David-Seeking a Heart Like His by Beth Moore is the best Bible study I’ve done yet! WOW! I learned so much and it was a fantastic look at David’s whole life with its ups and downs. What an inspiration! Not only did this study focus on David’s life going through I and II Samuel but also into Kings and Chronicles. One of my favorite features of this Bible study was that she also pointed out Psalms that David wrote as he went through certain events of his life or looked back.
I found myself highlighting quite bit in both the book and my Bible as I went through this study. I spent about 45 min. to an hour a day on the daily lessons but the time flew by. There is so much life application included that it just made the scripture really come to life. Although I did it along with a group and viewed Beth Moore’s DVD once a week to introduce each week’s lessons, I got so much more from digging into the daily lessons during the week.
If you want to grow in your walk with the Lord, this will be an eye-opener. It has raised my level of praise, worship, trust, understanding of God and prayer. I cannot say enough good about this study and highly recommend it! Now go order it! (Karen's review)
Beth Moore starts with Israel's plea for a king "like all the other nations" and the ensuing disaster with the beginnings of the reign of Saul, then ushers in the long saga of the "man after God's own heart." She delves into his humble beginnings as a shepherd from a non-influential family in Benjamin and his long trial of first being favored by the king to being his enemy. She describes the incredible family drama, the stresses of kingship, the disasters that befell from ignoring God's commands. It is a story of sin, repentence, repercussions, war, passion, love, anger, despair, hope. David's life shows God's faithfulness from beginning to end, and how He can act through a man, however high he rises to however low he falls. It's not the story of an easy life, but it is the story of a highly blessed one. The lessons to be learned apply to humans, as King David most certainly was; fallible, but with a heart motivated toward God, always finding its way back. 4/5
Since I was a little girl, I connected with David emotionally and admired his heart for God. His life has helped me realize just how unconditional the Love of God really is...and how redeemable every area of our life is. "How deep the Father's love for us, how vast beyond all measure..."
It only took me 7 months to finish this 10 week study. :) I used the accompanying videos, which is what hangs me up. The videos are an hour long each, and it's well worth the time to use them even if it DOES take longer than 10 weeks. Great study.
It's a very good review of the life of King David, and a walk through 1 & 2 Samuel, as well as excerpts from the Chronicles & the Kings books of the Bible. I worked through this without the advantage of the group sessions. While I would have loved to do them - the weekly Bible studies are still very good without them. Be warned - this Bible Study is best if you give it a minimum of an hour a day per week (10 weeks x 5 Bible Studies a week. It could be done over a longer period of time - 20 weeks x 5 Bible Studies each 2 week session, for instance). I pushed my weekly Bible studies into 45 minutes most of the time - and sometimes it was too rushed.
I feel so grateful to have completed this study of King David. It was an in depth study that took me much longer than that 10 suggested weeks. (No problem here with that)!
Because of my study I have connected important (and missing) biblical links-covenants and promises -really my words aren’t adequate.
Beth Moore’s concluding poem and thought about David dancing once again-this time with no one looking upon him with contempt-when our Lord and Messiah reigns on his throne in Jerusalem is a beautiful thought. Come quickly Lord!
I really loved learning more about David! The only thing that I didn't like was the homework questions for Bible study. Normally we go through each question with Beth Moore studies, which I enjoy but this time Beth had a "personal question" (which I don't like) and only one question per day to go over the homework. And the personal questions always derailed our group and took away from the study imo. Aside from that, great study!
What a fantastic study! So glad that we did video lessons one week and the workbook lessons the next. It gave time to personally relate to the study material and to embrace personal responses and applications, as well as making time to discuss the portions of each that either needed deeper explanation and discussion or that truly inspired us. It was the perfect study for what God wanted to do in our hearts and lives this year!
This was an incredible study on the life of David. It showed that even a hero and a king chosen by God himself had his struggles and doubts and temptations but he always found his way back to God. It gives hope to me, knowing I am not alone in any of these things I go through. David experienced them too.
Decent study, by I really believe it could have been done in a shorter period of time. The last two chapters could have been combined, and she repeated some things in three chapters that could have been in only one. I do like the message it has, and do think it is worthy, just feel it could have been more of a 6 or 7 week study.
I would do this study again every single day for the rest of my life, I truly would. Sweet to also start and finish this study with the coming and going of advent season, how the establishment of the line of King David was true and faithful and trustworthy by the Lord.
Beth Moore’s insights and the way she highlights scripture and provides rich history into previous stories in the Word were so beautiful. Her guiding questions were challenging, held me accountable and helped me to see different aspects of the heart of the Father — which is only revealed because of the indwelling and kindness of Holy Spirit.
This is my second favorite study by Beth. Absolutely life-changing. If you've ever wondered about the life of David, do this study! It's so in-depth and thoughtful. Every week I learned something new.
It was a great Bible study! Loved learning all about King David through his life ups and downs. There were a lot of passages to read through during each section and felt I could have dedicated more time. But my main takeaway is that David was always seeking a heart like God and we should too :)
I am new to doing Bible studies. I did this one on my own without the benefit of Beth's videos. I found it to be very engaging. Beth's enthusiasm for the Lord comes through in her writing.
Favorite Beth Moore Bible Study -- and I have done MANY of them!!!
Fabulous Bible Study that chronicles the life of David and the relationship that He had with God. Although David wasn't perfect and made many missteps along the way, his heart always turned back to God with a deep desire to know Him more. Until this in-depth study of David, I never realized the patience that David needed to pursue all that God had planned. He was told he would be king, but went through 3 years of hardship and living in caves to avoid the people that wanted to kill him. He walked through that difficult time in his life and was still able to exhibit grace to his enemies and keep a right heart toward God. There is so much to learn from David’s life and Beth Moore does a wonderful helping us understand why God said that David was a man after God’s own heart.
This is the first formal Bible study that I have completed, and it ha me thirsting for more. Beth Moore is an amazing Bible teacher and the way she presents the life of David and how closely he walked with God truly touched my heart and soul. From David's life, I learned so much more about myself! Some things were things I knew but didn't want to face and others were new revelations. "David - Seeking a Heart Like His" was probably one of the most inspiring books I've read and worked through to date. I definitely recommend this book to everyone... Whether you are a non believer who is curious, a new believer seeking to learn, or a seasoned Christian, this book can and will touch you in ways you never imagined possible! Don't hesitate!!!!
Beth Moore does it again with this study on David's journey & heart & how it mirrors our own with the ups, and downs,. She weaves from the start with Samuel & Saul to David's anointing & insights. She takes us through his journey of preparation along the way to becoming King. As I wrap up Week 2, I love reflecting on the covenant God has with us and how it is mirrored in Jonathan's and David's friendship.
Great for you if you are a woman seeking to have a heart like His and learn from David's journey, and your own.
I did this study with the videos in our community Bible study. It was done well and concentrated on the personal side of David, his life from shepherd to king, to love, to family and his neglect of parenting his children and the horrible results. It also covered his relationship with God. Even when you were ready to be disappointed in David, Beth drew us back to his heart towards God, which made him more relatable to us and our own walks with God.
