In some ways, this was a fascinating glimpse into Greek orthodoxy. It helped me understand just how different a worldview leaders in that church operate from. I didn’t realize how significant the differences are between the eastern church and the western church. On the other hand, the author’s writing style drove me nuts, and I wish he could communicate more clearly, concisely, and concretely what he was trying to get at.

Though I may not have agreed with every point John Chryssavgis made, I did find and learn several points of information. There were lots of elements that would lead to a great discussion. While much is addressed to clergy, I did appreciate the part the laity play in this "art" of spiritual direction.

A little light on specifics of spiritual direction, and includes some questionable patristics sources in the ending section.
