy of the characters. On one hand, Jayde is a confident, take charge kind of woman, but she's also allowed herself to be victimized by her entire immediate family (with the exception of her grandparents) her ENTIRE life?!
Jayde allows her family to call her almost hourly while she is on vacation to berate her...Why not just not answer? Or better yet, tell them to bugger off? This smart woman who has the ability to keep up with a SEAL, can rock climb, is obviously super fit, is smart and sassy, and keeps her wits about her in high stress situations (and saves the SEAL's bacon twice...literally) has such a messed up relationship with her family, it's just...Argh!!
Then you have Kincade. He's a SEAL, but not, but is. He professes one minute to make sure Jayde will always be safe....Then leads the bad guys directly to her, expecting that a woman who has known him less than 24 hours, will be able to suss out and save him by lying that they're married...and she does. And then the bad guys force them to "renew" their vows? Ok, I'll go with it....whatever.
But somehow, it's not that convincing, so they shoot down their getaway plane. After their plane is shot down, and they are traipsing through the jungle, Kincade goes to a guerilla camp, kills two guys, and then LEADS THE REST BACK TO HER??
And in all this time, never explains that, hey...they really are married - that wasn't a sham - and that while, yes, he had been seeing someone quite seriously, but broke off their engagement, he is, in fact, fully committing to this One-Day-Shotgun type marriage.
I mean, come on! They tell each other they love each other, but because he calls out his ex's name, while he is in a fever induced state from a POISON bullet, she just walks away?! And his best friend lets her?!
Then Kincade leaves her for four months, and still no one explains that they are really married!?
And then after five months, he shows back up and it's suddenly hearts and flowers and love you's?!
I liked the idea of the plot, but it was missing some things or lacked because other things were beat into you...you know cause it is said over and over and over. Several things that happened did not make sense. Jayde was strong and smart but does not demand answers? Kincade's decisions were questionable for a SEAL in several places. It is hard reviewing this book and not giving anything away. It was not a horrible read. I felt it could have been drawn out so the characters could show their strengths/ weaknesses rather than repeatedly be told about. Let me see the love rather than say it over and over. Hopefully, as the series progresses, the writing gets better.
I chose to revisit this story and my original review remains true.
This was indeed a short story. Moved a little too fast for my taste which made the whole thing unbelievable. You meet a woman for barely an hour, go to dinner and suddenly you're committed? "Something about Jayde made him want to give commitment a chance"-------oh really now??? i wonder what that something is? because up til now Jayne hasn't said much about herself. Sigh* i wanted to like it but it's all a big cliche.
I really liked the book I especially the way Tyson helped Jayde stand up to her family. The one thing I did not like was when he kept calling her little rose she was not a child and I hated it. The action , the romance and the story telling is this book was wonderful.I cant wait to read the next installment of this series.
The Seal and the warrior Amazon woman, what a story
I loved this story. They were two people who were on different paths that crossed, just like the duel falling stars they saw, and their lives were forever changed.
Tyson Randolph Kincade found his perfect Navy Seal wife in Jayde Rose Porter, his little rose. They were thrown together and married by chance but chose to face the world together, working through all of the trepidations Jayde felt because of how her family treated her. Cade, as his team called him, was determined to make sure he kept his Megalodon Amazon. Jayde, not fully acknowledging that she is stronger than she thinks she is, comes to understand that. She's finally tired of how her family treats her and stands up to them.
Maybe and Tyson both realized that they found true love. They'd faced danger and disapproval and survived. All is left is the future, no matter how long that may be, as long as they are side by side.
This was an enjoyable read. I found myself rooting for the unlikely couple. This story was full suspense and drama which I liked. I think I've found a new series to read.
This romance starts off so strong and keeps it up until the last quarter of the book. Jayde and Tyson are interesting people though it would have been nice to get a bit more info on Tyson, it's not like they didn't have time to talk about it. Speaking of talking, the conflict between the two if you can call it that should not have been one at all because they had so much time to talk to one another. Even if Ms. Burke wanted to let it continue the way she did, a simple phone conversation should have taken care of it. Then there's Jayde's family issue at the end of the novel, I just didn't get it. The said reason for the family's behavior especially her father just didn't work for me because it only brough up more questions. Regardless of the problems with the last quarter of the novel, I still enjoyed it, I just can't give it four stars.
4.5 stars max! I totally loved this book. It had me in love and in suspense and action. Yes, I did put the emphasis in the and. But it was great, Tyson, dreamy how he loved Jayden can be my protector anytime. Jayden, go head mama! I am proud of you to, for standing up to your family. I was in my seat while reading with anxiety, wondering what if... OMG, what's going to happen, I didn't want to spoil it for me, I was enjoying both character every step of the way. How two different persons can connect regards of race and color. This book open your eyes, that even though everyone was raised in different cultural, there is no discrimination in love. Bravo to Ms. Burke, for a well written story. Thank you.
Didn't make it pass chapter 4 before I gave up and sent the book back for a refund. I'm sure it's a good story and my being sick made it hard to focus, but I just couldn't get into it. I will say that out of the four chapters I read, I'm happy there was no random-stranger sex. Maybe I'll try again later.
Great concept, started off good but in the quest for adventure the storyline lost credibility. Yes it's romance, yes it's fiction but don't let me know that
Although the storyline was interesting the writing was terrible which is such a shame. The author tells rather then shows and the characters don’t talk how people talk. I didn’t really understand jaydes character. She seemed to come from a very controlling family who didn’t care about her and yet they were always keeping tabs on her rather then ignoring her. She also seemed too assertive to be that controlled which again didn’t go with the tears she was always crying. It’s a shame cause I’d like to read the other megalodon books but their are much better writers out there unless the books get better as they go on
This story was so good. I wasn't able to put it down. I fell in love with Kincade. They way he took care of Jayde was a great example of unconditional love. Great read
Part with her dad was kind of random and felt like it was just tossed out there. The rest of the story was meh. Love the author so I’m praying that the 2nd book will be better!
Beautifully written love story crossing across racial lines. Interestingly, suspense thriller as well. I don't personally think this sort of story is taboo in any way. Love is love.
I really liked this book. I found it well written and extremely interesting. Both characters were brave and inspiring. The storyline was very exciting.
I didn’t make it out of chapter three. Started off good but too many things were just too far fetched. I may make another attempt in the future. But not today
A SEAL and his lover undergo extremely difficult situations in both the city and the jungle and both act as super humans - but in love and with all the insecurities that one can have. One other issue that is well explored in this story is the difficulty families sometimes have in dealing with interracial couples and different upbringings. Also it clearly discusses the role women are sometimes expected to fullfill being subservient and accepting orders from parents, brothers, boyfriends, husbands and so on in detriment of their own wishes. Entertaining.
**SPOILERS** This was the first book that I'd read by the author, and overall the book wasn't too bad, not great, but not the worst either. First the grammatical and spelling errors DROVE ME CRAZY! There were so many mistakes that sometimes I was really shaking my head and rolling my eyes to the sky wondering "why"!! Spell and grammar check people! I don't care who published it! Have that stuff edited before taking it to production, even if its just your home-girls doing it. I'm not a great speller, but I'm not putting out a book either, lets get better at that. I felt like the story moved really quick, our main characters have one date, and then BAM! Married and on the run, and this woman just went with the flow! I guess that's why its a book, real life is never this cut and dry!! Jayde had no serious reaction when she found out she was not only in danger because of Tyson, but that he was a Navy SEAL and he neglected to mention it after the fact!! I did enjoy once Tyson and Jayde were in the jungle and she kept surprising him with her knowledge on random stuff around them, including her ability to rock climb. I was confused as to why it took so long, once they were rescued and Jayde sent home, for Tyson to seek her out if he wanted her so much. I feel like a Navy SEAL isn't going to take no for an answer if it deals with a woman he wants, but he waited 4 months to contact her!! Past all of that, the one thing that also really bothered me was how badly Jayde was treated by her family. And then once we find out why she was treated the way she was, when her father confessed his sins, she accepted him and it all so easily, like she forgot the 29 years of mistreatment she got from her "mother" and her siblings, and the cold shoulder her father gave her. I feel like she should have had a more honest reaction about why her father didn't do more to prevent her "mother" from treating her like garbage, but he just silently stood by, claiming that it was for the best, because whenever he showed Jayde affection, the "mother" would pick on her!! Well man, if that is what you were seeing, HE SHOULD HAVE PUT A STOP TO IT! Instead he left his daughter feeling totally alone and unloved. That isn't something that should be polished over, just because he finally admitted he actually did love you and was proud! UGH! Yeah I hated that scene, he got off too easy!! In any case, despite all my fussing, there was a great deal of fantasy in the book that I enjoyed. Just imagine, being on vacation, and not only seeing a man that makes your tongue hang out your mouth and dirty thoughts to ensue, but later meeting him and finding out he had the same reaction to you! If that alone isn't sigh worthy, then I don't know what is! LOL! I loved how Jayde and Tyson met, how attracted to one another they were, despite the fact that he wasn't a man who considered himself attracted to black women, just like she didn't consider herself attracted to white men, but low and behold, they fell for each other just like that!!! I loved how protective he was, and how much she trusted him, despite only just meeting him. Yes, fantasy, such a lovely thing when the real world is beating you down! LOL! I feel like there might be another story after this one featuring Tyson's SEAL team home-boy Scott and his love interest, so I am going to check into that. As far as my suggestion to read this, I will have to say, you need to find out for yourself, check out a sample or just take a chance and read it. It's not too bad, sweet and romantic in a simple kind of way.

I'm a big fan of this author, but I was disappointed in the book. I want to start with what I liked. I really liked the jungle scenes. The author really put a lot work in theses chapters. She seemed capture the jungle environment well. I also liked how Jayde's character changed due to Tyson. She went from being a pushover to a stronger woman who told controlling family members no. She tells the director of the CIA that she is not in the mood for more threats. I also enjoyed the shift from Tyson taking care of Jayde to Jayde taking care of him. I laughed when Jayde losses it in chapter 7. I thought it was well deserved. Another humorous scene was the entire team waking them up in the safe house. The author excelled at foreshadowing in this book. In chapter 1 Jayde can't tell Tyson what she really wants, but by chapter 15 she states her desires. Another example of foreshadow happens in chapter 16. Meymaw tells Jayde that her father is proud of her and on page 141 he tells her himself. And one of the things I liked best was the cover. Not only did it match the story, it was taken from a scene in the book. There was a part of the book that confused me. I was confused by overheard conversation about Carrie. In chapter 6, Jayde overhears Tyson and Scott discussing Carrie. Jayde thinks that he wants her back. In chapter 13, Jayde tells Scott that she overheard the Carrie conversation. Scott tries to correct her, but she will not listen. In the following chapter, 14, Scott tells Tyson that Jayde overheard them talking about Carrie. In that same chapter, Tyson is shocked when Jayde tells him she heard his conversation with Scott in the jungle. He's shocked? Scott told him. I'm not sure if the author left this from previous drafts or this is just poor writing. There were quite a few areas I didn't like. I wrote that Jayde's character was stronger with Tyson's influence. She was not a strong character as I hoped. In chapter 17, the very last chapter of the book, it is Tyson who tells her parents that they are married. She makes it a point of saying she wants to tell her parents in chapter 15, but backs out. Why? The author did not answer why she did not tell them. What was up with Tyson not taking showers? He did not take one after sleeping with her in chapter 6. He also does not take one in chapter 16. I probably would not have paid much attention to it if the author did not give so much detail to Jayde's bathing. This highlights lack of balance in the book. There were grammatical errors especially on page 30. I also felt that Jayde's mother-turned-stepmother with one sentence was anti climatic. She just said it as if she was discussing the weather. There were scenes that I felt were over the top or heavy handed. In chapter 15, the whole red, white and blue second full paragraph of the chapter was too much. I also felt like I was reading a scene from An Officer and A Gentleman when Tyson picks up Jayde and presents her to the heavens at the dinner party. I also felt the ending was too much. It could have been shorter. And one of two main reasons I read romance, the sex scenes, were lacking in detail. They reminded me of the movie scenes where the screen gets hazy and fades to black.

Jayde Porter is on vacation in Belize when she literally runs into the handsome and charming Navy SEAL, Tyson Kincaide. Sparks instantly fly and Jayde and Tyson feel an immediate pull. When Tyson's job gets in the way of their slowly developing relationship, the two marry/renew their vows in order to appease authorities who do no believe Tyson is just on vacation with his wife (a lie he told in order to eliminate further interrogation and torture). Thinking the marriage wouldn't be valid once she returns to the States, Jayde agrees. She and Tyson then have to brave the jungle of Guatamala and avoid the people trying to kill them, all the while falling in love.
I really enjoyed this story. Tyson was amazing: strong, caring and protective. He was willing to do anything to keep Jayde safe and I could feel the strength and intensity of his love for her. The way he looked at her, would make any woman melt. I liked Jayde when she was first introduced, but as the story progressed I became more and more annoyed with her behavior. I often found myself frustrated with this character because one minute she was powerful and clever and the next she acted like a silly teenaged girl.
Then there is the issue of Jayde's family. They were some of the most evil, lazy, self-centered bunch of folks I've ever seen. Their treatment of Jayde was appalling and I wish I could have known what happened after her father's revelation at the end. I would have found great satisfaction in seeing them all knocked down a peg or two, especially Jayde's mother, siblings and ex-boyfriend.
All in all, I really enjoyed this love story. They don't get much better than Tyson! *swoon*
Kincade's Rose is book #1 in the Megalodon Team series and I look forward to reading the others, especially Scott's story! His character intrigued me.
One of my two favorites in the series. Certainly the most action of any of the books in the series, which really added to its enjoyment. The H/H are both strong characters that are equally capable and ready to make sacrifices for each other. Kincade is devoted to keeping her safe, and for a everyday girl Jayde was really strong and dependable. Even if you don't read the entire series, I highly recommend this installment and Harrier's Healer.
Series Review:
The entire series deserves more of 3.5-4 star. The heroes and heroines in all the books are really well done and I like all the characters. So there's nothing wrong exactly with the other books, and I enjoyed them, but there is a definite lack of action for novels feature SEAL Team members. Also, the series rapidly falls into kind of a defined pattern where the H/H fall in love, but the Heroine for some reason can't believe the Hero is committed no matter what the hero says. There is always some sort of break up/get back together just before the end, and none of the woman seem to get it until the guy actually says the words "marry me". It gets a bit tiresome having the hero work so hard for the woman to believe him. But other than that, great series.
WOW a very good book by an author I will be spending more time with.
This story was well written, the characters interesting. Jayde was an amazing heroine that you could not help but fall in love with. She was strong, feisty, smart and very loving. It is not often that I find a heroine was I really like and Jayde proved to be one without all the drama and " I-don't-need-a-man" theme going. She wanted Tyson and she got him.
This story could have dealt a little bit more with the ex, Carrie, and Jayde's family drama. Also I felt that the action part of the story didn't hold my interest, I was wanting Tyson to show me what a badass Seal he could be but this never came through.
Overall a good book, I am looking forward to reading book 2.
